Sorry for posting on here Blush.
Has anyone’s dc joined the sea cadets ? If so what was their experience? My ds has absolutely no confidence or focus. He’s very kind hearted and loved by all his friends but just doesn’t seem to be bothered about anything atm apart from video games. So wanted to give him a new experience which will benefit him in some way for the future.
TIA

And now at the end I see other Police cadets!

I've had several years involvement in the Cadet Forces &, with sadness, I wouldn't recommend the Sea Cadets, (The Royal Marine Cadets element is however a different matter !) . Whilst all volunteers are stars & the most determinant thing is the Commanding Officer & their staff, the Sea Cadets is differently funded, a far smaller org nationally & the training programme is comparatively uninspiring, out of date and provides little in terms of meaningful skills & education in today's world. It's numbers and average age has also dropped considerably which has resulted in older teen cadets leaving in droves. By far the best org for young people in terms of varying opportunities, training, and standards is the RAF Air Cadets. Check out each of what will probably be several squadrons within your traveling distance. The Army Cadets tend to focus on, and appeal more, to Field Craft based activities. But usually, due to the location and building constraints on where the detachments parade, are provided on one of the several camps that take place each year ie not so much is done on a week by week basis locally. I appreciate this is a massive generalisation but one made with an experienced view across all three and I hope of some use to you.

Well both my children go to sea cadets.

Littlemissrain - what a sweeping generalisation. Garbage.

My girls love it. They have passed their RYA sailing and windsurfing quals, row most weekends. First Aid quals. Sewing, boatmanship etc.
They do do parade. Were part of the rememberence sunday services. They learn cooking, they camp. They do so much i cant do it justice. But yes they are taught drill and manners and discipline. And they are expected to behave. Personally i have absolutely no issue with that at all.

They love it. They have fun.

OP My advice send your son along for a couple of sessions and see how he gets on.
