DH embarrassed by my sensitivity

MarysLittleLamb · 26/02/2018 12:52

I get very moved by certain types of art and music, so much so that I occasionally cry. Last year we went to the Louvre and I ended up silently weeping at a number of art works. When we got out of the gallery DH admitted that he finds it all a bit over the top and unnecessary - as if I do it on purpose!

Anyway we've just got back from Rome. I became a little overwhelmed in the coliseum when I thought about the violence and death that had taken place there. DH said I was the only one in the entire place crying and he was fed up with it. I explained that I don't do it on purpose, it just gets to me.

We went to the Sistine Chappell the day after and I ended up screaming at the MichaelAngelo. A number of tourists tried to console me but DH just walked off muttering "for fucks sake". I felt so stupid. When we got out DH had a massive rant at me about how I spoil everything for him and he often wishes he was with someone normal who could visit places without making a scene. He also declared that he no longer enjoys travelling with me. I'm gutted because travel is the main thing we do together. AIBU to think I can't change who I am or should I??

I LOVE this thread and am so glad it has been resurrected. When I feel blue, this thread is one of my favourite memories.

VintageFur I want to know what happens when the pebble eaters need a dump- do the pebbles pass through the intestines painlessly? Or are the sewers in Rome clogged with pebbledashed poos?

VintageFur · 28/10/2018 10:16

lacarmentica I'm picturing a pebble stuck in the sole of someone's Timberland boots which they finally pick out at the attraction. The boot wearer having originated from Stoke and picked up said pebble in the Asda carpark.

Points at tummy Berlin wall. Taj Mahal. Macchu Picchu. Ayers rock. Hanging gardens of Babylon. Eaten them all mate.

derxa · 28/10/2018 10:29

I'd forgotten about this. Thanks for resurrecting it Grin

I'm EXTREMELY sensitive when it comes to films or beautiful/sad videos, I have always been over emotional. However, to SCREAM at something is another matter and I'd be embarrassed if I were you, never mind if I was your husband

Poloshot · 28/10/2018 10:58

I don't blame your DH

@Ofthread "don't go to Jerusalem" ... you've made my morning. So funny, I had to read this to my sister- the comment made us both cry... with laughter

leaveituntiltomorrow · 28/10/2018 11:12

Oh I loved this thread. It’s made me belly laugh all over again this morning.

ConciseandNice · 28/10/2018 11:13

I haven’t admitted this before, but once I broke down (very publicly and loudly) at a Dr Who exhibition in Blackpool. My dad has to literally carry me out over his shoulder. The word ‘exterminate’ still makes me emotional now.

Phew. That feels better.

ReginaPhalangee · 28/10/2018 11:22

I didn't realise it was old and someone has already put The Scream up. Oh well.

I did cry at The Titanic exhibition in Liverpool but keep it quiet!

The first time I went to Bayreuth, I was overcome by a sense of uncontrollable grief and fury during the last act of Götterdämmerung. I vaulted over the people sitting in the seats next to me and raced down the aisle, tears streaming down my cheeks and swatting ushers left and right with my programme. Upon reaching the front of the hall, I let out a cry of "Valhalla, I am coming!" and launched myself head first into the orchestra pit. I came to on the grassy bit in front of the Festspielhaus to find Calixto Bieito standing over me. We are now firm friends and I have a standing invitation to attend all his premières.

Is that you Dr Niles Crane?

Dotty1970 · 28/10/2018 13:24

Totally attention seeking and pathetic, you would definitely be able to hold it in... I feel sorry for your DH

LoisWilkerson1 · 28/10/2018 14:58
