Stop moaning and decide what you’re going to compromise on.

Mummyoflittledragon · 26/02/2018 14:29

Maybe Phil and Kirstie can help. apply to be on location location

HateIsNotGood · 26/02/2018 14:32

You could always sell the vintage car and then hey presto! - bigger deposit and no need for off road parking.

actuallyithinkitdoes · 26/02/2018 14:33

Oh you poor dear. Remind me to weep for you tonight in my rented 2 bed up North.

Pickledonion24 · 26/02/2018 14:34

Ok maybe you can all find a house for 190 with a everything you want. Yes I don’t mind work but we can’t afford to go over our budget some of it was inheritance. I’ve got a condition so have had to find some easy work that I can manage partners income is good but couldn’t support us both

Stealth boast post of the day award here.

gillybeanz · 26/02/2018 14:35

You could buy my house outright for that kind of money.
it's a huge 4 bedroom semi edwardian, with kitchen diner, lounge, other reception room, conservatory, cloakroom.
Hall, stairs, landing largeish family bathroom.
We are NW, greater Manc/east Lancs

Bakedappleflavour · 26/02/2018 14:36

Oh don't be so daft, we bought last year for 350k. 2 bedroom flat, nice little leafy part of London. That'd get you a house in Bedfordshire, some parts of Hertfordshire, Bishop's Stortford.

Seriously, get a grip!!

RadioGaGoo · 26/02/2018 14:37

You are absolutely right OP. It won't go anywhere down south where you live. Life sucks.

Lilonetwo · 26/02/2018 14:37

Pleeeease tell us what area you are looking at?

sahknowme · 26/02/2018 14:43

You and your partner need better paid jobs. Problem solved.

Unihorn · 26/02/2018 14:45

I'm currently eyeing a 5 bed detached house near me in South Wales for £190k but am struggling to save for the 10% deposit required... Forgive me if we're not all sympathetic to your cause.

BoredOnMatLeave · 26/02/2018 14:47

Seriously you need to say where you are. I'm Hampshire and you can get 3 bed detached with garage and garden and parking for £350k

NearlyBabyTime · 26/02/2018 14:47

Just think though OP, you could probably buy a small fixer upper outright, or get a small mortgage, and have very minimal outgoings

It's a dream situation. Our house was 200K and we are doing it up at the moment but we "only" had a 20K deposit. We feel super lucky to be on property ladder and are about 50 mins drive from London

Mummyoflittledragon · 26/02/2018 14:48

Of course I can’t find a house with everything I want for 190k. The house I really wanted is way out of my price range, was sold about 3 years ago for £1.6mill. Another was sold around about that time for 600k but it was so fugly it needed demolishing thus was basically a building plot. Dh wouldn’t take the risk of selling up as we didn’t have the money to build. But you know what? Dh and I live in the best house we can afford.

3luckystars · 26/02/2018 14:49

The better paid jobs idea is the most helpful idea so far. I agree.

ShatnersWig · 26/02/2018 14:49

WHAT FLIPPING AREA ARE YOU SPECIFICALLY LOOKING AT?

There, maybe the OP has noticed it this time, as she seems to have missed loads of others asking it.

EmmaJR1 · 26/02/2018 14:50

Not sure how you did your mortgage calculation...

We had a £37k deposit and were offered £350k on one wage of £63k per annum.

We bought a 4 bedroom house, village location, facing the water in Kent for £315 in August...

Maybe you're looking in the wrong places?

NearlyBabyTime · 26/02/2018 14:51

Read that part is inheritance, that part of it of course isn't a dream situation and I am sorry for your loss

JoJoSM2 · 26/02/2018 14:56

Well, if you've just come into some inheritance but haven't got a clue about finances, houses, can't learn to drive, are set on off-street parking instead of just renting a garage for £25 + you really need that garden for your mum's dog, then frankly you sound completely immature and clueless.

I suggest that you get an independent financial adviser to help you with your finances. They could invest the money for you, help with pensions (have you got one set up?), that sort of thing. You don't need to use the inheritance to buy a property.

ShatnersWig · 26/02/2018 14:57

When did this vintage car turn up? In December your partner's car was falling apart and were thinking of getting a new one later this year with a loan but buying a £500 one to tide him over?

To whoever wanted houses in hospital distance... outer edge of the Notts tram area, trams straight to the hospital well in your budget.

Yep, we live within easy commuting distance of 3 large hospitals and you'd have loads of choice in the budget mentioned

thornyhousewife · 26/02/2018 15:03

I saved £201k so ner nerrr.

I didn't. I got a mortgage like a normal person.

ShatnersWig · 26/02/2018 15:05

Wonder why the OP was so reticent to only describe it as saved to begin with until challenged? For fear of being pulled apart? She had another mortgage thread in November and at that point they had "saved £150k". Which is incredibly good going at their age and bearing in mind the OP is a receptionist.
