To think this is an okay lunch for DS?

I made an easy Sunday dinner today. There was a bit too much for this evening so I've sent some leftovers for DS when my mum looks after him tomorrow whilst we're in work.

The small plate of leftovers consist of carrot + swede mash, potatoes, broccoli + leek cheese and peas. I've just spoken to my mother to let her know he's sorted for lunch tomorrow and she doesn't seem to think its an adequate lunch. When I asked her why, she couldn't actually give me a reason Confused

For context, breakfast will be Weetabix or porridge with raspberries, for lunch its the leftovers followed by some fruit + yoghurt, and dinner will be scrambled egg on toast with another portion of fruit. Plus two small snacks. He's a few days shy of 12 months.

AIBU to think its a perfectly adequate meal?

Whose, not who's

NellMangel · 25/02/2018 18:24

Yes it's perfectly adequate.

Mishappening · 25/02/2018 18:24

She's probably wondering where the roast beef is!!

A bit of protein wouldn't come amiss in there.

Whowhatwhy · 25/02/2018 18:25

It's basically a plate of reheated veg. I don't think that constitutes a meal for a one year old.

JustHereForThePooStories · 25/02/2018 18:27

YABU for giving him peas and cheese in the same meal and posting about it because now I have to google The Fast Show Cheesy Peas sketches.

It's fine. Chances are it will end up on the floor and he will eat the dog food anyway right GrinWink

It's better than the pouches and jars many kids are given at that age anyway.

Over the day it's perfectly balanced

Pengggwn · 25/02/2018 18:27

Whowhatwhy

What does it take for food to be 'a meal' in your opinion?

Camomila · 25/02/2018 18:28

Yes, and some BLW ones that were still chucking half on the floor (like my DS).

Add a thin slice/grate a bit of cheddar (for more protein) if you want but honestly its fine.

There is plenty of protein in cheese, also lots of protein in brocolli and he has protein in his other meals.
You know a child can surive and get plenty of protein without having a slice of beef every few hours dont you?

Yura · 25/02/2018 18:29

Fine (and i'm jelaous how much he eats!)

MrsDilber · 25/02/2018 18:29

He's not going to starve on that after his breakfast, sounds fab to me.

speakout · 25/02/2018 18:30

Sounds gross.

Notso · 25/02/2018 18:30

Is there any gravy would be my question Grin

CatsForgotPassword · 25/02/2018 18:31

It’s better than mine. I’m lucky if he’ll eat a biscuit and carrot stick :(

HolyShet · 25/02/2018 18:34

There's protein in vegetables!.......And eggs, bread, yoghurt, cheese and porridge.

It's a perfectly balanced, decent, varied day's diet and probably we'd all do reasonably well on it.

Shockers · 25/02/2018 18:35

There’s around 13g of protein in an egg.

Notso · 25/02/2018 18:37

I don't know why people get so worked up when a poster asks about one meal. She's not asking if this is ok to give him three times a day for the rest of his life. It's one portion of food out of his whole existence.

SpringEquinox · 25/02/2018 18:37

It looks absolutely fine for a lunch !

BuzzKillington · 25/02/2018 18:41

Sounds revolting, but not worth worrying about nutritionally. It's one meal.

pinkpickle8 · 25/02/2018 18:42

As someone with a child who is limited to 4 grams of protein a day, let me tell you there is plenty of protein in those 3 meals. It's perfectly fine and you are not depriving them of any nutrients with that. Enjoy the food you can eat, don't beat yourself up.

monkeymamma · 25/02/2018 18:44

I'm so jealous of your kid's eating - neither of mine would have had anything so healthy at 12m!

AnnieAnoniMouse · 25/02/2018 18:44

That’s perfectly fine.

However, I expect your Mum will find something else to give him tomorrow 😖😂. Bless. At least she’s not dishing out the wotsits & haribo.

monkeymamma · 25/02/2018 18:45

Do you think maybe your mum just fancied cooking him something?!

Grilledaubergines · 25/02/2018 18:46

It’s a good lunch. He doesn’t need protein with it, given that he’s having eggs for his tea.

ChristmasCakes · 25/02/2018 18:46

Yeah it's fine? Maybe a bit low in iron but I'm sure he gets plenty on other days.
