I saw someone say on the other thread jobs they wouldn't want their kids to do there are jobs they wouldn't want their kids to do so thought I would start a thread on it

For me - I wouldnt want my kids to become reality TV stars - especially big brother stars

Oh dear, my two,are doomed. One wants to,join the police, and the other a city type job.

corythatwas · 25/02/2018 17:57

Even in shelf stacking or waitressing jobs, people who make them their life time career and have any drive and energy tend not to stay at the shelf stacking all their lives

dd had been in the job for less than 2 years when they wanted her to go for manager training; she was just turned 20

most of the shelf stacking type jobs are done by temporary staff, very young staff and/or staff who need flexible/part-time hours

Moussemoose I am a model and I don't think it's demeaning (mainly commercial and some fashion). I have worked abroad, and some cities treat models better than others. But the UK is a pretty fair market for commercial models.

I occasionally get to work with my son and have done a few shoots as a family which was nice.

Online catalogue work is repetitive and hard work but it's not demeaning Smile

Ds is thinking of the fire brigade and that I am ok with. If he wants to risk his life, I will be worried, of course I will, but it is his own to risk, and at least it will be for something he will never have to be ashamed of.

Corythatwas - "something he will never have to be ashamed of."

You can say that again! I would also be worried if my dc wanted to be firefighters but I would be incredibly proud to to have a child in the fire brigade.

HairyToity · 25/02/2018 18:19

Reality TV, sex industry, anything criminal.

mirime · 25/02/2018 18:23

@DexyMidnight

We all have different priorities, and those priorities can change at different times in our life.

I like working 32 hours. I can fit it into four days, I get more time with DS and I have lots of hobbies and interests to fill up any free time I have.

More money would be nice, of course it would, but long hours in a stressful job would make me miserable.

DS may be different. What he does is up to him and I'll support him in his choices.

greathat · 25/02/2018 18:32

Dd said she wanted to be prime minister once. I said at least half the country would hate her. She changed her mind... (dream destroying mother) she was about five

sallyandherarmy · 25/02/2018 18:42

Mirime

Because of the shame!

Where I live you do not, EVER, support terrorists like JC. And if you do, you never ever admit it.

I would seriously consider going NC with anyone, in my family or friends, that was a labour supporter.

I couldn't/wouldn't want the shame.

Graphista · 25/02/2018 18:43

Corythatwas - quite right - couple of the people I went to uni with had nmw type jobs at the time with retailers, hospitality etc the companies treated them well and with their degrees AND time served and connections made "in-house" are now in managerial/exec roles within the same companies.

Anything boring or low paid would be my worry.

Bit unfair to put footballers in there. It's a talent and a skill which requires discipline and dedication. Ok, it's not an intellectual career path but neither is a professional cricketer, golfer, rugby player or any other athlete. Do you feel the same about those careers or is it just working class football.
