Can be anything

Being a football fan , obviously a footballer would be high up there

And then maybe a doctor or a lawyer

Tax specialist and orthodontist.

They want to be scientists. That would be ok. If times get tough the eldest can fall back on ski instructing while the youngest can get by on a life of stand-up comedy.

DramaAlpaca · 24/02/2018 21:31

I don't care, as long as they are happy.

UnimaginativeUsername · 24/02/2018 21:33

Whatever they’re interested in really. They’re the ones who’ll have to go to work every day. Not me.

DS1 is interested in software development. DS2 (much younger) says he wants to be a computer scientist, but that may mostly be because he thinks his big brother is awesome.

Pikehau · 24/02/2018 21:34

People who have (primary) age dcs - are their “jobs” even invented yet? I just hope they are happy - it’s what makes me get up and out in the morning to make the £ for their life and our future

UnimaginativeUsername · 24/02/2018 21:35

Well, I have to go to work too. But I chose this career. So it’s my own fault.

goldentriangle · 24/02/2018 21:35

I seriously suggested to my do we had another baby last week to raise as a plumber . It seems quicker to raise our own than persuade anyone to come and fix our shower.

Xenadog · 24/02/2018 21:36

What ever DD ends up doing is fine with with as long as she is safe and happy. I will do my utmost to deter her from teaching, however.

traumwerk · 24/02/2018 21:36

Totally agree with Queen re: learning a trade. I've spent roughly eleventy billion going to University to qualify as a teacher and then to train to be an Ed Psych and I earn significantly less than my electrician friend.

All of my three want to be YouTubers 🙄

MycatsaPirate · 24/02/2018 21:37

I remember when DD1 was little and if she ever scraped her knee and it bled she would become hysterical. She hated the sight of blood! I had no idea what she would become but clearly nothing involving blood.

She's a student paramedic.

DD2 wants to be a lifeguard/swimming teacher.

fulltimeworkingmotherof4 · 24/02/2018 21:42

Dd 16 is an apprentice health care scientist. Then wants to do a nursing degree. She wasn’t academic so am super proud she’s found something she loves.
Dd 9 wants to be a solicitor
Dd8 wants to play rugby for England women. She said if that doesn’t work out she’ll be a firefighter!

mamaryllis · 24/02/2018 21:42

Scone, that's what I have told mine. Worst case, you can be a ski instructor. I've got 2 out of 3 trained as lifeguards, which is better paying, in the hope they can help support themselves through bloody university.
Currently they are wanting to be a synthetic biologist, a maths teacher (who also runs the drama club and is the basketball coach - extremely specific) and either a physicist or psychologist. Syn Bio kid has wanted this for six years, so reasonably confident, maths kid is a flake and is looking for the easiest option, and psych/ phys kid should really be a lawyer.
Apparently my job is to just keep on forking out the cashola until they sort it out though...

EnthusiasmIsDisturbed · 24/02/2018 21:44

Doctor

Sadly ds isn’t interested as they do not earn a lot of money Hmm

Taffeta · 24/02/2018 21:45

DS(14) wants to do something that earns him lots of money and that he loves. He’s very persuasive, determined and highly competitive, who knows what he will do?

DD(11) wants to make a difference and right wrongs. Hopefully earning enough to live at the same time Grin

overskyandshire · 24/02/2018 21:46

Be ordinary people who live ordinary lives.

rosy71 · 24/02/2018 21:47

Atm ds1 wants to be a train driver & ds2, a PE teacher. I'd be happy if they did that.

Taffeta · 24/02/2018 21:48

All those dissing footballing - DS is a trained football referee and earning easy fun money every weekend at it. And as pp said, a great portable skill for uni weekends etc

Legwarmersareohsoeighties · 24/02/2018 21:50

DS has wanted to be in the raf since he was tiny! I'm happy with pilot, but raf is a bit 'fighty' for me (I'm a bit of a passivist!) still - I know how much he wants it, so if he achieves it I'll b v v v happy for him :)

BonnieF · 24/02/2018 21:52

A job which cannot realistically be rendered obsolete by AI technology, eg hairdresser, surgeon, plumber, physiotherapist, gardener, nurse.

Legwarmersareohsoeighties · 24/02/2018 21:53

Ps DS2 wants to be a thunderbird! I'd be happy with that!!!! Wink (still a bit aggressive though! Why don't they want to be something a bit calmer!!)

StealthPolarBear · 24/02/2018 21:57

Ds wants to be a professional you tuber. Ugh. Thankfully he's only ten

SleepyHeadThisTime · 24/02/2018 21:59

DS1wants to drive a bin lorry Grin DH says no way but he can drive diggers (DS1's second choice). I want them to have jobs they're happy with and that will see them content in themselves.

Appuskidu · 24/02/2018 22:02

Anything except teaching.

BrazzleDazzleDay · 24/02/2018 22:02

I really couldn't care what my dc choose to do, cleaning toilets, ceo whatever makes them happy. I myself would never do a job I didn't enjoy so I won't ever pressure my kids into doing something they wouldn't.

Sometimes when I read on here the pressure parents put on their dc with exams/uni, it makes me feel really uncomfortable.

SmileAndNod · 24/02/2018 22:05

I'd like dc1 to be a barrister because he's bloody good at putting forward an argument and has a way with words. Id like dc 2 to be a midwife as she's caring and empathetic and incredibly practical and a strong lady to boot and I realised too late this is the job I would have liked and dc3 I'd like her to be a doctor or a vet. She's only 4 and really would rather be a unicorn.

But honestly I don't really care. I want them to be happy and to have choices and earn enough so that they can have a choice about things such as where they live, what they can do on a weekend etc. I just don't want them to struggle and bugger up their life like I have.

doze931 · 24/02/2018 22:05

Ds1 (7)wants to be a farmer and no we dont live anywhere near a farm and he doesnt like dirt lol. Ds2 (5) wants to work at the youth club tuck shop
