This is written on a poster on the wall at work. I think it's a rubbish message.

Crap message unless you work for a hula hoop company.

Jumping through hoops is what “trained” circus animals do. They do it because their “trainer” hits them when they don’t. Jumping though hoops means you have no backbone or sense of self-worth.

Thatbloodydog · 24/02/2018 12:07

I always thought it meant going above and beyond to get things done... or dealing with tricky people/situations to get to the end result.

Whatever, it's rubbish on a poster!

Glumglowworm · 24/02/2018 12:23

Jumping through hoops to me means fairly meaningless barriers that people have to jump through to progress their career

letsdolunch321 · 24/02/2018 12:28

What a load of Sh*t

Summercat · 24/02/2018 12:29

Ah, don't ya just love workplace bollocks? Grin

What grates on me at my work is 'TEAM WORK MAKE THE DREAM WORK.' Hmm

Thing is, the managers want people to be a TEAM as long it suits THEM. When opportunities come up to gain anything - vouchers and freebies etc, they keep them to themselves.

I take my Health and Safety training seriously: absolutely no hoops in my office.

newcarsmell · 24/02/2018 13:16

Just write underneath it 'you're an idiot'.

VladmirsPoutine · 24/02/2018 13:18

There's a special place in hell reserved for workplace bullshit.

A better poster would say: 'Bills don't pay themselves, it would appear, thus here I am'.

ScreamingValenta · 24/02/2018 13:18

If someone has to 'jump through hoops' to get things done in their workplace, it usually means the technology, administration and infrastructure is crap Grin.

furrymuff · 24/02/2018 13:21

This is the poster I have up at work Grin

smurfy2015 · 24/02/2018 13:24

Do you make basketball related items or a certain round crisp which is very tasty? (totally misses point)

troodiedoo · 24/02/2018 13:28

Dare you to write "You don't have to be a clown to work here, but it helps" underneath

pineapple70 · 24/02/2018 13:31

no, unfortunately I dare not Sad

Management had some arty photo posters done showing "interpretations" of our work. One was so arty they hung upside down (and it had people on it so bit of a clue which way up). It seemed like a metaphor for work.

onewhitewhisker · 24/02/2018 18:34

that's proper daft. 'i overcome barriers..' or something, wanky but maybe. jumping through hoops is usually used to mean the workplace sticks in unnecessary bureaucratic crap which makes things harder... so as screamingvalenta says, the company's basically insulting itself.

PhelanThePain · 24/02/2018 18:36

It sounds like one of those questions on online job applications where you have to select strongly disagree, disagree, not sure, agree, strongly agree Grin

DalekDalekDalek · 24/02/2018 18:41

My work had loads of photos taken of the place when it was tidy showing what it "should look like". The photos were taken while the place was empty of staff so I took that as gospel and haven't been in since.

The phrase ‘jumping through hoops’ has negative connotations for me - unnecessary things put in your way to prevent you from doing what you want. Not really the type of message that motives. Like pp said ‘overcoming barriers’ is more motivational.
