So Sunday had some family and friends over for lunch, like an afternoon tea style. A coat was left at the end of the day, wasn't sure who's coat it was and as there was about 30 people here I thought I would wait for a message to say "hi have I left my coat at yours?". So said message came about an hour later. It was my cousin. Arranged to come and collect it the next day, then she said this "oh I thought you would have at least washed it?".

Am I being unreasonable in thinking why the hell would I wash somebody's coat unless I had borrowed it and worn it?

EH? Did something get spilled on it and she assumed you knew?

LouJDawe · 22/02/2018 10:59

This is exactly what I thought!! She stood there waiting for an answer and all I said was oh sorry I didn't have time!

No nothing as soon as everyone left I just put it in the spare room hung on a hanger!

Weird. Many coats need to be dry cleaned anyway? And have gubbins in all the pockets.

Chocolatesaveslives · 22/02/2018 11:02

What?!!

I need to know how often does she wash her coats? I wouldn't even wash her jumper if it was that which she had left, a t shirt maybe but that's it.

PhelanThePain · 22/02/2018 11:03

She must have been joking. I can’t believe you apologised! 😂

LouJDawe · 22/02/2018 11:04

So pleased it wasn't just me that found this strange! I Have only ever washed something of somebody else's if I have borrowed it. Just wasn't sure if it was coat etiquette lol

TheDailyMailIsADisgustingRag · 22/02/2018 11:04

Eh? Yanbu. Expecting someone to wash your clothes for you (and who washes coats anyway?) is really strange, unless you’d borrowed it to wear or something. To then say “I thought you’d at least have washed it”, is blatant cheeky fuckery.

LouJDawe · 22/02/2018 11:04

I just didn't know how to respond I thought she was joking but she stood there with a dead straight face lol so I kind of panic apologised!

AnyUsernameWillDo75 · 22/02/2018 11:05

That's so weird lol why would you wash it? I never wash anything anyone leaves behind by mistake, only if I've borrowed it or it's been stained/dirty in my house.

TheDailyMailIsADisgustingRag · 22/02/2018 11:06

I’d probably have done the same op, but then been annoyed later that I didn’t tell her to do one. At least she’s shown you that she’s a cheeky fucker now, so you’ll be ready for her next time Grin!

StickThatInYourPipe · 22/02/2018 11:06

Are you sure she wasn’t joking? I don’t appreciate this style of humour but know a few people who use it often.

LouJDawe · 22/02/2018 11:08

It was only when I asked my partner when he came home if I should have washed it. He just laughed and said how cheeky! But I didn't know if he was just taking my side because he thinks she is generally weird lol wanted outsiders views!

TheDailyMailIsADisgustingRag · 22/02/2018 11:08

Oh I hate those kinds of ‘jokes’ too @stick. Some people can pull of dry banter. Others you just can’t tell if they’re serious or not and it’s just really awkward. I play them at their own game if someone does it to me now.

fuzzywuzzy · 22/02/2018 11:09

Does she have form for leaving articles of clothing at peoples houses and expecting them to be laundered?

She sounds bonkers.

LouJDawe · 22/02/2018 11:10

Oh no she has zero humour and is a Serious Sally! Honestly it was like I had completely offended her by not washing it

OP posts:
OutyMcOutface · 22/02/2018 11:10

Do you think she was trying to use you as a laundry service? If I had left something in someone else's house (especially something like a coat/jumper) and they washed it I would actually be really annoyed-it cold gave easily been ruined.

PaperdollCartoon · 22/02/2018 11:11

I don’t think I’ve ever washed a coat...

MyKingdomForBrie · 22/02/2018 11:12

I would have laughed and said ‘Washed your coat? Why??’

Would have been interesting to hear her answer.

LouJDawe · 22/02/2018 11:14

In hindsight I wish I did say that! So glad it wasn't just me that found it strange 😂

OP posts:
ScreamingValenta · 22/02/2018 11:17

I've never washed a coat in my life, beyond wiping off the odd spillage! I have them in the 'dry clean only' bracket.

CSIFemale · 22/02/2018 11:18

Are you sure he wasn't joking? I can't imagine this being said seriously!

YANU!

LouJDawe · 22/02/2018 11:18

Maybe we should all take our coats to my cousin's as she seems to be the only person who does wash coats!! I've certainly never washed any lol
