WIBU to tell this tourist to pick up their dogs shit?

Pic included so you can understand the kind of house I'm discussing. We both have the same layout verandah. Traditional high set Queenslander style.
I live in an area that caters to some tourists.
Someone has "moved in" next door (for a month long holiday) they've been there a week.

The houses verandahs are equal in height (relevant) and reasonably near each other. I could easily touch their verandah with a sweeping brush from mine.
They have a dog with them.
They're keeping it on the verandah because "the landlord won't allow him inside" (alright fair enough, don't see why they didn't get a pet friendly property but whatever.)
But it stinks. Really, really stinks. It was worse a couple days back in the heat and humidity because it made the smell all the more prominent. I have not seen them clean it once and now 1/4 of the verandah is just covered in shit.
I literally cannot use my verandah right now because everytime I so much as open the door the smell wafts straight into my house.

I've tried saying something to them but I don't think they understood (language barrier).
So wibu to have a strong word about it and try to be more clear (and try to make sure they 100% get it) and if it still doesn't stop call the landlords? I know them (a married couple) reasonably well.

My Dh is in disagreement as he thinks that this would ruin their holiday and for the sake of 3 weeks we should just put up with it... I don't think so! I know the LL's do regular drive by's just to check there's no crazy parties or whatever going on but they obviously do not inspect for short term rentals.
I think I owe it to them to say something too as it's going to get horrific if it's there for another 3 weeks building up, not only for us smell wise but the Ll's could end up dealing with a maggot/fly/roach problem.

I’d call the landlord now.

Trinity66 · 21/02/2018 12:16

I would say something 100% dirty fuckers

SparklyLeprechaun · 21/02/2018 12:17

Tell the landlord directly, that's disgusting.

Avasarala · 21/02/2018 12:18

Tell the landlord. Doesn't sound like the holiday couple will clean it at all and then the landlord will be left with a disgusting mess to clean when they leave. This is probably why he doesn't allow pets inside - so he doesn't have to clean up after inconsiderate guests. He's your neighbour and neighbours should look out for each other. You've already tried to speak with them so just call the landlord since you're on good terms with them. He can poo round as a "surprise" check so they don't know it was you and won't retaliate.

averylongtimeago · 21/02/2018 12:18

Call the Ll or letting agents- they are probably breaking the terms of their lease

MerryShitmas · 21/02/2018 12:19

I do really want to say something but Dh is stopping me... dick.
So should I try to speak to them first or just ring the landlord? As I've said they do regular drive by's but that's not going to help as they won't see the verandah floor (same as you can't in the pic) unless they approach and it's unlikely they will... so I'd feel even more guilty knowing they won't know.
But then should I wreck someone's holiday (maybe the LL would ask them to leave?) instead of speaking directly to them? Maybe ask tomorrow morning (it's night here right now) and if they do nothing by lunch time ring the LL?
I reckon that's a good idea.

I agree. Bypass the holiday makers and go straight to the owner. I'd imagine they will leave four weeks worth of dog excrement behind, tbh.

StormTreader · 21/02/2018 12:22

Definitely tell the landlord, otherwise they are going to have a months-worth of dog crap to clean, and who knows if they will have time to do that right away? You might end up with the smell for 6 weeks or more by the end of it! They'll have a much smaller job to do if you tell them now.

Chickenagain · 21/02/2018 12:22

Ring the landlord. That is intolerable and as an Airbnb landlord, I would want to know.

MerryShitmas · 21/02/2018 12:25

Ok so that settles it LL is definitely getting told. Will show DH the thread. He can be so non confrontational sometimes I swear I married a doormat (I love him honest...)

shouldwestayorshouldwego · 21/02/2018 12:29

Not fair on the poor dog either. I would definitely contact the LL to raise your concerns. They are lucky to have you to keep an eye on it. If it is like that now in a month the smell will be more engrained.

JonnyUtah · 21/02/2018 12:32

Does the dog sleep out there too?

MerryShitmas · 21/02/2018 12:34

I believe so Jonny

UrsulaPandress · 21/02/2018 12:37

Definitely tell the landlord. If the ll doesn't want dogs inside I doubt they want a crap covered verandah.

Mingers.

Aprilshowerswontbelong · 21/02/2018 12:38

Unless your dh is prepared to pick it up ring ll ASAP. Poor ddog.

letsdolunch321 · 21/02/2018 12:39

Call the landlord immediately

PhelanThePain · 21/02/2018 12:41

POOR dog!! Angry who lets their dog sleep in its own shit??

Please call the landlord ASAP. Urgh. Imagine the mess they will leave if they’re there for a month. Hope LL took a good deposit.

Snowysky20009 · 21/02/2018 12:46

This is gross! Poor dog.....

Nocabbageinmyeye · 21/02/2018 12:47

Definitely call the landlord!

Where are they from? You could Google "pick up your dog shit you dirty fuckers" in their language, print it and post it in their door too Wink

ElBandito · 21/02/2018 12:50

If I were the LL I would want to know, if I was a LL and people I knew well didn’t tell me I’d be a bit upset. That will all be seeping into the wood and it could cost a bit of time and money to put right if it’s left too long. Poor dog Sad .

Judashascomeintosomemoney · 21/02/2018 12:51

I’d be livid if I was the landlord and someone was leaving dog poo all over my verandah, it will probably stain it too. Ewww.

Minisoksmakehardwork · 21/02/2018 12:51

Definitely call the landlord. If they're not cleaning up mess each day, chances are it will still be there when the holiday makers have gone and then it won't just be a month you have to put up with it.

Pastaagain78 · 21/02/2018 12:52

That’s disgusting: call the landlord.

Pikehau · 21/02/2018 12:52

Gosh yes call the landlord. That’s absolutely vile.

Clandestino · 21/02/2018 12:53

Totally gross!!! Landlord should be contacted. Tell DH to cop on.
