WIBU to tell this tourist to pick up their dogs shit?

Pic included so you can understand the kind of house I'm discussing. We both have the same layout verandah. Traditional high set Queenslander style.
I live in an area that caters to some tourists.
Someone has "moved in" next door (for a month long holiday) they've been there a week.

The houses verandahs are equal in height (relevant) and reasonably near each other. I could easily touch their verandah with a sweeping brush from mine.
They have a dog with them.
They're keeping it on the verandah because "the landlord won't allow him inside" (alright fair enough, don't see why they didn't get a pet friendly property but whatever.)
But it stinks. Really, really stinks. It was worse a couple days back in the heat and humidity because it made the smell all the more prominent. I have not seen them clean it once and now 1/4 of the verandah is just covered in shit.
I literally cannot use my verandah right now because everytime I so much as open the door the smell wafts straight into my house.

I've tried saying something to them but I don't think they understood (language barrier).
So wibu to have a strong word about it and try to be more clear (and try to make sure they 100% get it) and if it still doesn't stop call the landlords? I know them (a married couple) reasonably well.

My Dh is in disagreement as he thinks that this would ruin their holiday and for the sake of 3 weeks we should just put up with it... I don't think so! I know the LL's do regular drive by's just to check there's no crazy parties or whatever going on but they obviously do not inspect for short term rentals.
I think I owe it to them to say something too as it's going to get horrific if it's there for another 3 weeks building up, not only for us smell wise but the Ll's could end up dealing with a maggot/fly/roach problem.

I can bet you the poor dog is being kept out there because the landlord has no idea it’s there. You know they have no intention of cleaning it when you go, OP, don’t you? No one is going to leave dog shit for a month and then clear it up just before they leave. It will destroy the veranda and the landlord will wonder why you didn’t say something sooner. How does your dh feel about that?

BTY, he won’t LET you. Fuck that! He married you, he didn’t take ownership of you.

Clandestino · 21/02/2018 12:56

Btw, even if they leave, the shit will still be there.

PositivelyPERF · 21/02/2018 13:00

Op’s Husband, if you’re reading this, do you realise flys will lay eggs in that shit and you will have hundreds, if not thousands of flys. Also, are you seriously showing more consideration towards strangers, than towards your wife. At least she’ll have a good place to bury the body, when she loses it by the end of the month! 😡💩

ForgivenessIsDivine · 21/02/2018 13:00

Did anyone say 'call the landlord?'

PositivelyPERF · 21/02/2018 13:01

Did anyone say 'call the landlord? oh, that’s a good idea. HEY OP! CALL THE LANDLORD! 😁

Bramble71 · 21/02/2018 13:02

I think you'd be quite reasonable to pick up some of the crap, wrap it up a bit and put it through their letterbox! Dirty b&$£ers! I love the Google translate idea, too!

Do you know the owners of the house? If so, tell them. If not, try the above. Ugh!

SofieMonde · 21/02/2018 13:03

You can always use Google translate for the language barrier and print off a message you can tape to said smelly verandah :) Or just use the poo emoji and stick on a nose and some flies they will soon get the message

whifflesqueak · 21/02/2018 13:11

Call the landlord and log it with 101.

Cancel the cheque while you’re at it.

milliemolliemou · 21/02/2018 13:12

OP Tell the landlord and ask what the renters should do with the poo.. Let the renters know you're telling the landlord but suggest what they should do with the poo. They must be very odd people not to smell the stuff themselves and deal with the resultant flies - I wonder what else is going on inside the house. And the LLs seem to be odd - how do you check large parties aren't going on unless you drive by every night at midnight and 0400? And like others I'm sad for the dog - do the renters walk it at all?

PositivelyPERF · 21/02/2018 13:12

Btw, they’re only pretending to not understand you. If they understood the landlord well enough to keep the dog outside and explained that to you, then they understand perfectly well when you try to tell them to pick it up. They’re arses.

AjasLipstick · 21/02/2018 13:13

You want to say something but "DH is stopping you" Confused What? Has he got his hand over your mouth?

You're an adult. He can't stop you.

HuskyMcClusky · 21/02/2018 13:14

They are frickin’ disgusting. I hope the landlord gets on it ASAP!

MerryShitmas · 21/02/2018 13:23

Of course he doesn't have a hand over my mouth Confused it was just making me question myself. That's all.
Ll's drive by 2-3 times a day. At least once after 9pm.
No point logging it with 101. The fact I live in a Queenslander should tell you I do not live in the UK.
Wink
I'd love to stuff shit through their letterbox but unfortunately there are no letterboxes or postboxes here. The post goes to the nearest post office and is collected by each resident - small town. I wouldn't do that to poor Doreen from the PO Grin

I will contact landlords in the morning.

SofieMonde · 21/02/2018 13:41

Logging it....sorry :)

agedknees · 21/02/2018 14:01

Yanbu. I love your house by the way.

I lived in Australia, and I can imagine the smell. Please, please contact the landlord now.

Avasarala · 21/02/2018 14:08

Ha! I didn't even notice I'd done that!!
POP! Pop round!!! I shouldn't be allowed near a phone!

LexieLulu · 21/02/2018 16:37

Defo tell LL, imagine holidaymakers leaving the shit when they go home?

JonnyUtah · 21/02/2018 20:13

If they drive by 3 times a day I reckon they are very "hands on" as a landlord and would appreciate being told about Shit Central. Plus the fact its cruel on the dog.

MyKingdomForBrie · 21/02/2018 20:18

I wouldn’t give a flying fuck about their holiday what kind of disgusting people do that? Their poor dog.

PurpleStarInCashmereSky · 22/02/2018 13:43

Did you speak to the landlord OP?

MerryShitmas · 22/02/2018 13:50

PurpleStarInCashmereSky
I did.
Next door have left now...

OP posts:
PositivelyPERF · 22/02/2018 13:52

Left or got told to leave? What did the landlord say?

doodledoods · 22/02/2018 13:59

Poor doggy :(

CiderwithBuda · 22/02/2018 14:04

Bet the landlords were pleased you contacted them.

Who does that? Surely they must have been able to smell it too? Just image the state of their home. Yuck.
