Walked up to the counter and the women smiles at me and beckons me over and asks how I am.

Woman looking at something on the shelf next to the till turns around and dumps an item ready to pay, I was literally about to place my basket on the till.

Woman serving then turns to me and asks me to wait. Aibu to think she should have served me first?

She was rude as fuck. What you need to do is cover your face in camouflage makeup, track her down, fashion a weapon out of some strong and tinfoil -A-team style and take her down.

I don’t know where the rest of mumsnet come from but if someone pushes in front of me in a queue and hasn’t even attempted to queue it fucks me off. You must all be tolerant people

Tbh YANBU op because I would have been secretly seething about it (as a British woman, queue jumpers are obviously one of my most hated creatures)

I think this situation is very much like polo. First come first served. If she beat you to it making physical contact with the till then she claimed priority of service.
Perhaps the cashier was dim didn't know you intended to pay immediately?

Seems to me that quite often Mumsnet posters only want to listen to people who agree with them. Very trivial post. First world problem - move very swiftly on....

YANBU, if the assistant beckons you over she should have served you. However, there are some people who don't understand how small supermarkets work.

At our village stores there'd sometimes be a customer (disorganised, pyjamas peeping below coat) who'd pick up in item as though to pay, place on counter, the assistant would start the sale on the till, then the customer waltzed off to the other end of the shop to get a few more items, with furrowed brow, etc. The assistant couldn't use both tills at once and other customers had to wait while flighty Miss got her backside in order. Eventually they saw her coming and would serve others and then ask her if that was all so they didn't fall into that trap again.
