Yep. Total rip off from the other thread but I need some suggestions.

Mine are Captain Correllis Mandoline (I was gutted at how awful the film was) and On Green Dolphin Street (oh the end!).

The Time Travellers Wife.

The film is absolutely shit but I've read the book over and over

I haven't read Lightning in years * @Bunny!* Back when Koontz was actually good. What the hell happened to his writing?

My favourites are The Stand, Clan of the Cave Bear and all the Dark Tower books. I'm by no means highbrow Grin

Ooh so many!

The Book Thief
The Once and Future King - I fell in love with it as a teenager and absolutely sobbed at the end
Testament of Youth - ditto
The Jasper Ffoord Thursday Next series - so, so clever. I think I've read the whole series three times
Behind the Scenes at the Museum

The Crow road. Iain Banks

Crunchymum · 18/02/2018 17:17

Nineteen Eighty Four. Hands down best book I have ever, ever read.

Makes me want to weep that some people I work with haven't even heard of it.

Middlemarch by George Elliot.

It’s true genius. One of the first books ever written about what it’s like to be truly alive.

There are so many great books out there and so many that I love, but Middlemarch is truly wonderful.

I think I’ve read it 7 times now and cried every time.

The color purple, the film is my favourite film too.

LakieLady · 18/02/2018 18:40

I find it easier to pick my favourite writers than favourite books. Ian McEwan, Anne Tyler, Thomas Hardy, Lionel Shriver, Rose Tremain and Helen Dunmore.

If I had to pick just one from each, it would probably be, in order, Saturday, The Accidental Tourist, The Woodlanders, So Much for That, Restoration and for Helen Dunmore, her last novel, Birdcage Walk.

I also love Jane Smiley, especially A Thousand Acres.

Branleuse · 18/02/2018 19:01

Haruki Murakami - Kafka on the shore

Ready Player One by Ernest Cline. It's just brilliant. I've listened to the audiobook, read by Wil Wheaton countless times and just love it.
