I am going to be paying £50 a month. The trip is 4.8 miles. I'm wondering if I should get a bike though doubt I'd be fit enough and would drop down dead before I reached work.

Just curious.

Used to pay £320 a month on a two hour commute part time. Recently changed to a 10 minute walk and a pay cut. Very happy!

falsepriest · 17/02/2018 16:25

£0. 25km round-trip. Hooray for a bicycle.

biscuitbasket · 17/02/2018 16:26

3 miles each way. Run it 2-3 times a week, cycle the others. Cost is around £5 a week in additional chocolate

TheyBuiltThePyramids · 17/02/2018 16:26

Zero - my employer pays for it. Otherwise it would be about 50 per month I think.

diymania · 17/02/2018 16:27

£140 a month for 1h 15min commute.

Mumoftwoyoungkids · 17/02/2018 16:27

Nothing! (Well I guess the cost of charging my bike lights if I am being accurate.)

Bicycles are wonderful things!

IHaveBrilloHair · 17/02/2018 16:28

£80 a month to get Dd to school, 40 minute commute.
I don't work, (disabilities).

cardibach · 17/02/2018 16:33

I live in a place with diabolical public transport, so I commuted by car. It used to be a 100 mile round trip on rural roads, and cost about £200 per month. I ‘now live in at work and my commute is about 6 steps and costs nothing.

HunterHearstHelmsley · 17/02/2018 16:35

£70 a month. 13 miles (each way) on the train daily.

DearTeddyRobinson · 17/02/2018 16:37

£153 per month. Zone 1-3 travel card Sad

TroubledTribble28 · 17/02/2018 16:40

£45.00 a month for a two minute (timed it) two stop train journey four times a week Angry

Sandsnake · 17/02/2018 16:44

£3700 per year for an annual train pass. I only work four days so don’t like to think about how much it works out at per day! Shock. It’s about 33 miles each way, though doesn’t include underground.

FuzzyCustard · 17/02/2018 16:44

I was made redundant but before that happened I paid £400 a month for a 48 mile train journey. I also walked 7 miles a day as I couldn't afford the extra for the tube/bus.

CherryPie13 · 17/02/2018 16:48

£50 on bus fares per month. I have thought about cycling and it would be about 25 minutes per journey. Perhaps when the better weather arrives!

londonloves · 17/02/2018 16:49

£9.80 per day to go to other side of London. Only two days a week so might be less on a weekly travel card. Used to pay £21 a day to commute to outside London. It sucks how expensive it is and often shit service on regional trains. TFL services are better but still loads of money.

daisypond · 17/02/2018 16:56

£153.60 a month - zone 1- 3 travelcard -
one and a half hour commute each way.

SciFiFan2015 · 17/02/2018 16:56

About £50 per month. I only work 3 days a week. When I time it I can do door to door commute in 15/20 minutes.
I could cycle but would take an hour on way in and 45 minutes on way home (uphill versus downhill)

SurferRona · 17/02/2018 16:57

Roughly £4800 annual season ticket train, £60 per month bus fares on top. Nearly makes me cry handing that lot over to SWR each year Angry

MrsJoshDun · 17/02/2018 16:58

£16.80 a day train.

I refuse to pay a further £2 for a bus the other end and bike.

SweetSummerchild · 17/02/2018 16:59

£0. My commute was 3 miles each way and I had a bus pass due to being unable to drive for medical reasons.

I used to cycle, however, as I’m a thoroughly anti-social person and hated having to share a bus with the general public.

MrsJoshDun · 17/02/2018 17:01

My bike part is 1.6 miles each way. I wouldn’t recommend biking 4.8 miles each way every day.

I used to choose to bike 8 miles to a previous job and that was nice when I chose to do it and the weather was good.

Current bike riding is not so much fun as I have to do it every day, in torrential rain, snow, 60mph winds. It’s hilly, I’m a bit sweaty when I get to work and no time to shower.

londonrach · 17/02/2018 17:02

Dh pays £10.20 per day

I paid £10.20 and £8.90 per day till i had dd. Two trains and cheaper to break the ticket

DuchessMinnie · 17/02/2018 17:06

£5,150 a year plus £1,200 parking at the station :( I have to buy both tomorrow.

franzen · 17/02/2018 17:06

£550 a month for dh, train. Fortunately mine is £0.

FruitCider · 17/02/2018 17:07

£20 per week fuel for school runs and work commutes. I've got business miles away which cost an additional £10-£15 a week but I can claim expenses for those!
