I am going to be paying £50 a month. The trip is 4.8 miles. I'm wondering if I should get a bike though doubt I'd be fit enough and would drop down dead before I reached work.

Just curious.

£0 - I walk DD to school then walk 2 miles to work

ClicksArse · 17/02/2018 20:09

Up until last month I was spending £185 per month for a 15 minute train trip each way. I've just changed jobs to one in my home town and was able to take a pay cut as I can now walk to work.

Electric bikes are great. You still peddle but they take the edge off hills and can give you a boost when you start getting tired.

ohnonotanothernewbie · 17/02/2018 20:14

£3.00 per day if I get 2 buses, or £3.60 if I get the tube. Takes about 45 minutes there and an hour home on the buses, or about an hour each way on the tube. As the crow flies, it's about 6 miles

amusedbush · 17/02/2018 20:14

£57 a month for a seven minute train journey (three stops).

Salene · 17/02/2018 20:18

7 mile drive then £9.40 for a return on train for a 25 minute journey

So if say I’m about £14 a day including in fuel for car

coffeeclouds · 17/02/2018 20:20

£98 a month for a ten mile train journey

Sparklesocks · 17/02/2018 22:57

£225 p/m zone 1-5 travel card - I live in London suburbs Confused

allegretto · 17/02/2018 23:03

About £10 a month - subsidised bus ticket.

puglife15 · 17/02/2018 23:12

£0 - it's a 40 min walk.

DH pays about £240 a month in petrol which works out at about £12 a day.

Seren85 · 17/02/2018 23:13

£8 per day for the train which is approx 25 mins. I WFH two days so it isn't work buying a season ticket. It used to £110 per month. DH drives to work due to a lack of public transport to suit his shifts and probably spends £40 per month on petrol but has free parking at work.

moofolk · 17/02/2018 23:16

Get a bike! 4.5 miles is a reasonable distance; obviously it depends on your fitness and confidence levels but practice and see how you go.

dantdmistedious · 17/02/2018 23:19

£220.

thisismadness77 · 17/02/2018 23:21

£45 month for train, 15 min drive to station and £8 a day to park!

ChanandlerBongsNeighbour · 17/02/2018 23:22

Used to pay £21.50 a week on bus pass for myself and oldest child to go to work/school, wasn't looking forward to DC2 coming of age to require a pass too! Have now relocated and live a 20/25 minute walk from school/work so it's free!!

TOADfan · 17/02/2018 23:27

About the same as yourself OP. £47 a month and its for 5 miles each way.
I now drive twice a week and its free to park those days but only when im not leaving at rush hour. Cant deal with traffic. I actually like getting the bus because i get to snooze a little..does add an extra 30 mimutes onto my journey over driving though.
