to ask how often you get cat poo in your garden?

just that really.

we dont have pets, yet 3 or 4 times each and every week, i find myself picking it up before letting the children out to play.

how many cat poos do you get per week or it is just me who has this issue?

what do cat owners think their cats do if no indoor litter tray?

do they ever have to pick it up from their garden or do cats tend to mark territory in neighbouring gardens?

how do i solve this problem ( i cant have my own cat or dog mark their own terratory)?

What will deter cats from leaving their waste in my garden?

I haven't started this thread to cause a fight or offend but looking for anecdotal evidence and practical solutions.

Thanks.

Snash maybe you could offer to clear it up for your NDN?

I have offered this previously but he laughed and said no!

gillybeanz · 19/02/2018 11:02

I started to put all manner of horrible stuff down, and some poison.
They don't come in anymore.
Find something that makes them very sick, find the owner and stick the shit on their doorstep for when they come out.

Chocolatesaveslives · 19/02/2018 11:29

No cat poo but definitely fox poo, I watch them do it, regularly too.

Nothing I can do about it so I don't get too het up about the matter.

Mulberry72 · 19/02/2018 12:01

I have four cats, we have a litter tray but they also go outside too.

I’ve told all of my neighbours if they catch any of my cats pooing in their gardens, come and tell me and I will come and remove it. I’ve been and done it quite a few times, I view it like picking up after a dog.

bastardlyandmutley · 19/02/2018 12:31

All the time. One of my dogs eats it and then he has a couple of days with an upset tummy which is a total bloody nuisance. That said it's nobody's fault and I don't get too bent out of shape over it. I am actually quite fond of one or two of the cats that come in the garden.

I really hope you are joking about poison gillybeanz.

theEagleIsLost · 19/02/2018 12:41

if you have an outdoor tap - water scarecrows but look around have seen them as cheap as £15.

If not Wilkinson dog and cat repellent - £3 a bag smells of garlic and has always seemed to work.

Other things - green gel that smell of citrus and small rods that do the same.

Lion poo is useless IME as are the sonic alarms things.

You do have to make sure that you clean thoughly - as any lingering smell means you'll get more in similar spots.

We used to have loads of issues as we were only people without a dog or a cat in the entire street with our first bought house. With young children it was very annoying and constant.

I actually like cats – if fact waiting to see if some people we know will have some unwanted kittens we can become cat owners.

Buxtonstill · 19/02/2018 13:25

Get a male to pee in a bottle and sprinkle it over the garden, especially where you think the cats enter ( or Dh will go for a wee when its dark) you only have to do it every so often, i.e after it rains, and you cant smell it , but it deters the cats (and foxes) from our garden.

PanGalaticGargleBlaster · 19/02/2018 13:29

My garden used to be the neighbourhood litter tray until I got a super soaker and started blasting the moggies. Took a campaign lasting several weeks for word to get out to the feline community that my garden was a no shit zone.

drigon · 19/02/2018 13:47

Yes, I have an indoor cat, but 2 or 3 little monsters do it on our drive in the parts with small bits of slate. Never caught them at it, though! Will try the wilko deterrent again.

Tobythecat · 19/02/2018 13:53

gillybeanz if you are being serious, you're a fucking disgusting human being.

gillybeanz · 19/02/2018 13:57

toby
We have all manner of rodents, if people want pets they should look after them and not encourage them to shit in other peoples garden.
I think they are disgusting humans tbh, and so selfish.
Human lives are more important than animals and no way would I allow inconsiderate pet owners to endanger the life of humans.
I don't use anything illegal.

KurriKurri · 19/02/2018 14:04

I live in an all female household - is female pee of no use? I would happily pee in the garden if it would keep the cats away !

snash12 · 19/02/2018 14:09

@gilly

We have all manner of rodents, if people want pets they should look after them and not encourage them to shit in other peoples garden.

I doubt any cat owners ENCOURAGE their cats to shit in other peoples gardens. If you know anything about cats, you'd know they do pretty much whatever they like.

Human lives are more important than animals and no way would I allow inconsiderate pet owners to endanger the life of humans.

Maybe teach any humans you know not to eat shit?!

AdoraBell · 19/02/2018 14:11

Never, because we have dogs.

I heard someone on the radio, yonks ago, saying that citrus peel, any citrus fruit, with a few drops of eucalyptus oil puts the cats off. This person was from the cat protection league and said it doesn’t harm them.

Rainatnight · 19/02/2018 14:22

I feel your pain. Our NDN's can shits in our garden all the time to the point that I think I'm going to have to get our soil changed before I let toddler DD out in the garden in the Spring. I get on brilliantly with our NDN, and she's so lovely that I've not wanted to make a thing out of it with her (and I don't know what she could do anyway?).

I started a similar thread on here and got the same sorts of recommendations. We got the sonar thing and it works only in the bed we stuck it in. So I guess we need more.

Prof, what are the cat nets on your fences?

gillybeanz · 19/02/2018 14:42

snash
Which means if people try to domesticate an animal that will do pretty much what they like, they are either idiots or iresponsible to encourage their pets to shit in others garden, putting children in danger.
If you want a cat, look after it and stop it shitting in other peoples garden.
Keep it indoors, or don't have one.

Tobythecat · 19/02/2018 18:38

gillybeanz I can't believe that you are trying to justify poisoning a defenseless animal, causing it an agonizing painful death. Cats roam, it's what they do. If you poisoned my cat you'd be the sorriest person that ever lived. You should be fucking ashamed of yourself.

gillybeanz · 19/02/2018 20:25

Toby

It saves them from the chinese restaurants round here, and as I said, I don't do anything illegal.
But put my family in danger and you'd know about it, no child deserves the results of poor pet owners.
the poo is disgusting, how would you like it if my family came and shat in your garden.
I tried throwing it back into their own gardens, and nothing changed.
Now, we don't have any problems as most of our neighbours take steps to discourage them, when their owners can't be arsed.

TemporarySign · 20/02/2018 14:15

I do not advocate poisoning cats, but if you accept this - "Cats roam, its what they do" - then you are admitting that you have no control over what they do. You then have to accept that other people have every right to complain about the consequences for them.

There are far too many pet cats in Britain.
