to ask how often you get cat poo in your garden?

just that really.

we dont have pets, yet 3 or 4 times each and every week, i find myself picking it up before letting the children out to play.

how many cat poos do you get per week or it is just me who has this issue?

what do cat owners think their cats do if no indoor litter tray?

do they ever have to pick it up from their garden or do cats tend to mark territory in neighbouring gardens?

how do i solve this problem ( i cant have my own cat or dog mark their own terratory)?

What will deter cats from leaving their waste in my garden?

I haven't started this thread to cause a fight or offend but looking for anecdotal evidence and practical solutions.

Thanks.

Mine don't bury it either, I can't bear them Angry

LakieLady · 16/02/2018 17:59

Never. I have a terrier that will chase anything that moves and she has a dog flap, so can be out in the garden any time.

We don't get fox crap either, although there are loads of foxes around. They didn't mind shitting in our garden when we had the previous terrier. We think he used to encourage them, because he loved rolling in it.

RadioDorothy · 16/02/2018 18:30

Lakielady my terrier is pretty savage and will chase anything too - but she hasn't deterred the cats.

We put a dog flap in for her when we moved in so she could come and go, but she had a scare when se was just getting the hang of it and now she won't use it. In fact she's nervous of the garden fullstop.

Bloody neurotic dog and the unexpected window cleaner banging the gate....

ToadOfSadness · 16/02/2018 18:34

No cat shit here, but regular fox shit.
Fox sits and watches visiting cat, cat sits and watches fox from a safe distance. I know which one leaves a mess because of what is in it but it is a small fox so similar size poo to a cat.

Cerseilannisterinthesnow · 16/02/2018 18:44

At our old house we never had a problem for years while we were there and then all of sudden the last couple of months before we moved we started getting cat shits in the garden, new neighbour across the roads cats. I knew it was theirs as I caught it mid crap one day and i couldn’t even pick it up it was disgusting skittery poo I had to flush the garden with water, after that time I was finding them a couple of times a week and worst was finding it after it was smeared to the kids shoes, dirty effing cats

Thankfully have moved to the back end of beyond now and no cats allowed as there are sheep in lamb around here. Can deal with wild nature poops but not domestic animals

NDN applied the spiky strips along the tops of the fences which border our garden and they have netting up on the side which is beside the cat owners. I've watched the cats enjoying a good pat of the netting before hauling themselves over it and they tippy toe over the plastic spikes.
NDN used to use the high pitch sensors but they are older than us so they don't hear them, and the cats don't give a fuck either.
I think once it's springtime I will collect citrus peelings and blitz them into sprinkles and hope that works.
And the cats are too posh to dig here too, preferring to use shingle, lawn or on top of my favourite plants Sad

pigsflybackinfeb · 16/02/2018 19:27

I have a water gun on hand now if I spot a cat in the garden.

Takeoutyourhen · 16/02/2018 19:27

It really makes me hate cats and anyone who knows me still believes I'm a cat lover!

itsmeimcathyivecomehome · 16/02/2018 19:43

Can you not have cats around pregnant sheep? Dogs I understand, but cats? How would you stop them getting in the field? Do they chase the sheep like dogs can? Fascinating!!

AmIthatbloodycold · 16/02/2018 20:41

Snash maybe you could offer to clear it up for your NDN?

bullyingadvice2017 · 16/02/2018 20:48

If I see one in the garden I get the dog going and send her after it. She chases them out of the garden and they stay away mostly. ( soft stupid dog that wouldn't ever bite a fly I must add. Just makes the right noises)

Cerseilannisterinthesnow · 17/02/2018 14:16

Apparently their poo can make the sheep lose the lamb, estate agents words not mine when I went to view she said pets are fine as long as no cats 🤷🏻‍♀️

CraftyGin · 17/02/2018 14:17

I’ve never hunted for cat poo. They bury it, so it’s not obvious. Perhaps you are finding Fox poo.

Biscusting · 17/02/2018 14:19

Never! Because I have a dog who would eat the cat and/or the poo.

Win win

JacquesHammer · 17/02/2018 14:21

That’s a “fact” often trotted out on cat threads and isn’t accurate. Some cats bury their poo. Not all.

Perhaps you are finding Fox poo

The difference is very obvious

Flomper · 17/02/2018 14:23

Never seen it in our garden, despite loads of cats around.

Nervousrex · 17/02/2018 14:29

Too bloody often. Sodding things. Angry

Cerseilannisterinthesnow · 17/02/2018 14:34

Definately cat poo as I said in my post I caught the filthy thing mid skitter and it certainly didn’t bury it, I also second that you can usually tell the difference smell for a start

MissMisery · 17/02/2018 17:27

Bloody things. Angry At least 3-4 times a week. My neighbour has two and delights in telling me how clean she is.."She never even uses her litter tray!" As if she has discovered the worlds first non-shitting cat. Erm no.... it shits in my bloody garden.!!!!!my veg patch, flower beds and lawn. Perhaps I should throw my dogs crap over to her??!

Dozer · 17/02/2018 17:30

Loads in our garden, next door’s cats mainly, never buried. Lots of fox poo too. Grim. DH has tried many repellants to no avail.

ranoutofquinoa · 17/02/2018 17:50

We've two cats and we've told the neighbours to use a water pistol to get them off their gardens!

You can try lemon peel or cayenne pepper once the weather is a bit better. Or grow curry leaves their not supposed to like the smell. Other tips I've been told it to pop plastic forks prong side out of the soil to make the soil not very appealing to cats bottoms! Wink

user1498927651 · 17/02/2018 17:54

I have only had a problem with dog poo. I don't know if the neighbours are letting their dog(s) out the front door off lead and unsupervised, or if it is dogs being walked past my house. Give me cat poo any day!

TemporarySign · 17/02/2018 18:17

This is one of my biggest pet hates! We must have two dozen cats on a small street of a dozen houses, and the amount of poo on the streets is disgusting. We've all stood in it quite regularly, had it tracked through the house once.

This is why cat owners have cats, though, so that they don't have to clean up. I hate it. How would they feel if I threw all the kids' dirty nappies on their doorsteps! Grrrrrr

KurriKurri · 17/02/2018 18:28

yesterday I planted out some new plants I had bought in my border - I put deterrent granules and sharp sticks all over the area I had planted - the next door cat managed to find a small gap (about three inches square) between the sticks and shat in it. Ont op of the soil = no attempt to bury it. It isn;t foxes it is a ginger cat I often catch it mid shit, but shouting at it just makes it look round with total contempt.

It attacks my dog if I let him out.

My other neighbour told me this morning that it has found a way of getting into his garden workshop (he has caught it in there) and it shits all over his tools.

Might just collect it all up for a week and then fling it into neighbours garden to see how she likes it (but of course I wouldn;t because she has a little girl who doesn't deserve to be covered in cat shit just because her mother is a selfish pet owner. Not that she'd show the same consideration if I had small children)

AmIthatbloodycold · 17/02/2018 20:59

Well that must be a record. A whole day before the "fox poo, cats bury" post appeared

Well done Craftygin. Star
