To think this is the bottom of the barrel for penny pinching!

Email from work saying that our reports should be in font 11 as font 12 uses more paper.

I doubt this is an environmental concern. We've already been told to go easy on the biros.

Well it sounds controlling and “penny-pinching” but it’s avtislly a great idea that costs you nothing- what difference to you to type in 11 not 12? - so I’d not bother moaning about that and save your ire for the teabags ... priorities, innit?

k2p2k2tog · 16/02/2018 12:09

Wouldn't they be better moving to a digital format to reports rather than printing in the first place? Most workplaces hardly print anything off these days.

Somersetter · 16/02/2018 12:10

Font 12 is pretty big - I use 10 and print double sided when I have to print something, or often print two pages per sheet of A4. Everything little counts Smile

Freshprincess · 16/02/2018 12:12

i would not be unhappy about this, it's taken me 3 years to get our brand guidelines into approved templates and documents and make everyone use them. You fuck about with my fonts and I'm coming for you.

Our printer automatically prints double sided, you have to get IT to change the setting if you don't want it to or you insert blank pages into your document to fool the printer I like to think I'm offsetting my reckless attitude to paper with the amount of times I turn the lights off in office/kitchen/toilets when there's nobody in them.

Freshprincess · 16/02/2018 12:13

*unhappy should say happy, obviously.

Notevilstepmother · 16/02/2018 12:16

They’d be better changing the margins.

happiestcamper · 16/02/2018 12:17

Our computers are all set to only print b&w. If we want colour we have to send to the boss and he will authorise and print it if he thinks its necessary. This is education!

GrannyGrissle · 16/02/2018 12:20

When we were children DM used to insist we use 2 sheets of loo roll for a wee and 4 for a poo. I used to use an extra sheet or two when she'd annoyed me just to spite her.

BookHelpPlease · 16/02/2018 12:22

They'd be better resetting the default margins on documents. Sometimes half the page is blank.

GrumpyOldBagFace · 16/02/2018 12:23

They chose a shit cheap computer system that doesn't sync nor communicate with any of our partner organisations so we have to print and post 3 or 4 copies of reports!

Our reports are limited to two sides (one sheet) as they found people won't read anything any longer (unless there is a real need to write a super detailed report).

Ah I remember the days when reps would come with biros and post its, distributing them like treasure.

One young man saved the USA absolutely huge huge amount of money through recommending a font size change - he won all kinds of prizes. It was a wonderful suggestion actually.

brownelephant · 16/02/2018 12:26

font 11?
we have to use 9
and we are paperless...

GrumpyOldBagFace · 16/02/2018 12:28

Ok, maybe their font size suggestion is a good one but I'm still going to doodle love hearts around the margins using company biros... and drink extra tea! Nah!!

At my work (students involved) we've got a,new policy which says we've to print EVERYTHNG in size 16 or 18 don't do that students with sight problems can read it without needing to be singled out by asking for bigger. It's a pain in the arse and really difficult to get some tables / diagrams on one page which only makes them harder for everyone to follow!

saltandvinegarcrisps1 · 16/02/2018 12:32
  • so that - not "don't do that"
BitOutOfPractice · 16/02/2018 12:35

Stop abusing the biros OP Sad (((((((OP's Biro))))))

maddiemookins16mum · 16/02/2018 12:35

They're removing the sani bins at my work. We have to 'make our own arrangements' as of Monday.

MagicFajita · 16/02/2018 12:36

We had hour long training session on printing economically and we were each given a code with 1000 A4 prints per term attached.

Only problem was that the person in charge of IT didn't make photocopying coded also. You can imagine how that worked out.

TheFirstMrsDV · 16/02/2018 12:40

11 font is a stupid size.
It makes reading difficult

There are better ways of saving money without making output inaccessible.

brownelephant · 16/02/2018 12:40

is that legal not to provide a bin?

awankstainonhumanity · 16/02/2018 12:41

maddimookins seriously? I'd argue that's discrimination. Personally,my 'own arrangement' would be the office bin of the person who decided that.

TinklyLittleLaugh · 16/02/2018 12:43

That's pretty shocking Maddi. I'd bet good money a man came up with that idea.

Hope they have increased the plumbing budget for when people block the loos by flushing their sanpro.

Cornettoninja · 16/02/2018 12:45

They're going to regret that once the drains get blocked.

sashh · 16/02/2018 12:49

OP

Pleae dm me the company name and I'll write a complaint under the DDA that they are discriminating.

LifeBeginsNow · 16/02/2018 12:50

My first thought is to get the women on board and put sanitary waste in the office bins. Horrid for a bit but you'll get your sanitary bins back!
