What age do you think your looks started to fade ?

I think I still look pretty great at forty, don’t think my skin looks forty at all
So I’m wondering when will I really notice it ? Know it’s different for everyone
I’m think maybe after 50 now ?

35 is when I realised I looked old Sad

julesmumoftwins · 16/02/2018 18:37

I would say my looks have only changed, as in wrinkles and looser skin, in the last 12 months and I'm in my late 50's!!! But my Mum never looked her age, bless her xx

SugarMiceInTheRain · 16/02/2018 18:38

Early 30s, coincided with having my 3rd child. DC3 has aged me more than the previous decade and two older children did. There's too much going on with my face - pale, freckled skin, plus occasional hormonal spots, throw in some lines and dark circles due to permanent tiredness and I look an utter wreck. Prior to having DC3 people thought I was younger than my age, now they don't question my age, and many assume I'm a similar age to my DH, who is 9 years older than me Sad

VerbenaGirl · 16/02/2018 18:40

Started going downhill for me at 41 😣

Pinkrabbit72 · 16/02/2018 18:47

You're as young as you feel and if you feel good, your looks will reflect this. In my mid forties I had my teeth staightened and lost 4 stone. For the first time in my life I can wear what I want as I'm a size 6. So what if I'm wearing shorts and short skirts at my age? I'm making up for lost time! Don't worry about ageing and how you look, just enjoy it and the experiences that go with it.

Jux · 16/02/2018 18:50

I was OK until dd was born (I was 41). DH became completely controlling and a shit. He wouldn't let me buy moisturiser because there was some 'at home'. Half a bottle of Simple which was 3+ years old and smelt weird. Itt has been on his sill since I met him! So, for 5+ years I had no moisturiser except an out of date weird-smelling one designed for teens. So etimes I used olive oil, but he always knew and found some silly thing to get really pissed off about when I did. My skin went to pot and has never recovered.

The worst thing is, I am now a ringer for my mum!

Chaotica · 16/02/2018 18:59
  1. It pisses me off, but looking on here I really shouldn't complain. Now trying to figure out how to look shit hot + old at the same time. (I know it can be done, just don't know how.)
gutrotweins · 16/02/2018 19:03

Umm... I feel mine never reached their full potential. Am still waiting for them to peak in the few years before I draw my pension. Then they can fade as fast as they like.

cheeseslovesme · 16/02/2018 19:03

Definitely 40 for me, My DH still says I am good looking. I don't see it, I just see that I look old.Sad

palepinkflowers · 16/02/2018 19:03

Depends on how you look after yourself and how you dress as well as your mindset. I can think of 40 year olds who look dowdy and glamorous 60 year olds. Age seems to work in different ways for people.

BestZebbie · 16/02/2018 19:16

34 was the year that I flipped over the course of about a month from having a fringe to make me look older so that I'd be taken seriously at work, to having a fringe because I have wrinkles on my forehead and they aren't symmetrical...

Mummadeeze · 16/02/2018 19:18

Am about to turn 44 and haven't really thought about looking old apart from finding the odd white hair. This is a horrible depressing thread as I suddenly have the dread that it is all going to go downhill from now on! I hope I can buck the trend as I definitely can't afford plastic surgery!

SchadenfreudePersonified · 16/02/2018 19:20

I was pretty plain when I was young - but my appearance hardly aged at all, and TBH, by the time I was in my 30's I looked better than I ever had. Skin had cleared up, and I had put weight on from babies that put me up from an anorexic-looking six-and-a-half stones to eight.

I didn't look my age until about 10 years ago, when I developed a thyroid problem, and then Sjogren's syndrome. This piled the weight on me and dried my skin out horribly, so I went from 50 to 150 almost overnight (I'm 64).

I agree with PP the people who seem to age best are often those with strong, though not necessarily, beautiful features. I have seen women with "interesting" faces who seem to grow into their features and look better older than younger - perhaps it is because they develop confidence in who they are, too - harder when you are riddled with teenage angst and crippled with self-consciousness.

lanbro · 16/02/2018 19:23

I'm nearly 38 and look and feel the best I have in years! Hopefully I can keep it up!

BubblesBubblesBubbles · 16/02/2018 19:27

34 - I noticed a few weeks ago I’m starting to look older Sad

The last 6 months have been very stressful - I’ve piled on the weight - my skins gone to pot - my hair is a mess.

2018 was supposed to be the start of a new year new me...it’s not even started yet!!

anothersuitcase · 16/02/2018 19:30
  1. Almost overnight so much changed. I could look at photos from a year or two before and I looked totally different and so much younger
Confusedbeetle · 16/02/2018 19:37

50

SukiTheDog · 16/02/2018 19:42

For me 52/53. I’m 55 now. I just look tired and my pale complexion has kind of gone into a totally bloodless looking state so, as long as I’m prepared to use blush lippie and do my eyes, I feel fine.

I was in a meeting recently and after leaving, was later told by someone else there that they were shocked by my actual age, thinking I was around 40-ish. I was delighted but....it doesn’t change the facts. And my body has totally “had it”! 🍷helps.

MrsMaisel · 16/02/2018 19:48

Fuck this is depressing

BanyanTree · 16/02/2018 19:51

I know lots of women who in my opinion have got better with age. I know a 44 year old that knocks socks off any 21 year old I know. She is really beautiful without a line on her face. I also know a 50-year old who has a stunning figure and a mop of honey blond hair that picks her DC up in her gym gear and makes us all feel woefully inadequate. Some women get better with age and look and feel confident and are timeless.

I wouldn't put myself in that bracket but I feel better now in my 40's thats I ever did. My DH says I am like a decent bottle of red wine that gets better with age.

keffie12 · 16/02/2018 19:52

Jux it sounds to me you need to lose your husband if he has turned like that. It will make you feel a whole lot better too, as that sounds alot like abuse to me. I should know I used to be married to one who was. Amazing how much better I got when I got shut of him finally

SukiTheDog · 16/02/2018 19:53

Maisel don’t be silly, some people never age through lack of opportunity.

YorkshireLurker · 16/02/2018 19:54

About 5 mins old for me - never been a looker unfortunately ha GrinBlush

However I've only got a few wrinkles at 28 so I'll take what I can get!!

DavetheCat2001 · 16/02/2018 19:56

I look fucking amazing

petbear · 16/02/2018 19:57

IMO, it's when women are in their late 40's that their looks start to fade... Many women I know looked 5-8 years younger than their age in their 20's and 30's and even early 40's. Then when they hit 46-48 y.o. they suddenly looked their age. (Me included!)

I don't know a woman over 50 who looks younger than 48-50. Not one. And some look several years older. A few wear make up and dye their hair and so on, and dress 'trendy' and look 7-8 years younger from a distance/at first glance. But when you look properly, they look their age.

As has been said, women who are pretty - large eyes/full lips etc, tend to age a bit better, but even then, they look their age.

As for smokers, they age about seven years earlier.

Having said all this, many women 48+ are still attractive, and look good for different reasons than the youthful cuteness. But you do need more help to look really good when you pass your mid 40's.

I look really tired and weary and OLD with no make up. Like, 5 years older.

Also, I have to add that I don't think women age any worse than men really. I see as many 'rough-looking' men, as I do 'rough-looking' women. But I do think men tend to wear grey hair and wrinkles better. I think grey hair on a woman under 60 looks terrible. (JMHO.)

A few people have said 'what is all this fuss with youthful looks?' and 'I look better now yada yada,' and I am glad they are confident and happy with their looks. But no way is a 50 y.o. going to look as good (physically) as a 25 y.o.

I was gorgeous at 25; slim, fit, and toned, gorgeous glossy wavy blonde hair, pert boobs, nice white teeth, soft silky complexion, great tight bum etc...... but I didn't realise it at the time. I thought I was a bit plain and fat too! (I was 9 stone and 5 ft 4-ish.)

What I would give to look like that now. Sad It's true that youth is wasted on the young.
