To think the BBC has lost the plot ...

Just watching the first episode of Hard Sun. Complete crap, and not the first crap drama we've seen on the BBC recently.

Yet we've seen some fantastic original drama on Netflix.

Sad, sad, sad. Please BBC, sort yourself out.

Erm...thickos and dramas...

curlywirely · 14/02/2018 22:44

However their nature programs alone justify the license fee, they are outstanding

Well actually I'm starting to find them a bit repetitive, sanctimonious and formulaic. Expensive too.

Blue Planet .... oh how people waxed lyrical about it ... yet I could barely tell one episode from the next. David Attenborough is absolutely an icon, but it's more than time for him to retire, and for a fresh new format to bubble through to the surface.

Why?

Alloftheboys · 14/02/2018 22:49

@chocolateworshipper OH has given me his nasty virus/flu/plague type thing so I probably shouldn't be holding hands.
Will this do?

Programmes appear on BBC iPlayer immediately after they are aired. They disappear a month or so later. The Minitutist was aired at Christmas, therefore is now gone.

Surely someone of your superior intellect has figured that out!. 😂

RebelRogue · 14/02/2018 22:50

Oh no , OP how will your superior intelligence ever manage without equally superior BBC dramas?
The horror of it all!!

exWifebeginsat40 · 14/02/2018 22:50

i see you, Alan Partridge. you’re not getting a third series. get over it.

ghostyslovesheets · 14/02/2018 22:53

anyone for Monkey Tennis?

BellMcEnd · 14/02/2018 22:56

Oh Loooooord, Kumbayah.

That Requiem looks interesting. Will watch that tomorrow

(I have a first class BSc but only realised recently that Banoffi is not a place where a nice pie originated.......)

CoolCarrie · 14/02/2018 22:58

The BBC is bloody wonderful, try living elsewhere and see the shit other channels come up with!

sixteenapples · 14/02/2018 22:59

I agree - disappointing. I have been ill so binge watched Hard Sun - looked promising and then never quite made it. The consequences of the Hard Sun didn't materialise, each criminal episode was just a bit bloody and sick, the MI5 shenannigans didn't quite ring true and all in all it was a bit thin.

Watched Requiem too - started well but petered out and got silly.

Still - just my view.

I pay my license fee for the Radio, (esp 4), BBC Bitesize, the Learning English stuff, the sports coverage and the odd drama.

GnotherGnu · 14/02/2018 23:00

How does the fact that you don't like one programme out of the vast amount of material broadcast by the BBC mean that it has lost the plot?

sixteenapples · 14/02/2018 23:01

Oh sorry BellMcEnd - x-posted - didn't want to put a damper on that. You might love it!! Grin

curlywirely · 14/02/2018 23:02

Surely someone of your superior intellect has figured that out!

Doh! Surely channels with a greater grasp of customer service have figured out that people have busy lives, and that is a bad business model.

Probably why the BBC is belatedly trying to follow in Netflix's footprints.

Don't get me wrong ... I'm a very late convert to Netflix, and most of their content is shit. But enough of it isn't. And, sadly, the BBC has been appalling recently.

OP posts:
Exiguous · 14/02/2018 23:05

Would love to see The Miniaturist, but guess what, no longer available on BBC iPlayer. WTF!!

Even I managed to watch it before it expired, and I'm not even in the UK.

justinhawkinsnavalfluff · 14/02/2018 23:16

So curleywirely Blue Planet was boring was it and yet it appears to have opened up a whole conversation about the effect of plastics on the sea.....hmmmmm....

Iceskatingsnake · 14/02/2018 23:17

I’m officially a thicko. I was premature and have mild learning difficulties and an IQ under 100. Being so thick, I assumed that BBC drama would be beyond my comprehension. I generally only watch CBeebies and eastenders which I find pretty intellectual, but it seems I was totally wrong and that the vast majority is BBC drama is created for people as dense as me. Off to find Hard Sun on iPlayer (in the knowledge it hasn’t been aired on the terrestrial station long enough to have been taken down yet.)

StopEatingLikeAFuckingPig · 14/02/2018 23:23

Proud to be a thicko

Binge watched & enjoyed

Peaky Blinders make my fee worth while though

isitfridayyet1 · 14/02/2018 23:24

I didn't like hard sun either, I also found it confusing that bbc are trying to do the whole Netflix hing and have all episodes available online immediately. I needed up thinking the series was inverted weeks earlier than it was!

Clique was a teens thing though really. Didn't it start on the internet and only get on to TV because of its popularity?

I liked Hard Sun, but I am obviously very thick because several times I had to ask DH what was going on. I like Peaky Blinders too; I'm all about the look and feel of a show to be honest. If I want to be intellectually challenged I'll read a book.

FloydOnThePull · 14/02/2018 23:44

I watched the box set of Requiem when I was ill last week, it started well but got very crap very quickly. It's just Hot Fuzz but without the jokes.

postingherefortraffic · 14/02/2018 23:50

The acting is shocking.

We're watching Luther again!!

TinklyLittleLaugh · 15/02/2018 00:04

I thought the acting was pretty good. Liked Agyness Wotserface a lot. The MI5 lady was very good. The main guy maybe not so much.

kittensinmydinner1 · 15/02/2018 07:06

Doh !! Why are you all sooo stoopid ? I
think you lot have all missed the point of the thread. It's not really about the BBC - it's about how little viewing the OP can source, to compliment her massive intellect. ... and for all of us to be in awe of her magnificent brain power. .. SO much cleverer than the rest of us, happy to enjoy our intellectually inferior lives - satisfied as we are with simple drama for simple people.
