To not understand how you can be so ignorant and unaware of the world around you that you still flush wet wipes and tampons down the toilet?

How is it even possible in the information age?

I reckon a huge number of people know they shouldn't do it but flush anyway in the hope they will get away with it and they won't be the one having to dig out any resulting blockage.

Much like the hundreds of thousands of cunts who chuck their litter out of car windows - out of sight out of mind.

Gets me down, it does.

I read several newspapers and watch the news. I have a BSc and an MSc

I missed all the newspaper articles and news headlines telling me we were no longer supposed to flush tampons.

There were loads apparently..... or not

MaryPoppinsPenguins · 14/02/2018 19:23

No, not really. I think it’s pretty selfish to answer people in the rude way you have. Not everyone has to feel the same way you do.

And yes, there are instances where it is unavoidable. It’s not that hard to imagine.

TheOnlyLivingBoyInNewCross · 14/02/2018 19:23

Where was this information widely disseminated?

On tampon boxes. In news articles. On the doors in public toilets which ask you not to flush sanitary products...

Crashbangwhatausername · 14/02/2018 19:23

I accidentally flushed my mooncup once. Because I'm a cunt like that.

Cherrycokewinning · 14/02/2018 19:24

“But this is a serious biggie. It suggests to me that anyone who doesn't know spends their life avoiding serious subjects and personal responsibility or being devoid of the ability to think for a moment.“

Fuck me 😭😂 how pig ignorant are you?

Hairydilemma · 14/02/2018 19:25

I only realised they weren’t flushable a couple of years ago when I read it on here, like others.

I also remember the ‘Tampax lady’ telling us specifically at school that you flushed them... I never did any different until I joined mumsnet and realised it’s a cardinal sin.

Agree with everyone who’s pointed out that ‘you don’t know what you don’t know’ - a lot of people, judging by this thread, seem to have been educated on this by chance.

Always bag and bin now.

Cherrycokewinning · 14/02/2018 19:25

“Today 19:23 Crashbangwhatausername

I accidentally flushed my mooncup once. Because I'm a cunt like that.“

Such an ignorant cunt. Read a paper FFS.

Laiste · 14/02/2018 19:25

Heratnumber7 why the Hmm face at tampons falling straight out when they're soaked?

I'm guessing that because it doesn't happen to you you think it's not true?

EsmeWeatherwax · 14/02/2018 19:25

@Heratnumber7

A) yes, really. This has happened to me on numerous occasions. Usually first thing in the morning. Just because it doesn't happen to you, I'm assuming, doesn't mean it never happens.

Cherrycokewinning · 14/02/2018 19:26

😂 sorry crashbangwhatausername I’m making myself LOL with that one

FluffyWuffy100 · 14/02/2018 19:26

I didn’t know about tempons until a thread on MN a couple of years ago! We were taught to flush them in the late 1990s when I started using them.

Also they sell ‘flishable’ Wipes. Really shouldn’t be allowed to mark them as flushable.

FeistyColl · 14/02/2018 19:27

I'm loving the concept of setting out to educate yourself about something you didn't know you were ignorant of ...

An informative thread bringing it to people's attention would have been more helpful than berating people's ignorance.

FingersCrossedHard · 14/02/2018 19:27

But this is a serious biggie. It suggests to me that anyone who doesn't know spends their life avoiding serious subjects and personal responsibility or being devoid of the ability to think for a moment

Hmm 'spends their life avoiding serious subjects'? Really? You're sounding more of a sanctimonious twat every second.

Why not use the thread to educate rather than insult? Or is that beyond your ability to think?

HarveyKietelRabbit · 14/02/2018 19:27

You're talking absolute bollocks OP in your last comment and I think you know that.

I just googled 'should we flush tampons?' And the first result was a Good Housekeeping thread from TWO days ago 'to flush or not to flush?' with one side saying you should.

I don't agree you should but only learned that from MN a few years ago. The idea that EVERY woman must have been given this information via news outlets is obviously not true.

wineusuallyhelps · 14/02/2018 19:28

Perhaps this is an age/generational thing?

I first used tampons in 1987 and they definitely told us to flush them. But it was my fault I never revisited the advice in the decades following.

Crashbangwhatausername · 14/02/2018 19:29

Cherry someone needed to tell me. I'll grab a daily mail on my way to work tomorrow to educate myself proper

FingersCrossedHard · 14/02/2018 19:29

I accidentally flushed my mooncup once. Because I'm a cunt like that

Such an ignorant cunt. Read a paper FFS

😂😂😂

LadyLoveYourWhat · 14/02/2018 19:30

Perhaps tampon manufacturers should be writing "DO NOT FLUSH" on big letters on the outside of all boxes? That, at least, would mean that most people would know.

Cherrycokewinning · 14/02/2018 19:30
Wink
NameChanger22 · 14/02/2018 19:30

This is the first I've heard of it. I've never thought to research it before. Why can't they be flushed?

Sofabitch · 14/02/2018 19:31

...unless they specifically said no tampons is assume period blood ie tampons would be fine.

But hey thank fuck for mooncups

dementedpixie · 14/02/2018 19:32

The box of tampons says not to flush

Ljlsmum · 14/02/2018 19:32

You don’t need to read the leaflet, it’s on the back of the box. Surely you do glance at the box and see the pic of a stickwoman flushing it with a cross through and another with a pic of stickwoman throwing it in bin.

elisenbrunnen · 14/02/2018 19:32

laiste tampons really don't (or shouldn't) fall out. If they do, you should work on your pelvic floor. Hmm

I flushed tampons ( lil-lets) in my whole menstruating years (up til about 6 years ago) because the packaging said I could.

Sofabitch · 14/02/2018 19:33

I'm not sure i have actually looked at a tampon box since i was 12
