To think that Radio 2 isn't really demonstrating gender equality?

First time poster but long time lurker (well since the 2am feeds started with DD at any rate which is when I mostly read the aibu posts)...just a thought that has been crossing my mind of late since being on mat leave and listening to radio 2 for large portions of the day; given the current dialogue about gender inequality be it pay or lack of women in top jobs etc, aibu to think that Radio 2 is pretty appalling given that of it's five main 'prime time' daytime shows they are all male presenters who have been in posts for years now?
I appreciate they all have followings of (potentially) different demographics and I myself like listening to two shows in particular, but to be honest I am pretty bored with some of the presenters and find the likes of Sarah Cox, Jo Whiley, Fearne Cotton, Zoe Ball and Liza Tarbuck both refreshing and entertaining (and yes I know that four out of these five have their own shows but they are either once a week on a Saturday or late evening/night time).
I'm not saying that the male presenters aren't any good at their jobs, but these women are just as good (if not better impo) and yet from 6:30am-7pm there are no female presenters .
Just wondered if this had crossed anyone elses minds or if I simply have too much thinking time on my hands atm...

But no messing with the Ken - he is the best.

Love Sara cox on the breakfast show, I actually get to listen to music on my way into work. Chris Evans is useless, I'm sure I spent a full week recently listening to him talk about eggs whilst driving into work. Just no need.

Cannot stand Ferne, she’s always bleating on about her kids.

Don’t like Jo W either and think her and Simon will be a very weird combo.

I also think a female should get a solo show, not sharing which seems a contrived move. They can get rid of Steve Wright, he’s had his day.

Am I the only one that loves Vanessa feltz? I think she’s funny, down to Earth, I love listening to her.

Yes, agree with many PPs that Sara Cox is much better than Evans. I don't understand why he gets the listening figures that he does, just awful. I've switched to Radio 6 unless Evans is away.

Liza Tarbuck is bonkers, love her!

Zoe Ball is awful and can't seem to get through a show without mentioning her Dad or at least that used to be the case, don't listen to her anymore.

I have noticed the all male line up. I don't listen to Evans (can't stand him), don't mind Bruce, listen to Vine because I like the viewer interaction. Wright is well past his sell by date, and Mayo is dull. The latter two could go.

I like Sara Cox - she would be great on the Wright slot.

I cannot abide Cotton or Ball. Cotton is a charisma bypass zone. Ball is like a superannuated teenager - everyone is lovely, amazing, fantastic, she loves everything, gush gush. A female Evans. And If I hear one more word about Lucious Lottie.....We are usually driving home from somewhere when she is on. We have to put our foot down to get home before Tarbuck. I don't mind her but my DH gets the rage when he hears her.

Norton and his fake laugh need to go too. Him and his smug and catty sidekick Maria Macarlane. I think the Alan Carr and Mel Sykes combo when they took over for 6 weeks was refreshing and funny. Or bring back Jonathan Ross.

Stewart Maconie used to be good on the Saturday afternoon slot, but he is on 6 Music or 5 Live (I think).

I wish I knew what info Steve Wright has on the BBC as the only reason I can think of that he still has a prime time show is that he blackmails them or something similar. The only time I have to listen to his shite is when I'm in my local charity shop as they have it on full blast. Oh, and the dentist. He is painfully shit and don't get me started on the two hangers on who do the Factoids with him, they make my ears bleed.

I’ve transitioned to 6 too. Can’t stand to hear Cerys sing but absolutely love hearing her talk. Do miss Jarvis’ hypnotic voice in a Sunday though. Also love Huey’s honesty when he plays a tune but isn’t keen on it

Batten- I think Wright must know the same stuff as Lorraine Kelly. There is no reason for their long tenure!

Chesty I also think Vanessa feltz is great. Also like Sara cox and Lisa tar buck, Zoe ball and anneika rice. Caught some woman wittering on about her kids I think that must have been fern cotton no don't like her.

Jeremy vine, Simon mayo and graham norton can stay, the other men should be replaced by women.

I'm a 6 music fan and my favourite show is Lauren Laverne's. They do have Cerys on a Sunday as well, but some of the male presenters are so irritating.
Are there any women only radio stations?

I think you're absolutely right op, I've long thought the same.

Why hasn't Sara Cox got her own show,why does she just fill in? She's heaps better than Ken Bruce,Jeremy Vine,Steve Wright and yes Chris Evans. Dp and I commute together. A Sara Cox day is a lovely surprise, dp much nicer to travel with on those days,he rants at Chris normally.

Why is Vanessa Feltz shoved on at 5 and then just a filler? She too is heaps better than Bruce,Wright and Vine. I switch off all day when those 3 are on. Why do they get so much airtime still? Is it because they're white,middle aged men?If they were women they'd have been axed long ago.

The only men that truely deserve their slots are Graham Norton and Simon Mayo. Love both of those shows.

Maybe somebody needs to ask Radio 2.

Popmaster is shit without Ken and a day is shit without Popmaster. Steve Wright should just stick to Love Songs on Sundays so I don't have to listen.

Not the point of the thread but I can’t stand Chris Evans anymore (I feel like he’s got worse). He shouts a lot, as if shouting is a substitute for not having much of a personality.
He also talks about golf, his famous friends playing golf, cars, his famous friends in cars... and gushes over his celebrity guests.
I love Sara cox in comparison, she talks about normal stuff. I don’t know how he’s still clinging on to that job. And being paid much more than everyone else to boot.

At 2pm I have to switch tge radio off as Steve Wright is just unbearable (stupid jingles, his ruination of any decent song by singing (badly) through it or fading it put too quickly. He is truly the one person to switch my radio off!

Mogu exactly what you said re Chris Evans. That is what makes dp's blood boil. The whole show is based on frittering money,cars, a very high middle class lifestyle and celebrity. Sara Cox is more real and doesn't rely on expensive gimmicks or her privileged lifestyle to entertain.

Fuzzy Re: Elaine Paige. They MAKE the poor amateurs do that. Most would happily just be totally normal, but they are told they have to do it like that to get a chance of being played, and they must say "Hi Elaine" in a really cheerful voice and they must do this.... It's awful. The idea of the show was always a good one but why they chose her beyond her name escapes me. She's rubbish.

Sadly, as are most of the female presenters. Rather disheartening. I used to like Sarah Kennedy before Wogan in days of old. And Annie Nightingale. Never liked Janice Long though. Sara Cox definitely the one I do really like. Jo Whiley has such a monotonous voice. Fearne Cotton is just hideous.

Steve "Love Your Show" Wright went passed his sell by date years ago although in his early days on Radio 1 I thought he was great and was a breath of fresh air. Ken Bruce is, for my money, the new Wogan and should be allowed to remain on air for as long as he wants. Just a perfect voice, the right rapport with people, great banter with Sally Traffic etc.

Sara way better. Why does Chris think other people are interested in his children? His running. His cars etc. Hate Fridays with the guests as he fawns over them.
