We're supposed to be leaving tomorrow, just noticed this. Feel like such a dick.
Will I be refused boarding?

OP posts:

As you probably know your passport should be valid for a minimum period of 6 months from the date of entry into the Maldives. I have no idea whether they will let you go, sorry.

kyrenialady · 14/02/2018 07:42

It says this on the government website.

Passport validity
Your passport should be valid for a minimum period of 6 months from the date of entry into the Maldives

I'm not sure what to suggest OP, but wishing you the best.

DrRanjsRightEyebrow · 14/02/2018 07:43

Can you hot foot it to passport office today?

LolitaLempicka · 14/02/2018 07:43

It’s possible.

430West · 14/02/2018 07:43

Afraid so, they won't let you on the plane.

Can you do a 1 day renewal today?

PotteringAlong · 14/02/2018 07:44

Do you live anywhere near a passport office that you can get a one day appointment?

Littlecaf · 14/02/2018 07:44

I bet they won’t check in detail. It’s valid and I suspect you have a return flight ticket and reasons to come back for ? (House, mortgage, job, family etc?)

lowcarbcath · 14/02/2018 07:44

Found this on tripadvisor, someone had the same issue. Looks like you'll have to try and get a new one today.

Fitzsimmons · 14/02/2018 07:45

Can you try and get an appointment today at a passport centre?

lostincumbria · 14/02/2018 07:48

That link says they let the travellers in, lowcarbcath.

Me, I'd be trying to get a new one today.

Tensecondrule · 14/02/2018 07:52

I would be off to get a one day renewal at the nearest passport office today, it's not worth the risk.

IPodOverboard · 14/02/2018 07:54

Have you double checked the details? I had the same situation flying to Dubai but in actual fact, if you were staying under a certain amount of time you only needed three months validity.

I would make certain and get the one-day premium service if needed.

Bitofeverything · 14/02/2018 07:54

I used to travel a lot for work, and my passport got down to three months before expiry and I didn’t have a problem. A Tunisia border official once pointed it out to me, but didn’t stop me. It is a risk though. Hope it goes ok for you.

Amanduh · 14/02/2018 07:55

You’ll probably be ok. However you may not... depends if that’s a chance you’re willing to take! Try and get a passport appt asap today x

Bitofeverything · 14/02/2018 07:57

I wasn’t flying to Maldives specifically, but I went through a lot of passport controls that daud they demanded six months, and actually didn’t

saltandvinegarcrisps1 · 14/02/2018 08:00

Probably will not allow you to board. Friend of mine went to Singapore and was 2 days short of 6 months. Got through check in and security, champagne in the bar etc then not allowed on at the gate. You need to go to the passport office and try and get the new one in a day. Good luck.

SoftSheen · 14/02/2018 08:14

Go to the passport office today. It will be expensive but you can get a passport renewed in 4 hours. Don't risk missing your holiday!

DeputyBrennan · 14/02/2018 08:41

You might well be fine, but if there’s any way at all that you can manage to get to an appointment for a renewal today, then I’d definitely do that.

No way would I (personally) risk just turning up at the airport with the current passport unless all other options had been exhausted. Not for a trip to the Maldives. What a hassle though.

SweetMoon · 14/02/2018 08:45

I wouldn't risk it. You need to get to a passport office today asap

BarbaraofSevillle · 14/02/2018 08:47

The foreign office link above says should not must.

I'd try to get a one day appointment, but otherwise chance it. They probably won't even notice on the way out and the main time it will matter will be on immigration into the Maldives.

Once there I'd expect your experience to be similar to Bitofeverything, the might mention it, in a 'make sure you renew this when you get home' but I'd be surprised if they refuse entry and send you straight back once you've got all that way, especially as you can demonstrate you're planning to come back in a week or two.

Chardonnay73 · 14/02/2018 08:52

Can you check with the embassy and get them to email confirmation that it would be ok which you can print off and show if needs be?

greendale17 · 14/02/2018 08:53

Why risk it. I really don’t think they will allow you to board anyway.

Go get a new passport today.

graziemille · 14/02/2018 09:00

Who are you flying with?
The Maldives makes you complete a declaration form before landing and put passport details on there.
They do read the form before they stamp your passport.
It's a small airport and the staff are friendly but very rule/law driven.
I wouldn't take the chance.

Chardonnay73 · 14/02/2018 09:03

Just been on the embassy website- you do need at least 6 months Sad
Get thee to the passport office!!

BarbaraofSevillle · 14/02/2018 09:05

Maldives Embassy is a good idea.
