To fly to The Maldives with only five months on my passport?

We're supposed to be leaving tomorrow, just noticed this. Feel like such a dick.
Will I be refused boarding?

As you probably know your passport should be valid for a minimum period of 6 months from the date of entry into the Maldives. I have no idea whether they will let you go, sorry.

It says this on the government website.

I bet they won’t check in detail. It’s valid and I suspect you have a return flight ticket and reasons to come back for ? (House, mortgage, job, family etc?)

Found this on tripadvisor, someone had the same issue. Looks like you'll have to try and get a new one today.

I would be off to get a one day renewal at the nearest passport office today, it's not worth the risk.

Have you double checked the details? I had the same situation flying to Dubai but in actual fact, if you were staying under a certain amount of time you only needed three months validity.

I would make certain and get the one-day premium service if needed.

I used to travel a lot for work, and my passport got down to three months before expiry and I didn’t have a problem. A Tunisia border official once pointed it out to me, but didn’t stop me. It is a risk though. Hope it goes ok for you.

I wasn’t flying to Maldives specifically, but I went through a lot of passport controls that daud they demanded six months, and actually didn’t

Probably will not allow you to board. Friend of mine went to Singapore and was 2 days short of 6 months. Got through check in and security, champagne in the bar etc then not allowed on at the gate. You need to go to the passport office and try and get the new one in a day. Good luck.

Go to the passport office today. It will be expensive but you can get a passport renewed in 4 hours. Don't risk missing your holiday!

You might well be fine, but if there’s any way at all that you can manage to get to an appointment for a renewal today, then I’d definitely do that.

No way would I (personally) risk just turning up at the airport with the current passport unless all other options had been exhausted. Not for a trip to the Maldives. What a hassle though.

The foreign office link above says should not must.

I'd try to get a one day appointment, but otherwise chance it. They probably won't even notice on the way out and the main time it will matter will be on immigration into the Maldives.

Once there I'd expect your experience to be similar to Bitofeverything, the might mention it, in a 'make sure you renew this when you get home' but I'd be surprised if they refuse entry and send you straight back once you've got all that way, especially as you can demonstrate you're planning to come back in a week or two.

Why risk it. I really don’t think they will allow you to board anyway.

Who are you flying with?
The Maldives makes you complete a declaration form before landing and put passport details on there.
They do read the form before they stamp your passport.
It's a small airport and the staff are friendly but very rule/law driven.
I wouldn't take the chance.
