I've always thought marks and spencer do the best baby grows and sleepsuits. Friend says i am being a snob and should consider asda, tesco or other cheaper brands. Am i being a snob? I don't think they are too much cheaper and m&s quality is just better.

Primark all the way here. Morrisons also do some nice stuff.

champagneplanet · 14/02/2018 08:57

I would say shop around, M&S quality is very good and washes well, however I have found Tesco, Asda and Morrison's are very good.

It all depends on how much you're prepared to spend really.

Cornettoninja · 14/02/2018 08:57

We had a real mixture of branded, supermarket and designer stuff (mostly gifted) and there wasn't much in it imho.

I quite liked ASDA because their baby stuff comes up larger so bridges that 'between' gap quite nicely. My personal choice would be Sainsbury's - particularly for girls they have a nice colour choices, and I like the mothercare jools stuff (much as it grieves me Grin)

I got clothes from mother care when my baby was really young. Then as he got older I got ones from super markets and primark. They're not in them long, and we didn't have money to spend in expensive shops

HotCrossBunFight · 14/02/2018 08:59

JL, BabyGap have been excellent quality, Next, M&S good quality, Primark and supermarkets have been ok but you can tell the difference.

I do like the coloured popper at M&S so I don't get them mixed up.

M&S and John Lewis are our favourite. Polarn O Pyret are amazing (only ever buy in the sale) but I prefer to splash the cash on the 4yo clothes rather than the baby. Sainsburys are great for the price.

My concern with Primark/Tesco etc. is sweatshop labour.

I'm pretty sure that nearly everywhere on the highstreet uses sweatshop labour. The only difference is that some.shops charge you more for it.

AgnesBrownsCat · 14/02/2018 09:35

Just agree with her . What’s she going to say then ?
I don’t dress my kids in supermarket clothes either although they’ve had some presents from Asda which I was impressed with .

AgnesBrownsCat · 14/02/2018 09:36

And start buying the next sizes up in the sales from shops you like .

M&S, Next and Gap use sweat shops as well.

The Miniclub range from boots have the best sleepsuit! Bright and colourful and cheap too. I she'd a tear when dd2 got too big for them.

I don't like asda at all for baby stuff (seems fine for older kids though) their sleepsuit were all shiny and artificial feeling and the poppers were crap.

Tesco are fine quality wise, but are usually pink and frill for girls and sludge coloured or obnoxious for boys. Or the obligatory yellow with ducks on in the very limited unisex bit.

Next are lovely but a little pricey and sainsburys is the best of the supermarkets imo.

Seriously, give miniclub a go though.

Notso · 14/02/2018 11:04

It's been a while since I bought a babygro so maybe everywhere does this now but I always liked that M&S and Next did one month sizes rather than just newborn then 0-3 months.

Miniclub I used to like but found a lot of the really bright babygro's were the annoying ones that need to go over the head which always ended up like cold shoulder tops on my babies.

H&M and GAP I found were good and they did zippered babygros and those little gowns which were fab for nighttime.

ToastyFingers · 14/02/2018 11:29

That's right, they are mostly over-the-head types which I know a lot of people dislike but they're great for little ones who won't stay still long, or love to strip off (looking at you dd2)

Lennythelion14 · 14/02/2018 11:40

My babies primarily Primark and George. Cheap as they go through so many and wash and dry well. M&S for occasional special item. Eldest was mainly charity shop (we were very poor then) and youngest was lucky,as they were the last i stretched to an outfit or 2 from John Lewis.
