baby clothes

I've always thought marks and spencer do the best baby grows and sleepsuits. Friend says i am being a snob and should consider asda, tesco or other cheaper brands. Am i being a snob? I don't think they are too much cheaper and m&s quality is just better.

I found Sainsburys and tesco better quality to be honest.

Oysterbabe · 13/02/2018 21:06

We got a lot of our stuff in Gap. The quality is good and they've been handed down to the new one.

OutyMcOutface · 13/02/2018 21:06

M&S quality is very, very poor. If you are after better quality buy from John Lewis. Definitely avoid M&S. also avoid mothercare.

bimbobaggins · 13/02/2018 21:06

I don’t think you are being snobby, if you have a brand you prefer then that’s fine. However supermarket clothes are great, especially when they are small babies.

OutyMcOutface · 13/02/2018 21:11

Oh and the Asda stuff normally holds up for one child (but not worth it if you are reusing) and looks fairly smart. Good for women's socks too. My oldest pair of socks (5 years) is from Asda and still looks like new.

bellabasset · 13/02/2018 21:14

Sainsbury's 25% tu sale is on till the 19th and includes school uniforms.

lovelyjubilly · 13/02/2018 21:16

I love Boots for baby clothes. So colourful!

ajb17 · 13/02/2018 21:20

It depends what kind of clothes. I think the M&S baby clothes, especially sleepsuits bobble very quickly and don't wash well, the sizing also comes up smaller. Sainsbury's are great for sleepsuits.

frenchfancy81 · 13/02/2018 21:22

Mothercare and Next get my vote for sleepsuits and vests!

frenchfancy81 · 13/02/2018 21:23

Agree with Boots, too. Always found JL on the small side. We all like different things...

Neverender · 13/02/2018 21:24

It doesn't really matter but I do wish I'd picked one shop and bought all of DD's baby clothes from one place - the sizes are all over the place!

Neverender · 13/02/2018 21:24

Boots are really great tho...

upsideup · 13/02/2018 21:29

You are not being a snob at all, buy whatever clothes you like for you DC. We loved M&S for baby clothes too, also Next, Gap and mothercare. We had a few things from sainsburys but were really unimpressed with ASDA and Tesco.

Blackteadrinker77 · 13/02/2018 21:33

We use senseorganics, they are fair trade organic cotton and are very well priced. Love it, love it, love it are good as well.

We only buy 3 of each size and keep washing them when needed.

Blackteadrinker77 · 13/02/2018 21:38

If you think about it the economy would die a death if we all shopped and liked the same things.

user1471426142 · 13/02/2018 21:54

I liked the m&s ones the best too- generous sizing, coloured popper for easy fastener and washed well. For me, M&p/John Lewis were nice but smaller, my Sainsbury’s ones felt thin but good for summer, mothercare ones were fine but didn’t love the designs, next ones seemed to fit my daughter oddly, JoJo ones were small and (too) expensive but lovely and thick. I haven’t tried Tesco, Asda or primark so can’t compare but really they’re all pretty similar. Also lots of people seem to have had different experiences re sizing and washing so basically it’s all personal preference and if you’re happy then ignore your friend.

confusednotcom2 · 13/02/2018 21:57

Liked M&S sleepsuits as they were more generous. JL too & quality was nice. Sainsbury’s quite good as well. I didn’t like the Primark stuff, the colours faded & they seemed to shrink more.

vergina · 13/02/2018 22:23

I don't think you are being a snob. When mine were babies I used to buy Sainsbury's ones for night time and usually next ones for the daytime. Love a baby in a baby grow instead of proper outfits, baby grows look so much more comfortable for them!!

ambereeree · 14/02/2018 08:08

Vergina i agree! I kept mine in baby grows as i think they look so comfy. I would love to stay in my pyjamas all day! Plus i think baby grows are adorable.
I didn't notice a lot of bobbling on m&s clothes but did with mamas and papas.
I was given a few polarn o pyret clothes and yes they are fantastic especially for long babies. The colours also kept bright.

My concern with Primark/Tesco etc. is sweatshop labour. That’s not to say they are an absolute no for me... but I do feel guilty.

Mammyofasuperbaby · 14/02/2018 08:17

I have to admit that asda has been amazing for ds. He is an iugr and premature baby and therefore has gone through every size from up to 3lb and up and wore each size for months. They have all washed very well and are being passed down to our next child. Tesco premature clothing is awful, very rough and it unraveled when washed

Lules · 14/02/2018 08:21

I’ve found that it doesn’t really matter when they’re babies as they’re only in them a couple of months but once they get to toddlerhood Sainsbury’s stuff hasn’t lasted at all well.

Buglife · 14/02/2018 08:25

Not a snob but you could save a bit by looking elsewhere too. I found Boots Miniclib stuff was gorgeous with lovely quirky prints. H&M are great too and so cheap. I just love H&M kids stuff full stop, their PJ’s last forever and even my massive child fit into his H&M sleep-suits for months and months. Lovely stretchy thick material too. I found ASDA while they have some lovely looking stuff I always had to size up as they are cut small. John Lewis sleepsuits were fantastic and almost as new when we were finished with them. I didn’t have a nearby primary when I had DS but we do now so I may have a look for vests and basics, I had a look and they are 100% cotton. But some babies just do grow so fast longevity isn’t a huge concern, my high centile DS has a growth spurt at 4 months which put him straight into 6-9 months having barely worn his 3-6 stuff. I do like M&S baby outfits more than the sleepsuits.

mommybear1 · 14/02/2018 08:25

M&S are nice but for fit/wash etc Asda has been a surprise winner for me followed by Morrisons and I always thought I'd be a John Lewis "organic cotton" fan Grin

greendale17 · 14/02/2018 08:46

M&S quality is very, very poor.

^The majority of posters and I disagree with you on that. Morrisons and Asda are poor quality
