Disgusting?! I bought some to save time kind of thing if I just wanted something to stick in the microwave and my god they are awful, was still frozen even though putting them in the microwave for the time stated so had to go in for an extra 5 minutes. Taste very powdery and aren't even cheap?! Aibu in thinking they are disgusting?

I sometimes wonder if I'm missing out by only having a small freezer.

But clearly not. Confused

fluffiphlox · 12/02/2018 19:26

Blimey it was just a recipe suggestion. I didn’t really need the lecture on disability and fuel poverty.

LemonysSnicket · 12/02/2018 19:40

@sirzy how are you doing a jacket in 7 mins? a nice one takes 10 mins in microwave and then 40 in the oven???

demirose87 · 12/02/2018 19:46

Can't believe the things people kick off about on here. It's a bloody jacket potato! If you like them, buy them, if you don't like them, don't. No idea why disability is being brought into this.

SistersOfPercy · 12/02/2018 19:48

Another vote for bannisters. Really don't like the McCain ones.

Can I blow your minds and admit I buy frozen, ready chopped onions as well? Grin

Dancingfairy · 12/02/2018 19:49

I know someone who was horrified you could buy frozen omlettes. (Not something I buy)

Sounds like my experience with them. The cooking time given was just flat-out wrong, and what's the point anyway.

On the other hand the Tesco Value omelettes I do like. Cheap, effort-free, and taste nice enough.

SistersOfPercy · 12/02/2018 20:01

Anything thats quicker and easier, and especially something I can keep for ages stuffed in the porch freezer, gets my vote.

GatoradeMeBitch · 12/02/2018 20:06

I'm quite keen on them. But I don't just microwave them. I do 5 minutes in the microwave while the cooker preheats - and yes they are a bit raw at that stage - and then I stick them in the oven with whatever DS is having for dinner, invariably something that takes 20 minutes or so. Then they're perfect.

lookingforthecorkscrew · 12/02/2018 20:10

Stuck a fresh spud in the oven at 6pm. Got on with shit, put DC to bed. Came back to it at 7.15, bunged a load of tuna and sweet corn in it and demolished it. Lovely.

Frozen/microwaved spuds sound grim. You have to really commit to a decent jacket potato.

BarbaraofSevillle · 12/02/2018 21:04

I suppose there's a place in the market for stuff like this. If you only have a microwave, you can't make your own omelette, so the ready made ones might not be too bad.

Dancingfairy · 12/02/2018 21:06

Like microwave chips I suppose.

I've just had one, actually. McCains. They're fine.

Gilead · 12/02/2018 22:22

No idea why disability is being brought into this.

  1. Because it exists.
2) Because people frequently look down their noses at people who take shortcuts without looking at the reasons why shortcuts may be necessary.
Ollivander84 · 12/02/2018 22:28

Take - same! They were on offer and MN made me think I would try them. Decent with cheese and beans Grin

fluffiphlox · 12/02/2018 22:40

Frozen omelettes! This is a whole new world to me. I made a cheese omelette tonight. Took less than 5 minutes. Disability notwithstanding, I think these products must exist for people who don’t really care about food. Up to them I guess but crikey it sounds grim.

ZanyMobster · 12/02/2018 22:52

The McCain frozen jackets are nice if you oven cook them, they are gross if you microwave them. They take 55 mins so not much different to a normal potato but they go really crispy and always fluffy inside. I did try microwaving them and they were horrible

Notthenameiwant · 12/02/2018 23:22

Absolutely vile. Couldn't agree more. I cook a lot of these for my elderly clients. They love em. But tbh they do eat a lot of microwave bollocks. Dh tried them last week. I chucked them out vile vile vile. Even a 10 minute mico job with no oven crispining (of that's a word) would be better. Yuck.

I'm not personally bothered about having a super delicious spud

The point of jacket potato is that it's a quick meal that can be made in 8 mins (7 for the potato and 1 for the beans!) in the microwave. The point isn't that it's a delicious delicacy. It's that it's quick and functional. It's a low commitment meal for me by definition.
