To not really get Frugi clothes

Don't get me wrong they have some lovely clothes and nice prints, but they're just so expensive for what they are. I mean £21 for a single babygrow? Loads of my mum friends absolutely rave about them and fork out to dress their children exclusively in Frugi everything. Am I missing something?

Why can't people just dress their kids in proper fucking clothes

....such as?

Confused

I mean what are "proper" clothes?!

I don't really buy frugi but what a weird thing to say.

AveAtqueVale · 13/02/2018 11:39

Proper fucking clothes Grin. Capricorn am assuming you hate my DS2’s current outfit! Frugi vest I bought second hand - got 3 for £4 - and some tights from eBay.

I think he looks excellent, and this is one of my more sober combinations Wink.

However: I do not give one shiny shit how other people dress their children, providing their clothing is weather-appropriate and the child doesn’t look uncomfortable.

Visions of little babies dressed in miniature suits & pencil skirts Grin.

Honestly, if you can't wear colours and patterns as a small child, when can you wear them?

I can't stand garish colour, but I am not really sure what you mean by "proper clothes"?

It took me ages to realise that bright colours and weird combo were put on a child by design, and only because I read it on parenting forum. I always pictured parent or child rummaging through a pile of clean laundry and throwing the first things they could Grin. It would give me a headache to see my own kids like that, but it's just taste, there's nothing inappropriate in Fruggi. It's still better than kids in cheap polyester fancy dress or onesies used as real clothes.

Queuejumper · 13/02/2018 11:57

Pmsl, what are proper clothes? To me that means appropriate. To age, weather and activity. Pretty much any brand will have proper clothes by that token. Unless there is some criteria I'm missing? For a baby, warm, soft and comfy. For a toddler and up, hard wearing, comfy etc.

Isn’t this what most people do? Shock

Queuejumper · 13/02/2018 12:10

All that said,my kids are still in onesies. 😂 And will be until we go out later.

SaskaTchewan · 13/02/2018 12:11

ahem.. no, clothes are in their owner's wardrobe here, folded and easy to access. It makes our mornings peaceful, I can't imagine the chaos if any of us would need to rummage in a pile of to find something to wear.
It's a huge time saver and also reduces the need for ironing to the absolute minimum.

Why do people think that Frugi, Boden etc are the only kids clothes that last well, and that Primark and supermarket stuff falls to bits?

We've had various bits of Tu, Primark and George given to us as gifts over the years (new). My experience is after a few washes they lose their shape, and are bobbled and faded long before the child outgrows them. Yet I've bought Frugi and Scandi secondhand, and when DD outgrows them they are still bright, haven't lost their shape or stretched. Scandi brands like Maxomorra and JNY are cleverly designed; trousers and tops have ribbed cuffs so you can turn them up as the child grows. DD's 2.5 and still wearing the trousers she had at 16 months. They have adjustable waists and are soft and stretchy. Seams are well finished, labels don't scratch. They're designed for comfort and flexibility, unlike the rows of stiff jeans and 'trendy' clothes you find on the highstreet. I get most of my Scandi secondhand or from TKMaxx, and Frugi in the sales.

LaurieMarlow · 13/02/2018 12:31

To be fair, I think Tesco F&F is very decent for the price. Nice look and feel, materials are good, they wash very well.

RingFence · 13/02/2018 12:40

Downside is they look fucking atrocious. I hate babyish clothes with stupid animals and shit all over them anyway so I wouldn't be paying £20 for one babygrow that looks so Fucking terrible. Seriously that would set off a migraine for me. Why can't people just dress their kids in proper fucking clothes

What do you mean by proper clothes? Do you mean jeans and stiff trousers? Grey/brown/khaki? Breton stripes? Shirts with collars and buttons?
Small children love bright colours and jazzy patterns. They love cartoon animals on their clothes.

I hate seeing babies and toddlers dressed like mini adults. They need flexible, comfortable clothing they can play in.

HamishBamish · 13/02/2018 12:45

Why are people so bothered about how other people dress their children? It’s personal taste. If you don’t like it, don’t buy it. Some of the comments on this thread come across as very bitter.

SleepFreeZone · 13/02/2018 12:47

You can buy soft clothes from anywhere that sells kids clothes Hmm. You just buy the soft stuff and not the stuff stuff.

SleepFreeZone · 13/02/2018 12:47

*stiff stuff

SaskaTchewan · 13/02/2018 12:49

Clothes do help to know which kids, and which parents you can invite to your house to play with yours.

Grin. That's what it's all about Grin

BibbityBobbityBoob · 13/02/2018 13:17

@SaskaTchewan it's not clear whether you're judging people who judge people who put kids in supermarket or organic cotton brands, but I hope when DS is old enough to go on play dates they don't have the misfortune of encountering you.

Oh I love love the baby in rainbow tights!!!

I tell you what I don't like - Little kids in adult clothes - pleather jackets for example. Boak

Queenofthedrivensnow · 13/02/2018 13:28

Yeh I though saska post was pretty grim too. After 9 years of parenting I can't say I've paid much attention to what dds mates wear - except if it's really fabulous then I ask the patent where they got it - gold car ear alive band from new look was the latest one

SaskaTchewan · 13/02/2018 13:30

In real life, there are many people who will not invite kids in tracksuit bottoms or any other chavy clothes you know Grin

Wait until you do the school run and you start judging what the mums are wearing. Years of fun to be add.

Cherrycokewinning · 13/02/2018 13:36

It’s probbaky a bit true. In real life id probably be attracted to kids who had the whole white company/ trotters look going on.

I would probably be less inclined to make an effort with the bright colour clash frugi lovers because I’d pre judge them as breast feeding baby wearing lentil weavers and I find that tribe very dull (who still wants to be banging on about breastfeeding years after you’ve established it? Someone with nothing else to say for themselves) or the little man in flat cap and braves brigade (would judge them as probably not very smart for reasons I can’t quite articulate)

I can’t say these judgements would rule my life but there is little doubt they’d take place subconsciously in the background

Queenofthedrivensnow · 13/02/2018 14:08

I totally judge what the mums wear it's all try too hard ath leisure down here.

I try not to judge Little children

Redwineistasty · 13/02/2018 15:07

Grin saska I think you’re right, but no one wants to admit it.
People judge on both sides. It’s human nature
