Doctors won’t see me (saga continues)

Previous posts about severe anxiety, recurrent miscarriages.

Had a D&C on Wednesday. Yesterday had a raging temperature, coloured discharge and general unwell feeling. Rang EPU who said to make an emergency doctors appointment today re possible infection.

Got an emergency appointment today. Stuck in traffic for half an hour because road is covered in snow. Rang GP, stuck on phone for 20 minutes. Got told by a receptionist that “sorry you’re too late, we won’t see you”

I explained I had surgery on Wednesday and the ward thinks I have an infection, and wants me to see a dr today. “Sorry that’s our policy”. After much arguing, I asked if she’ll be personally responsible if I get sepsis to which she just quoted policy at me again.

AIBU to be fuming? I’m going down to the surgery and demanding to see the manager right now.

Paddingtons I’ve had four miscarriages in about 9 months.

Raised crp is to be expected if you’ve a mild infection. It’s a non specific marker of inflammation - it can be raised by all sorts of things; obesity, an infection, all the way through to serious conditions but in and of itself it doesn’t mean much. It’s a sign to look further iyswim

I also wouldn’t get too fixed on rheumatic causes. Most miscarriages do happen in the window you describe - it’s kind of a checkpoint time, so if the heart doesn’t start beating things don’t progress.
Recurrent miscarriage can have multiple causes. Also remember that even with four in a row it can still just be blind chance.

Now you’ve had several they will investigate. There are to many possible causes to speculate to be honest. You already have a child I think you said previously? If that’s the case and if you have the same partner then your chances of having another healthy child do improve quite a bit. It’s possible you’ve ‘just’ been very very unlucky.

But that’s for the future. Right now concentrate on getting back to full health before trying again. I know when I had my last mc it took roughly five months for my cycles to start to settle properly.

TheCatsPaws · 13/02/2018 12:18

Thank you. My DP is not DS biological dad, I was a single parent for a while but we have been together since DS was a baby. He worries he is the cause of the miscarriages as he has no children from previous relationships. He has had a sperm analysis and all was fine so we’ve been told it’s unlikely to be him.

OP posts:
Backenette · 13/02/2018 12:35

It’s possible you’ve just (and I don’t mean ‘just’ in any kind of it’s not awful way) had bad luck. A friend had four miscarriages in a row including one very late one at five months. Obviously she was devasted but no cause was ever found and she now has three strapping boys. It seems to have been chance.

Visual dperm analysis only tells you if there are enough sperm and they’re well shaped and moving ok. It’s possible you both have a recessive allele that’s increasing your miscarriage rate, or that there’s another issue. Impossible to tell without investigation which you should now receive.

They should do bloods and a full workup on both of you - hope you find out what’s going on. But first take some time to heal. 4 losses on such a short time will take its toll mentally and physically.

TheCatsPaws · 13/02/2018 12:38

They’ve sent this baby for karyotyping and said if anything shows up they’ll test us.

I’m having bloods done for clotting and they’re hopefully looking at endometriosis as well after me asking them for years to.

4 in 9 months Sad Flowers
How heartbreaking.
You are doing really well. There’s not many people who could cope with that.

Tomorrowillbeachicken · 13/02/2018 12:58

Have they tested you for pcos? I had multiple miscarriages before ds6 and it was soul destroying.

TheCatsPaws · 13/02/2018 13:00

Yes I’ve been tested for PCOS and I don’t have it. Thyroid is okay, no diabetes, nothing shows up in bloods. Haven’t had clotting checked.

Tomorrowillbeachicken · 13/02/2018 13:01

Oh ok. Just checking.

It’s a good suggestion, I thought I might have it due to painful periods and very dark hair on my arms and upper lip but my tests came back fine.

Tomorrowillbeachicken · 13/02/2018 13:03

It’s a bloody annoying syndrome tbh.

I am glad you have been seen, OP, and I am so sorry about your miscarriages Flowers

Aridane · 13/02/2018 13:33

Why don't you go to your pharmacy? Often they have prescribers who can give you antibiotics.

Sorry - but what is this about prescribers being at pharmacies? Does this mean I can rock up at Boots and get antibiotics without going to GP??

lilabet2 · 13/02/2018 13:48

OP glad you are being treated now.

draylon good for you. Not everyone feels like you - do you want a shiny badge? 🙄

The treatment of op on here has been horrendous. I’d say leaving 40 minutes early for a normally 20 minute journey in bad weather is sensible - but no one knows the variables, these things can be impossible to plan for. When ideally do you want her to leave - 3 hours before? 4? She’s at the mercy of other road users and her parents.

This is a woman with recurrent miscarriages, anxiety, and now an infection. Hope you all feel good about yourselves berating her.
^^

Totally agreed with the above and really hope you're ok OP.

JsOtherHalf · 13/02/2018 16:10

My pcos ( and endometriosis) only diagnosed by a laparoscopy and dye under general anaesthetic.

Hope you get the help and support you need.

SunnySkiesSleepsintheMorning · 13/02/2018 19:20

Draylon mentioned on another thread that she’s a health care professional. Worrying, really. Fortunately, most aren’t like that.

OP, hope you’re ok today. Flowers

Lime123 · 13/02/2018 19:37

Glad those bitchy comments got deleted. I can only think that some posters get a kick out of being deliberately spiteful to others.

Op I hope things will get better for you soon.

Headofthehive55 · 13/02/2018 19:37

adriane
Yes that's indeed what I mean. Lots if pharmacists are independent prescribers - ours is in our village so you can pop in and he can prescribe if you need something.

alotalotalot · 13/02/2018 20:09

Really? That might save long waits at the GP's. Why isn't this widely known?

Calledyoulastnightfromglasgow · 13/02/2018 21:43

Op just a thought - so mention the aspirin possibility if you can get referred. My friend had countless miscarriages and all tests clear and it was suggested she take daily aspirin as a last resort and it worked. They didn’t know why it worked but it did.

Hope you are on feeling a little better now xxx

Headofthehive55 · 13/02/2018 22:52

Because it's relatively new. Although our nurse at the surgery also can prescribe

HairyWorm · 14/02/2018 11:49

Glad to hear you're on the mend OP.
On the subject of Aspirin - after two early mcs I spoke to my Dr about taking low dose aspirin, (thinking that if she said no I'd do it anyway). She was really positive about it and a few months later i was pregnant with DD.
Good luck
