I need (would like) to lose a stone in a month. I know it’s not sustainable but, in an emergency, has anyone tried one that’s worked?x

2kids. What about a plain yoghurt for breakfast?

specialsubject · 12/02/2018 12:49

That should fuel her for an hour or so, less if it is a sugary low fat one.

Carbs are fuel.

2kidsnopets · 12/02/2018 12:53

I do like plain Greek yoghurt but for some reason thought that was a nono if low carbing.

ZBIsabella · 12/02/2018 12:57

Toss, look at redditketo which I think is one of the best sites for this.

idontlikealdi · 12/02/2018 13:05

Have a look at BiWis low car bootcamp it has all the info you need.

You can go low carb, low calorie and be hungry or

Low carb high fat and not be hungry. If you are properly 'low carbing' you need the fat to keep you full.

They're "terrible" but those shake plans where you eat basically nothing and go into ketosis are very very simple to follow (not easy to stick to but after a few days it's easier) and you lose like 4+lb per month!

Bluntness100 · 12/02/2018 13:08

Carbs are fuel

I think you've missed the point. Carbs are fuel if that's what your body is burning. In keto you're burning fat, so fat is fuel. Not carbs.

I can t low carb as I'm hypothyroid - my thyroid needs some carbs. I don't eat that much meat either - seems to me low carb is tough if you're not a carnivore! I have been slowly losing weight on moderate healthy carbs and protein, lowish fat, cutting out midweek booze and exercising 40 minutes a day 6 days a week. I'm pnly marginally overweight (but short) and need to lose another 4lbs for a healthy BMI.

loverofcake983 · 12/02/2018 13:17

I've been doing a low carb ( no pasta, no bread, no potatoes) for three weeks. So far lost half a stone. Lots of water to drink. crustless quiches and salads, meat and salad / some veg, fish and salad / veg. Weekends I struggle as not as organised as I am during the week but need to lose over 2 more stone so gonna keep plodding on :)

Birdsgottafly · 12/02/2018 13:34

"Nothing wrong with carbs, just eat less of everything (and move more)"

I'm at the point were my weight makes exercise difficult and joints painful. I need to lose a stone to be able to build up my exercise. Once I can exercise I will drop weight, as I loved the gym and used to go daily, before I had a serious illness.

I'm going to try low carb, I'm swapping my carbs for "no carbs/eat water" replacements. And giant mushrooms for bread.

We all get to the point of needing to lose weight for different reasons.

So am I, and I've seen no difference in bloods and dose going low-carb. I suppose it depends on how low carb you go though.

Me too, I've had no additional thyroid issues low carbing - I'm not sure why carbs would make a difference?

Jaygee61 · 12/02/2018 20:39

It does depend how low you go, very low carb (ketogenic) is not recommended, inhibits conversion of T4 into T3 apparently.

PinkAvocado · 12/02/2018 20:41

I lost the first stone in under a month doing slimming world.

wowfudge · 12/02/2018 20:48

Read The Blood Sugar Diet by Michael Mosley - it deals with lots of dieting myths and doesn't eliminate carbs all together although it is low carb. Lots of veg and some fruit in there. Use the 5:2 plan to maintain once you've lost weight.

TossDaily · 12/02/2018 22:28

Well, the omelette I had for breakfast kept me full until dinner at 6:30!

I had chilli - I did put kidney beans in it, but I had no rice or tortillas. Instead I had mine with green salad, avocado, spring onion and red pepper salad, soured cream and cheese.

It was very filling.

Idontdowindows · 12/02/2018 22:30

Carbs play a role in converting T4 (inactive) to T3 (active). Going low carb as in keto (under 30%, usually around 10%) means your body has issues converting.

I don't go under 30% carbs and try not to go over 35%, which is low carb compared to a "normal" diet, but not keto or paleo.

BrimFire · 12/02/2018 22:41

Do what works for you. Once I start eating I'm off. So I put off eating and then have something that's high flavour for brunch.
Then I don't snack and have dinner with no added carbs for dinner ( aubergines work well) and try and snack on low carb snacks if I'm peckish ( bored) in the evening.
Now in the 10's from the 12's and more aware of what I'm eating.
