I need (would like) to lose a stone in a month. I know it’s not sustainable but, in an emergency, has anyone tried one that’s worked?x

I need to join this thread. I'm going on holiday in the last week of March and would love to lose a stone.

When I split up with DH 2 years ago I lost 2 stone due to being miserable, but I've put 1 and a half of that back on.

TossDaily · 12/02/2018 10:27

I thought the low carb high fat thing meant you could have butter?

See, I'm confused already.

Chirpychop · 12/02/2018 10:40

You're right. You can have butter. It makes you feel full and is the basis of preventing cravings.

TossDaily · 12/02/2018 10:43

Ok, that's good.

10thingsIhateAboutTheDailyMail · 12/02/2018 10:44

Addicted to carbs....me too

I am also addicted to oxygen....

No-carb crash diets are not good for you, short term or long term.

Nothing wrong with carbs, just eat less of everything (and move more)

The brain can feel very unhappy without any carbs to burn, really, it is setting yourself up for a fail imo

FurryDogMother · 12/02/2018 10:45

Definitely have butter - it helps with satiation - not to mention flavour! Don't even think about doing low fat and low carb at the same time - that way lies misery, and part of the reason low carb works so well is that you can have indulgent foods like extra thick double cream, steaks, good cheeses and so on. have a look at the low carb bootcamp threads on here - loads of information there!

TossDaily · 12/02/2018 11:00

10things that's what I would normally say, but my carb consumption is truly out of control at the moment, and I feel I really need a re-set.

OldPony · 12/02/2018 11:08

I'm supposed to be meeting a friend to have sushi for lunch. So that's my first day of low carb fucked because of the rice. I can't eat the raw fish on it's own.

I'm going to try normal diet but lots of exercise and less, calories for a week and see what happens. Ben if I lose half a stone in a month I'll be happy.

Sammysquiz · 12/02/2018 11:13

Are you actually overweight? It’s easier to lose a stone if you actually have weight to lose, if you’re a size 10 and want to be a size 8 it’s a lot harder!

Idontdowindows · 12/02/2018 11:21

No/low carb is briliiant. High protein, expect to feel a bit "flu-ey" after 4-6 days but other than that, very satisfying way of eating.

I did about a stone in one month by eating that way and by then going to a maintenance "diet" (just being sensible with input and output really, I don't restrict anything) it has stayed off.

LoopyLou1981 · 12/02/2018 11:21

I’m 5ft6 and 12st (size 12/14). I think 11st gets me down to a ‘normal’ BMI. 10st is where I feel comfortable in clothes x

Try not to do a per day, but a per week. It's ok, to have more carbs today, as long as you don't go over your weekly allotment. It's an easier way to do the same thing :)

Using something like MyFitnessPlanner is really helpful, or even just getting a cheap exercise band/fitness watch thing and keeping track will help you learn what's what.

After a year or so you can very reasonably gauge portions and what's in them and it just becomes second nature.

TossDaily · 12/02/2018 11:23

I'm overweight, and getting ever more so.

OldPony · 12/02/2018 11:31

Ok great thanks. I'm going to have chicken Andy salad for dinner and enjoy my sushi for lunch.

Toss, it's so hard. It only takes a couple of pounds per year to creep on and then suddenly I'm a 2 stone overweight.

OldPony · 12/02/2018 11:31

Chicken and salad. Fuck knows who Andy is!

Idontdowindows · 12/02/2018 11:57

Probably the fellow making your salad Grin

2kidsnopets · 12/02/2018 12:13

What veg is one allowed when low carbing? And is any fruit ok?

Idontdowindows · 12/02/2018 12:17

Loads of veg is ok, like brocoli, mushrooms, courgette, chard, cauliflower etc. A good place to find recipes and tips is keto or paleo diet places (ignore the whole caveman evolution stuff, just go for the recipes).

Bodybuilding forums are also great places to find low carb recipes. It's amazing how much you can eat on a low carb diet :)

Bluntness100 · 12/02/2018 12:20

Toss, yes as others said, use butter, don't go low fat as well. You need the fats. Plus as a pp said, that way lies hell.

2kidsnopets · 12/02/2018 12:22

I think my issue with low carb would be that I don't like eggs and I don't really like meat apart from chicken and roast pork. I do eat beef in bolognaise etc but I don't really like processed meats eg ham.

Breakfast would be struggle as I'm trying to get two kids out and I really don't have time
To cook anything.

Bluntness100 · 12/02/2018 12:23

Agree, this is not a calorie counting diet. Yes, ultimately you do eat less cals because you're not hungry, but calorie counting and reducing fat is not the way to go.

DenPerry · 12/02/2018 12:26

I lose a stone per month easy on low carb...not atkins style with lots of eggs, cheese and meat but lots of chicken with stir fries, salad, veg type meals. Reduces my hunger too.

catlover1987 · 12/02/2018 12:30

Don't use fry light.it ruined my pans - god knows what it does to your insides!

Deshasafraisy · 12/02/2018 12:33

Jumping on too, I also need to drop a stone before spring. Has anyone noticed a change in their skin on low carb high fat diets? I’m prone to acne and worry I would break out on this diet.

Deshasafraisy · 12/02/2018 12:34

Catlover you can now get olive oil in a spray bottle to control the amount you eat. It’s way better.
