To hate pizza express and prezzo

I've been to both a few times and recently went to pizza express for lunch after not going for a while and it was crap as always.

I don't always choose to go if you're wondering why I keep going back Grinjust get dragged along there sometimes and think maybe if I just try something different I'll find something nice I might like it, but every time it's just boring and bland badly cooked food.

I don't understand the hype? And I do like Italian food there's a small Italian in my town but it's only open in the evenings hence why I didn't go there.

Aibu?

(And if I get dragged into there again what should I try next Grin)

I prefer Zizzi. If I had to choose though, it would be Pizza Express. I've had some incredibly shit meals at Prezzo.

Our local PE and Zizzi are right on the harbour and have some gorgeous views.

I think they're fine. Nice family restaurants, and you know what you're going to get.

The80sweregreat · 12/02/2018 11:51

Ask and PE are owned by the same people - the holding company is Chinese.
The dough is shipped in and frozen, the staff have to gauge how many to defrost for the day. They then can roll it out for the bases.
( worked in the back of our local one for a while) the desserts all come as catering packs - the mark up for those is enormous!

MarklahMarklah · 12/02/2018 12:52

Pizza Express works well for me as they offer a good vegan selection.

Givemestrengthorgin · 12/02/2018 12:54

I love pizza express but only go if I have an offer code. Too pricey for what it is without one.

I always get the carbonara pizza which I have to ask for with a nudge nudge wink wink as it's not actually on the menu. It's delicious!

Heliophilous · 12/02/2018 13:00

I like Pizza Express. It's not amazing but it is reliably decent food and DD likes the children's pasta dishes. I really like their tiny puddings with a coffee, too.

Prezzo is absolutely horrid. I have had some of the worst meals of my life there (PILs bizarrely keen).

The best chains are Carluccio's and Yo Sushi, IMO.

happymummy12345 · 12/02/2018 13:03

I love pizza express.
The food is great, the drinks are better Smile

misskatamari · 12/02/2018 13:04

I've not been to Prezzo but Pizza Express is fine as a reasonably priced family friendly place. We much prefer Pizza Hut tho! Bloody love that place!

MrsPreston11 · 12/02/2018 13:08

YABU - polla ad astra

MrsPreston11 · 12/02/2018 13:09

Prezzo I've tried twice though and been underwhelmed both times.

I feel like it's trying to be posher than PE but the food and service have been way worse than we get in PE.

TheFaerieQueene · 12/02/2018 13:13

I don’t go any more to pizza express. I go to a small independent pizzeria run by lovely Italians.

I have very fond memories of pizza Express in Richmond, Surrey, in the 1970’s. My parents used to take me there when I was v young. It was a wonderful small chain then, not the mega business it is now. 😌

franktheskank · 12/02/2018 13:32

Oh wow I didn't realise there'd be this many replies Grin

I just think it's shit. Most chain restaurants are.

Maybe it's because I can cook quite well I find it hard to find somewhere normal that I can eat and think "this is nicer than anything I could make" that's not a boast, i just think once you learn to cook properly fast food and generic restaurants seem rubbish in comparison whereas before they seemed like a treat.

In what universe is Frankie and Benny's nicer than Pizza Express? It is garbage.

OutyMcOutface · 12/02/2018 13:45

The hype is in having cheap, not disgusting food in a child friendly environment.

HRTpatch · 12/02/2018 13:47

Thank god I no longer have small children Grin

Ski4130 · 12/02/2018 14:22

Each of our dc's have Prezzo, Zizi and Pizza Express as their 'favourite', so every birthday they choose to go to their respective favourite. It all tastes identical, but they love it. I prefer Bill's for chain restaurant dining, at least there's some variety on the menu, but whilst the dcs are choosing Prezizi's Express it is :-)

waterlego6064 · 12/02/2018 14:25

frank, yes, I definitely agree with that. I used to think of that sort of meal out as a treat but wouldn’t really now! Partly because I’ve got better at cooking, I think.

waterlego6064 · 12/02/2018 14:25

Frankie and Bennie’s is rank.

franktheskank · 12/02/2018 14:44

Frankie and bennys really is ridiculously bad, I don't know how they are even still open!

OP posts:
NoWordForFluffy · 12/02/2018 14:56

I'm a really good cook, actually. I still don't mind PE on the odd occasion.

heron98 · 12/02/2018 15:04

I went to Pizza Express earlier this year for the first time.

It was truly shit. Rubbish, over-priced pizza and horrible atmosphere.

Floralnomad · 12/02/2018 15:46

My family etc tell me I’m a good cook but I still enjoy lunch out a couple of times a week although my risotto is definitely better than the one I had in Ask last week .

jay55 · 12/02/2018 15:55

Frankie and Bennys is great for a cheap weekend breakfast.

robertaplumkin · 12/02/2018 16:00

pizza express is an obscene rip off. my h loves it but we both agree every time we pay the bill we feel like we are being mugged so we have stopped going. prezzo is 🤷‍♀️ i would pick zizzi for preference from that category.

LilaBlue · 12/02/2018 16:13

Prezzo is as cheap as chips and pizza express isn't bad value either.

Cheap quick and filling, winner for me.

llangennith · 12/02/2018 17:45

Go to Iceland (shop) and buy Dr Oerkert (sp?) pizzas. £1.50 each and much nicer than in Pizza Express.
