To expect reassurance this man has not been near our DC?

DC are in a local scout group. There is a Facebook group for parents, for checking times, places, lost property and so on.

Last night a scout parent posted a link to a local newspaper article about a scout leader in another local group being found guilty and sentenced for making and possessing images/films of children. They asked had this man been around our DC? There were quickly several other comments of outrage and concern. We did recognise the photo and have seen him at parades, competitions and camps.

There was one reply from a leader. Saying there should not be a witch hunt and for the group leader to decide if this post should stay on the page. It was shortly after deleted.

AIBU to think an email should have been sent to address this?

I have just read the newspaper article. I am not sure anything the leaders say would make me feel better about the situation.

I don't think they do. Most normal people think what you do is incredible (or are completely oblivious to what you actually have to do to make that magic happen). Only a few pathetic, ignorant people hold vicious views like we've seen on here. These people probably never leave the house in case they encounter one of the 66 million paedophiles that they think live in the UK!

I agree you should contact the district commissioner. Your group don't seem to have handled it all that well.

Thank you InToMyHeart, we both volunteer to help our community and young people gain fantastic experiences.

I think everyone should volunteer at least 1 hour to appreciate how hard it is.

Op if you really need to be reassured then ring Gilwell and they wil be able to help you. Please be assured that the scouts safeguarding system is very strict and no leader would ever be allowed to be left alone with the young people. We operate a very strict 2 adults minimum at all times.
