Washing machine AIBU

Posting for traffic - sorry!

I’m living with the relatives at the moment, and last week they left to go on holiday to a long-haul destination (very far away) for two weeks.

The night before they left, they put a wash on. When the wash finished, they couldn’t open the washing machine to get the clothes out, so the clothes are still in there.

They asked me to try to open the machine door again after they left, and I couldn’t get the door open. The door handle sort of detaches from the machine, if that makes sense, and doesn’t hold firm when I try to open the door.

I spoke to them about it, and they’ve said they don’t want me to call anyone out to have a look at the machine as it’ll be complicated for them to arrange, and expensive. That’s fair enough, but I’ll be without a washing machine for the whole next two weeks.

I put another wash cycle on now, just to see if the door might open after the cycle finished, but I still couldn’t get it open. It’s an Indesit washing machine, if that’s makes any difference.

I can of course take my clothes to a laundrette, but it’ll cost £15. I’ll probably have to.

AIBU to:
a) feel a bit frustrated at my relatives?
b) ask you for your advice on what i should do?

And the machine itself will stink to high heaven.
I wouldn't want to wash anything in it for a while.

Every front loader has a way of manually opening the door, as I found out a few weeks ago, go on line and there's bound to be a youtube video, our was inside the door that has the filter, a Miele.
Opening the door doesn't solve your problem though, if the machine's damaged then you still won't be able to use it or it would be a gamble so it looks like a trip to the launderette or find someone who will let you use their's.

I found a way of opening it from YouTube, by attaching a piece of string to a couple of pieces of metal. But you’re right, it doesn’t solve the problem.

this may be a daft suggestion, but has the water drained out of it? Occasionally my washer doesn't drain and the door won't open. I have to manually turn the switch to the water drain option, then once that has finished, the door will open. The clothes in in will no doubt need washing again by now (mine usually need an extra spin if this happens).

It's going to cost them more to replace their mouldy and rotting clothes after they've been left for two weeks than it would to hire a workman to come out now.

Not to mention the smell OP has to live with in the meantime! Yuck!
