Won't give me another wheelie bin...

ThisLittleKitty · 11/02/2018 15:30

Bins here are collected weekly. EVERY Sunday without fail my wheelie bin is full. (There collected Thursday) several times local cats (I believe) have managed to get the bags out the wheelie bin as they are open with the bags on top because they are over flowing. Anyway these cats will rip out all my rubbish so the garden will be covered. I called the council and asked for another wheelie bin as several neighbours have more than one of the same colour top bins. I was told I wasn't allowed another one and the ones the neighbours had were "obviously stolen!" Aibu to not see why I can't have another one. And before any one suggests I recycle more I do I recycle everything that can be and I have no car to go to a tip.

Your mum sounds thick as fuck.

So tell me OP what actually happens to you if someone notices you wearing the same jumper? Does the jumper disintegrate off your body?

safariboot · 12/02/2018 13:40

The OP's laundry is completely off-topic here.

DonnyAndVladSittingInATree · 12/02/2018 13:50

It’s actually perfectly within topic. OP is producing too much waste. Part of that waste will be washing powder boxes, fabric softer bottles etc. She is washing 21 times a week. That’s a lot of large bottles and boxes from a source that could easily be reduced.

drspouse · 12/02/2018 13:55

NotCitrus you should like you do need a wheelie bin lock.

berryferry · 12/02/2018 14:28

. So squish everything up as much as you want; just don't put in any cardboard that's food for soaked into it (like pizza delivery boxes

Hmmm that's not the case here, we put our cardboard in the same big bin as our food waste!

Everyone has different lives, parents and ways of being brought up. Being cruel and chastising them for it isn't going to help anyone.

Blondeshavemorefun · 12/02/2018 14:33

to be fair, we struggle/have full bin tho collected fortnightly and 2adults and toddler in nappies

but once a week would be great and wouldnt struggle

we recycle cardboard/paper in bins which gets collected fortnightly as well,

so one weekblackbin, household, one week green cardboard etc

they dont recycle tins or plastic,so 4 pints of milk plastic etc goin normal bin

amazon is rubbish at the amount of packaging they send stuff in

clothes - i wear things onceand wash, apart from jumpers etc

but dont do 2/3washes a day

do 3/4 a week

I agree.
What do posters get out of ganging up and making fun of someone in this way? It's unlikely to encourage people to recycle more.
I'm sure the OP wasn't the only one who didn't understand how cardboard was recycled. She's probably helped loads of people be a bit more informed by posting.

I’d love to know what happens to you if someone notices that you’re wearing the same clothes as yesterday. What happens? Do the clothes fall off you?

We are a family of 6, 5 of us adult size (3 mid/late teens).

We have one small non recycling wheelie bin and two large recycling wheelies which are emptied every 2 weeks. The non recycling bin is just about full on collection day and the recycling ones, we have to get one of the DSs to jump in to push them down several times!

We also have a food bin which makes me boak. It can be filled from the veg prep from one roast dinner. Would be very happy just to chuck it in normal bin but it's made a massive difference in the amount of times the kitchen bin needs to be emptied.

YABU.

DonnyAndVladSittingInATree · 12/02/2018 17:59

Same incident came to mind with me too. That model was in court for that wasn’t she?

DonnyAndVladSittingInATree · 12/02/2018 18:04

Those saying the food bin makes them boke, did it make you boke when you were putting the food scraps in your normal kitchen bin? Because it’s exactly the same, just a different receptacle and usually much smaller so emptied more often than the kitchen bin.

My problem with food waste was that is had to go into the brown bin unwrapped. In the middle of summer unwrapped food waste will always end up with maggots.
If I put food into my kitchen bin that has a liner, so before it goes into the grey bin it's tied and sealed. Any waste going directly into the grey bin gets wrapped and sealed. I do not want a repeat of the great maggot invasion of 2002.

DonnyAndVladSittingInATree · 12/02/2018 19:53

You can use biodegradable liners in your food waste caddy and in your outside food waste bin.

spiney · 12/02/2018 19:55

We get Council issue green biodegradable bin liner bags for our ' indoor' caddy. Fill this up ( easily done - about 2x a day here) and out goes the bag into the brown outdoor caddy for weekly collection. Really easy system.

How awkward it must be without those caddy liners?! Must be a PITA sisters. Not user friendly at all.

spiney · 12/02/2018 19:56

Sorry, talking about food waste.

SistersOfPercy · 12/02/2018 19:59

I did mention this upthread. When we switched to those our brown bin was refused for collection. Speaking to the council I was told that whilst they aren't banned as such the waste collectors would most likely refuse to empty them every time if they saw them in there as they hadn't the time to find out if they were biodegradable or now.

Our whole system is ridiculous though tbh. Grey for general, blue for cardboard and tins, brown for garden waste and food. Brown only collected for half the year. Madness.

Hopefully we're moving this year and the area is a different council with a much more user friendly system.

Nomorechickens · 12/02/2018 20:01

Use your food waste bin. Fold / squash / stack / compress all your rubbish before throwing it in the bin. Try to avoid goods with too much packaging. Make sure you and the rest of the family are recycling everything possible.

DonnyAndVladSittingInATree · 12/02/2018 20:01

Oh well thats shite then!! Ffs. So can you not even line the large food wheelie bin with a biodegradebale one? Urgh. I line mine and use a little liner in the caddy and it makes a real difference to the state of the bin and the smell.
