So I've lost abit of weight last year and still have some to go. I've dieted to the extreme before and generally have a really poor relationship with food. I'm aiming for healthy and happy. Expect weight loss to come slow and steady which it is. I normally eat really well during the week and let myself eat whatever I've been craving, but not an out and out binge to the point I hate myself. I've got family coming round on tues which I'm really looking forward to but it's going to mess up my routine. I'm scared that if I'm thinking this way I may be slipping back to old habits where I avoid social functions because it messes up my diet but at the same time I just want to enjoy the company of people and some food that isn't califlower rice so maybe I'm developing a normal relationship with food and it's not that big of a deal and the world isn't going to end

They are vile so I never eat them anyway !

Couple of banana/sweet potato ones with savoury fillings like bacon and onion. An apple and honey one for pudding? That's like a meal...

Birdsgottafly · 11/02/2018 15:20

"I'm guessing some PPs either haven't realised that OP said she's dieted to extreme before and doesn't have a healthy relationship with food"

Yes they know, they are just enjoying being able to give a twatty answer.

Large numbers of posters hate the Overweight/obese, but if they ask for help or support, those are the answers they get.

The hard part about needing to lose weight the occasions were we (all) celebrate with food that is high in calories, but doesn't fill us up.

Watch the science shows about fat and sugar, it is explained again and again why not just being able to "have one" is very difficult for someone dieting.

RunningOutOfCharge · 11/02/2018 15:21

I'm just going to eat and enjoy my pancakes....then run a few miles afterwards

Probs just a 5 miler

Then might make more!

DullAndOld · 11/02/2018 15:27

well have two or three then..
I do not have the best relationship with food, but went from a size 18 to a size 12 by eating less in general.
therefore if I 'fell off the wagon' and ate a cake or whatever, then I would just continue with eating less for another while. Its not about 'falling off the wagon'.

LyingWitchInTheWardrobe2726 · 11/02/2018 15:31

Birds, I'm guessing the 'twatty posts' on sensitive subjects like this isn't just that those posters like to give shitty answers, it's that they absolutely have to do that so they can feel a bit better about themselves, possibly they're not happy with their own bodies? Either way, no need for venom on a thread where somebody's asking for a bit of advice about pancakes!

I don't think I've had once since I was a kid - strawberry jam was what I had, my brothers had that and sugar. They were nice then (the pancakes), I wonder whether they'd taste the same now? :)

Twillow · 11/02/2018 15:32

Its just a pancake, hardly high-fat food with a bit of lemon and sugar is it? Or are you really saying you won't be able to resist loading it with Nutella and squirty cream??

floriad · 11/02/2018 15:34

Savoury and fruity ones of dinner?

I love pancakes with mushrooms, meat or creamy spinach

Qvar · 11/02/2018 15:36

I love pancakes and have decided that I am having 1 hour "OFF" my diet on Tuesday evening.

now, I'm not sure exactly how many pancakes I can eat in 1 hour, but I do know that a time liimit is better than a calorie limit.

I'm going to make sure I eat a lot of chicken vegetable stirfry before I start on the pancakes, so I don't eat 3 for hunger. I want to enjoy every single one.

I'm planning on having sugar and lemon, and maybe some tinned fruit in syrup. I don't like chocolate (how DID I get so fat!?) but I am considering some squirty cream

loveka · 11/02/2018 15:36

Have a look at Anna Jones' breakfast pancakes. Also Jamie Oliver in his superfoods books.

Basically, banana, oat flour, egg and blueberries make delicious panckes. I put maple syrup on because I love it. But you can make a sauce with just blueberries which is lovely.

If you love food but need to lose a bit of weight the Jamie Oliver books are very good, as they are all about health.

BookHelpPlease · 11/02/2018 15:39

Do banana pancakes with some dark chocolate grated on. Make only enough batter for what you want to eat so say 2 pancakes. Enjoy them.

DanglyEarOrnaments · 11/02/2018 15:41

Am just going to ignore it!

Eveforever · 11/02/2018 15:41

Looking at healthy pancake recipes, such as banana pancakes are a good idea. Also, depending on how your mind works, would giving yourself permission to have one day off of your diet work for you? Or would arranging to eat some pancakes out somewhere, which means you would presumably only eat a smallish portion instead of having the ingredients to make another thirty at home, help you keep from binging?

halfwitpicker · 11/02/2018 15:42

Just pretend you live abroad and it isn't pancake day?

MiddlingMum · 11/02/2018 15:43

My method is to eat a couple with syrup, berries and chocolate sauce. Then go for a 6 or 7 mile run.

However, pancakes are optional, there's no need to eat them if you don't want them.

Bluntness100 · 11/02/2018 15:47

I think what I would take from this is we all have different triggers. For many it's Xmas day, or maybe a birthday meal, for the op pancake day is a big one.

Op, either give yourself one day off then get back on the horse, or limit yourself to one or two, and don't castigate yourself, just get straight back on it. It won't do any harm in thr long run.

EmotionalSupportTortoise · 11/02/2018 15:47

Mulch I am in recovery from compulsive eating and a sort of Binge ED and I understand where you are coming from. I don't diet but I am on a food plan with OA, a 12 step group for people with food issues, where I eat 3 meals per day and try to abstain from white flour, refined sugars and anythign else which makes me binge. Quite a long list of trigger foods for me. We in OA often use the maxim One Day at A Time. We take one day at a time - we plan our food in advance as far as is possible but we do not worry about the next day or the day after that. We focus on each day, at a time, each hour at a time, if needed (some days it seems I get cravings every 20 mins). We then reach out to someone else in OA like a sponsor who can help us manage these cravings and why we feel the urge to binge eat or eat something sugary to comfort ourselves.

MrsDilber · 11/02/2018 15:47

I'd have a couple, with fruit, for dinner. I know where you're coming from. If they're being made for your DC, they're there, in the house. I'm pretty much an all or nothing person, so I get the binging thing.

Hairgician · 11/02/2018 15:49

Protein pancakes

2 or 3 eggs, 1 mashed banana and 2 scoops protein. Blend all up to a batter and cook in the same way. Delish!

EmotionalSupportTortoise · 11/02/2018 15:50

So for me Mulch I have planned to treat P Day like any other day. Sticking to my plan. It is not easy. And I have to avoid the aisles in shops where Nutella, Jif etc are sold. It is horrible but I need to do it.

I could "legally" on my plan have a buckwheat or wholewheat flour pancake but I just feel even with that, if I eat one, I will want 12 more.

GatoradeMeBitch · 11/02/2018 15:51

It's passed us by. And will continue to because I can't make them without setting the smoke alarm off.

starzig · 11/02/2018 16:03

Pretend it's not pancake day??? I never realise anyway. Even so I ain't starting to cook pancakes at 10.00 at night after I get home and have dinner

PickleFish · 11/02/2018 17:22

I know what you mean. I struggle with controlling it once I've let myself have even one of something.

I'd like to hear more about these low-carb pancakes. Surely even banana ones are mostly carb? I'm not keen on too many eggs if it makes it taste like omelettes!

I worry about allowing even small amounts of sugar and fruit and so on, let alone honey or syrup or drizzles of chocolate - doesn't even that still mean you're back to high blood sugar again and have to start the whole process over for a bit to get rid of cravings and stuff? This low-carb stuff would be much more doable if there were more chances for occasional (very occasional!) days off!!

Mulch · 11/02/2018 18:02

I'm going to treat it as a test. A chance to see where I really am. Hoping to eat normally for the day. Enjoy a reasonable amount and not go on a crazy restriction or feel the need to go crazy exercising. If anything along those lines happen I know where I am in regards to recovery. It's just to easy to fuck it and avoid.

meredintofpandiculation · 11/02/2018 18:19

It seems to me people are answering the wrong question. You're not asking "how can I cope with Pancake Day and fit it into my diet" , you know perfectly well how to do that.

What you're asking is how to eat sensibly on Pancake Day without then wanting to go back to unhealthy reactions like over exercising.

Have I understood right?
