I usually use a small amount as a moisturiser and love it. Last night i rubbed some into my hair and scalp and left it on overnight. Id actually forgotten this morning, had my usual shower and dried my hair.....

I've never seen my hair look as good, so soft and shiny. No more expensive conditioners for me. Smile
Thought i'd just share it with you all, i don't suppose i'm the only one who loves coconut oil. Does anyone else want to share the benefits of this wonderful stuff?

I hate it on my skin, very heavy and greasy.

However my pro-tip is to use it in a Hummingbird Cake instead of Vegetable Oil. Smile

Ooh. Now you’re talking.

Buzz product which is actually a bit naff.

TenancyTroublesAgain · 07/02/2018 15:53

@FluffyWuffy100 the OP said no more expensive conditioners for them, meaning £2.99 is cheaper than the cost of their usual conditioner. Not every conditioner.

CurcubitaPepo · 07/02/2018 15:55

I have very dry flakey skin on my face. Could it work for me as a moisturiser??

derekthe1adyhamster · 07/02/2018 15:55

Nope brings me out in cystic acne. On my scalp and anywhere my hair touches my face (Actually all oil does, buying cosmetics is a nightmare. Castor oil is in everything it would seem!)

IfyouseeRitaMoreno · 07/02/2018 15:56

I used to put it on my hair but it made me look like a greasy chip.

Vitalogy · 07/02/2018 16:11

I use it as a body moisturiser. Found it a bit too greasy for the face, so I use almond oil for face. I will have to try it on my hair.

*I have noticed my skin is softer.

lookingforthecorkscrew · 07/02/2018 16:44

Well I haven't washed it off my hair yet but my hair feels like it might have if I hadn't washed it for a week when I was 14.

Yes but don't forget, you don't use it like a conditioner. In the jar it's solid, you just dig a little out and it melts as you run it through your hair. Then leave it overnight. It would easily last over a year.

But won't your pillow be covered with oil if you put it on your hair and leave it on over night?

borderline11 · 07/02/2018 17:05

Use a towel, or an old pillowcase.

My husband buys this from the cooking oil aisle. I now buy two jars, one for him and one for me to use after bath or shower but not on face. £2.25 for 500ml.

Tighnabruaich · 07/02/2018 17:08

I meant to say - he was buying it to cook with. He doesn't slather it on himself!

PurpleDaisies · 07/02/2018 17:10

It doesn’t do anything for me either, unless you count sending me back to really spotty, greasy teenager.

MongerTruffle · 07/02/2018 17:15

Health benefits of coconut oil (BBC News)

Rebeccaslicker · 07/02/2018 17:17

I can't bear the smell or taste of coconut :(

Troels · 07/02/2018 17:34

The Coconut oil I buy has no smell or taste, it's food grade, so your could cook with it and not have coconut flavoured eggs for instance.
I don't eat it, but do blend it 50/50 with Pure shea butter and use it on my hair dry curly I leave it overnight and it's much more managable, When on holiday at the beach in hot sun I use it on my skin too and that stays nice and soft too.
I have tried rubbing it on my teeth can't bring myself to pull it blergh my teeth did seem whiter and co workers commented on it, I hadn't told them what I was doing just to see if it was noticible.

MorganKitten · 07/02/2018 18:22

I have psoriasis and it’s the best thing for it!
I also take the coconut oil tablets – really helps digestion.
A tip, if you struggle to get it out off your hair when washing it, put the shampoo on before you get your hair wet, comes out straight away.

crackerjacket · 07/02/2018 18:38

Can it be used on greasy hair? I guess not.

lookingforthecorkscrew · 07/02/2018 19:08

Well, I just shampooed it out and conditioned. Hair still knotty though. Doesn't feel any different.

Motoko · 07/02/2018 22:21

You're meant to leave it on overnight, and not use a conditioner.

lookingforthecorkscrew · 08/02/2018 09:16

I used conditioner because it felt like a hay bale after shampooing. I'd never have got a brush through it otherwise. And I left it on for a good 5 hours.

borderline11 · 08/02/2018 14:01

I wouldn't stop using conditioner, it's just that i'm no longer going to buy dear ones, which i used to do now and again when my hair dries out completely. I've not washed my hair today but it's still lovely and shiny. Surprised it's not made a difference to your hair corkscrew
