Google maps - lanes? I'm so nwrvpis

Does Google maps tell you which Lane to be in etc - I'm driving in RPI tomorrow and I'm nearly I'll with worry - I'm such a nervous driver! Tia for your help

And no, google doesn't tell you which lane to use 🤔

Have you only just passed your test? Maybe get some more practice with another driver in the car before you venture out alone.

Only when the road spilts or your turn-off is coming up.

You should be in the left lane apart from when overtaking. I mean this kindly, but are you sure you should be driving if you don’t know what lane you should be in?

It will tell you to keep left or keep right.

But no matter what you are alway best just using it as a guide and following road signs and markings.

RPI?

You shouldn't be relying on a sat nav/google maps, or you'll become unstuck with roadworks etc.

sorry that should read ROI ie Republic of Ireland - I have been driving for about 6 years but I am extremely nervous.

there is something on google saying that it will actually tell you which lane etc to be in (I normally stick to the left hand lane, ie slow lane). Im awful at motorway driving, hence my worry. A relative is very ill and I need to drive to them or i wouldnt risk it.

Stick in the left hand lane.
Our car sat nav will tell you in plenty of time if you need to change lanes to join or exit a motorway, or if it's a roundabout with lots of lanes.
I'm sure Google does too if you tell it where you are going, but it's been a while since I used it.

I live in Ireland, it's the same rules over here. Keep to the left lane apart from overtaking. Where are you driving from/to?

There aren't many motorways and apart from the M50 around Dublin, they're pretty easy to navigate.

Speed limits are in Kilometres not miles. The speed limit on the M50 is 100kph/mph on other motorways it is 120kph/75mph.

The Google maps sat nav tells you what lane to get in at junctions.

I know the feeling. I've driven for a few years, and the lanes thing is still what makes me nervous. Not on ordinary roads or ordinary roundabouts, but the complicated junctions or roundabouts where stuff is painted on the road, you can't see it easily in advance, you have so many signs pointing everywhere, the lines on the roundabout aren't clear which one goes where, the paint has worn off, there are local conventions, etc etc. I get really stressed when driving somewhere new.

I often drive the route virtually on google earth first, and try to see the junctions and signs and lane markers for the complicated ones.

That's exactly what I do Pickle - familiarise myself with large roundabouts on google earth before I travel so that I know which lane goes where.

is there a hard and fast rule with roundabouts, ie can you always just stay in the left lane.

im nearly ill with nerves, im driving from Belfast.

Can you get there via public transport?

Seriously if your having to ask about how to use a roundabout then with the added stress of an ill releative I really don’t think driving is wise.

i cant, I have someone with me who needs regular stops.

i can use a roundabout - I am just very nervous.

No! You can't just stay in the left lane on roundabouts. You must select the appropriate lane according to your exit.

Do they not have roundabouts in NI?

It’s just big roundabouts with multiple lanes?

I do the Googlemaps/google earth driving virtually thing. And remind myself if I do get in the wrong lane then it just means having to let the Sat Nav reroute and turn me around.

Feeling nervous driving is pants. I sympathise.

I understand you’re nervous but if you can use roundabouts then you’ll know you can’t just stay in the left lane!

You sound extremely nervous over what really is a very simple journey. Maybe for the future you should have some more lessons to improve your confidence.

Also, how competant is your passenger? Can they navigate for you to make it easier?

i normally only drive to places that I have already been with a passenger beside me to direct me if you get what I mean. I actually passed my test first go - 2 faults only. I was involved in a bad car accident in childhood and couldnt drive until I was in my 30's I was so nervous in a car.
