To stick with my budget moisturiser?

In town yesterday looking at some of the fancy beauty counter moisturizers, I was tempted to buy a fancy number at £26...

But then this morning looking at my skin, it's not dry (been drinking more water which seems to make a huge difference amd don't drink alcohol), nor do I have any spots.

I'm just using the nivea soft one with vit E and jojoba, mixed in with a wee bit of suncream, was 2 or 3 pounds.

But the shiny packaging and lovely smelling potions were tempting...they're just a marketing con aren't they? convince me not to spend £26Grin

Not worth it all but if you have lots of cash going spare then you could always try it out and see what you think.

duriandurian · 04/02/2018 10:42

I have always spent a fortune as I have always had dreadful skin. If your skin is lovely without anything special then I wouldn't bother at all.

buddhasbelly · 04/02/2018 10:44

The cash would definitely be better spent elsewhere, if it didn't love up to my overhyped imagination of wonderment, I would just see £26 every time I looked at the jar!

Randomly as part of my job I was looking at the average beauty product spend per annum. It's near on a grand! Shock (includes hair care and will have some outliers who spend waaay more than that but still, I was Shock, until I saw the £26 moiusturiser of course Wink)

What you are using sounds great. I was a massive fan of Body Shop's brown tinted cocoa butter suntan lotion and would slap that on daily as 'foundation', but they don't make it any more.
Personally, I think the no alcohol thing is terrific for skin.
Non-boozer here, and have very few lines on the face in comparison with contemporaries.
Save the £26 and splurge it on something else instead.

OwdBets · 04/02/2018 10:54

I get the hyaluronic moisturizer from Lidl for about £3.
It’s as good as those I’ve paid dear for.

falsepriest · 04/02/2018 10:54

They're probably all made in the same factory at the same time on the same production line, then branded between expensive tat and cheapo tat. If it works; it works! :D

OverTheParapet · 04/02/2018 10:54

I've used a massive price range of moisturisers and my skin doesn't look any better for the pricey ones! Mascara for me is the thing to pay extra on!

buddhasbelly · 04/02/2018 10:59

My mascara is about to run out Wink

I've also ended up sticking with a pound shop eyebrow pencil, does the job the same as the expensive one that I had decided would turn me into cara dele whats her name...I don't even think that look would suit me Blush

I'm all for budget moisturiser. When u was younger and earning much more money, I spent FORTUNES on high end skincare thinking that the higher the price the better the product. I think that a good cleanser is important though ( I use lid Earle c and p) but use good old Aldi moisturiser day and night and I'm told my skin's good for my age (44)

Bluesheep8 · 04/02/2018 11:03

When I was younger!!!

cornishmumtobe · 04/02/2018 11:05

Honestly if your skin is great with the cheaper stuff I seriously wouldn't bother. Spend the £26 on something much nicer. The novelty very quickly wears off with fancy creams!

Littlelambpeep · 04/02/2018 11:08

Sounds like if it isn't broke - no need to fix. Treat yourself to the decent mascara

coffeeclouds · 04/02/2018 11:10

I use Aveeno baby moisturiser on my face Grin Have tried expensive creams and loads make me break out (sensitive skin and roascea) so I'll be sticking to my cheapy that doesn't.

eggncress · 04/02/2018 11:11

Lidl one with hyaluronic acid for me ... having tried and tested some high end ones. It’s by far the best for my skin. I buy it in bulk cos I dread the day they discontinue it Grin

Bigfatchips · 04/02/2018 11:13

I love that Nivea soft moisturiser. Certainly does the job for me.

grannytomine · 04/02/2018 11:14

You could try QVC. I wondered the same and got some expensive stuff from them, tried it for 4 weeks and decided it made no difference. Sent it back and got my money back. They do 30 day no quibble return as standard. It was a nice experiment and the fancy stuff did smell nice but not worth the money.

grannytomine · 04/02/2018 11:14

I use Aveeno as well coffeeclouds. It is really soothing.

Appuskidu · 04/02/2018 11:15

I use Astral at night -it’s so lovely. I can almost feel my skin go, ‘aaaahhhh!’ when I put it on! It’s cheap as chips!

I have been using the Body Shop Vitamin C skin reviver during the day as it’s lovely and light but it’s just run out. I will be looking at this thread for inspiration! I do like things that smell nice though! DD has been using a Velvet nourishing cream from Sephora that she bought on holiday last year and it smells amazing! I can’t get it over here though :(

Appuskidu · 04/02/2018 11:16

Lidl one with hyaluronic acid for me

Can someone please take a photo of this to show me?!

IggyAce · 04/02/2018 11:18

Save the money and book yourself a beauty treatment instead.

Jaygee61 · 04/02/2018 11:18

I’ve always felt strongly that there is nothing an expensive face cream can do that a budget one can’t do just as well. If they worked there’d be no demand for face lifts.

I use Olay Provital day (spf 15) and night creams, rrp is £10 each but they are so often on offer at half price that I never pay that, just buy whenever it is on offer. Grin

Fosterdog123 · 04/02/2018 11:20

Save your money. Creams don't work. Put it towards the Botox you'll need want, once you hit your mid 40s!!

Lonesurvivor · 04/02/2018 11:24

You're paying extra for the anti aging ingredients, what you have is a basic moisturiser which is doing it's job of moisturising but it's not doing any anti aging prevention or treatment which is fine if you're happy with that.
I have great skin and got away with doing very little anti aging until my late 30s. When the fine lines started appearing I upped my game. I've no doubt if I hadn't I'd still have good skin for my age but I've better skin because I did.
It's completely your choice but both aging skin care does work there's no point writing it off.
Check out The Ordinary range for very very affordable products but you'll need to do lots of research to figure out where to start.

wizzler · 04/02/2018 11:26

I have tried a fair few of the pricey ones, but in the end I prefer the boots own brand for my face, and the vaseline with aloe vera for the rest of me. Both are often on offer.
