To want a hoover that actually works on cat hair and doesn’t cost the earth?

I have two hoovers, the latest specifically marketed as for animal fur, but they are both rubbish! Do I have to spend hundreds of pounds?!

Used to have the Miele cat and dog but it wasn't great for us now have a Roomba and it's brilliant (didn't expect it to do cat hair but it does) got it on offer in Black Friday deals

I've got a Dyson cord free 'animal' model, and a grey and white rag doll cat. The Dyson does the job ok, but I wouldn't recommend it as it's just so needy! It blocks or breaks down at the drop of a hat, and doesn't hold its charge very well either. Next time I'm going to buy a Shark as recommended by others on this thread

Ontheboardwalk · 04/02/2018 17:51

I’ve just purchased a Shark on the back of this thread. I'll let you know what it’s like.

It’s got to be better than my current hoovers (Bosch and Dyson animals)

I listened to advice on here and got a Miele - it was shockingly bad. Didn't pick up cat hair or small bits but happily dragged my carpets away from the floor near the walls.

Put up with it for a year and went back to a basic roll-ball Dyson. Picks up everything and doesn't ruin my carpets.

Henry's are great. I have an old Dyson though and it's fantastic, can't comment on newer ones though.

Before sort of inheriting the Dyson we had an Electrolux that claimed to do pet fur. Didn't work, ended up on my hands and knees with a clothes brush. I swear there was a whole extra cat in the carpet.

Get a rubber broom (Argos and Lakeland sell them)

A rubber broom is far better than the vax and Dyson I have used for getting fur and hair out of the carpet

EnthusiasmIsDisturbed · 04/02/2018 18:35

And for getting cat fur off clothes H&M sell sticky rollers for 99p I always buy a few when I am in there and they are just as good as the more expensive ones

JustGettingStarted · 04/02/2018 22:16

The brand isn't the issue. It's down to the surfaces cleaned and the type of hair you're dealing with. Henry is great hoover, but useless on deep pile. The rotator brush attachment isn't very effective as it's air powered. An upright with a beater bar is necessary on thick carpet, but it's no guarantee on hair.

A rubber broom will gather up the hair and pull it out of the pile.

@ontheboardwalk it’s been a while, any feedback on the Shark? Smile

TheSeasonOfTheWitch · 08/09/2018 17:06

Miele cat and dog

seventhgonickname · 08/09/2018 17:58

Have just bought a rubber broom and hand brush,my hoover is good but I find the stairs tricky and this has a sweet to get excess water of laminate floors.Thankyou those who recommended these.

Mia184 · 08/09/2018 18:02

I have a Siemens Vampyr and it works wonderfully on cat hair. My cat is dark brown and I have a couple of very light beige wool carpets that she likes to sleep on.

Ontheboardwalk · 08/09/2018 19:21

@SilkeOvensen I wasn’t impressed. Difficult to control and nearly broke my finger on the first go.

Ended up getting rid of the carpet downstairs (not just because of rubbish hoovers but it certainly helped the decision) so just needed one for stairs and sofa

I got the GTech Animal handheld and it’s brilliant! Best hoover I’ve had in a very long time!

PaulHollywoodsSexGut · 08/09/2018 19:24

Shark or gTech Air Ram

BUT

My Henry is the best hoover I’ve ever had. Highly recommend. Don’t be too blinded by the fact it has a bag, it’s efficient as fuck.

DeadCertain · 08/09/2018 19:25

The Bosch Athlet pet one is the business for dog hair - assume great for cat too!!

MervynBunter · 08/09/2018 19:30

Another vote for Shark here. We've a long-haired Burman and it deals with that - no problem (which is more than the Dyson did).

Girliefriendlikesflowers · 08/09/2018 19:34

I've got a Henry and find it a complete pita, it doesn't pick up cat hair at all and has nearly taken me out a few times on the stairs.

Have just bought a Dyson v7, so far so good....

A shark would be my next choice.
