To want a hoover that actually works on cat hair and doesn’t cost the earth?

I have two hoovers, the latest specifically marketed as for animal fur, but they are both rubbish! Do I have to spend hundreds of pounds?!

Avoid dysons! I thought mine was amazing when I first got it, hated it after less than a year.

I now have a Vax for pets and would thoroughly recommend it!

NotMeNoNo · 04/02/2018 11:10

Is not the brand but you need one with a rotating brush attachment not just a standard floor tool (if a cylinder). we have the Miele cat & dog and it has to have the turbo brush thing on to make any impact. (dog has long black coat I don't know what we were thinking!)

Ontheboardwalk · 04/02/2018 11:13

Watching this thread!

I’ve had both a Dyson and a Bosch animal makes and they were both rubbish!

On the subject of cat hair, does anyone have any advice about how to get cat hair off clothes? Ive not found any clothes brushes that actually work....my handheld vac doesn’t do the job either. I’ve resorted to sellotape sometimes!

ScreamingValenta · 04/02/2018 11:31

choccoffee have you tried a sticky roller? Wilko do a good one. It's the sellotape principle but designed for the purpose so more effective.

arghh21 · 04/02/2018 11:32

for clothes things the sticky roller things cover more surface area than sellotape

Cornettoninja · 04/02/2018 11:36

try a rubber broom

This, this, this.

Honestly the difference is astounding, they're great if anyone in the house has long hair too - saves your vacuum roller brush from getting tangled.

BrazzleDazzleDay · 04/02/2018 11:43

Shark! Have a dyson and vax pet and the shark totally kicks their asses

MrsSchadenfreude · 04/02/2018 11:50

Miele cat & dog. Or Kobbold Vorwerk.

choccoffeegeek · 04/02/2018 12:05

Screaming & Arghhh 😊 thank you I will go and get one. Hopefully the DDs uniforms will look less fluffy & furry Grin

MargaretCabbage · 04/02/2018 12:07

My Henry wasn't picking up the cat hair but I bought an Airo brush to add on to it and it's brilliant now.

Zaphodsotherhead · 04/02/2018 12:26

Dyson pet here too, and it's been great, but the rotating head thing keeps breaking (the cogs seem to wear down so it rotates everywhere except on the carpet). I've been through three heads now, and I'm going for a change next time (now I no longer have my big shedding hound, sniff).

SandAndSea · 04/02/2018 12:29

Another vote for the Argos, unbranded upright. It's around £50 and is white and grey. Nice and simple and does the job.

I have 3 ragdolls,[think of all that fur] and a dog, picks the cats hair up no problem, ;its called vax power pet, there is another similiar, i got in the first place, but wasnt much good but i took it back and got this oneIts brilliant and has never got clogged

FleurWeasley · 04/02/2018 13:45

@speakout - sorry to be a bore, but could you measure the width of the bottom of your goblin? We have a right fit next to the washing machine but this sounds great!

speakout · 04/02/2018 14:05

fleur- no problem. the base is 32cm wide, 30 cm deep. the whole of the base can move to the vertical, instead of 90 degrees to the handle and upright so could be moved like that for storage.

justdontevenfuckingstart · 04/02/2018 14:10

I did a vacuum thread a while back (went against advice) I bought a Shark. I have two dogs not cats but it is the best vacuum cleaner I have ever had. Absolutely brilliant. I did the carpets with the pet attachment on my hands and knees and could not believe how much hair and dust it picked up.

angstinabaggyjumper · 04/02/2018 14:23

Just don't buy a Dyson!

Kleinzeit · 04/02/2018 14:25

I have a Miele Cat&Dog. Works for me. I run the turbo brush over the soft furnishings to get the catfluff out. Sometimes I've been known to run it over me.

(Though I usually use sticky rollers for clothes)

Sebo here too! Brilliant at doing what it is supposed to. Everyone I know who has one is evangelical about them. Nothing compares, especially my shit Dyson.

Ninoo25 · 04/02/2018 14:42

I’d look for something with the rotating brush attachment and lots of power. I’ve never found anything other than a Dyson or Miele any good for pet hair and have been disappointed by many ‘cheap’ hoovers (lots of cheap hoovers over the years adds up to something like a Dyson anyway in the long run 😦) Good luck and let us know if you do find a cheaper one that does the job!

FancyNewBeesly · 04/02/2018 14:45

Honestly, it depends what you're cleaning off more than what you're cleaning with.

We used to have a sofa with a sort of bobbly fabric which would get literally matted with cat hair, you couldn't get it clean. I'd sit for hours with a rubber glove rubbing the cushions as that's the only thing that got it off. For that type of sofa or carpet you need a powered turbo brush attachment.

We now have wooden floors and a sofa with smooth fabric and it's a piece of piss to clean the hair up now!

ObscuredbyFog · 04/02/2018 15:05

The Dyson turbine tool gets cat hair off all our fabrics. You need to hold the fabric quite taut if doing say a jumper or curtains.
