To think about going to the doctor

I put this in aibu because it's very active on here.
I started feeling dizzy in the night and it hasn't gone away.
When I get up I am swaying all over the place and everything is spinning. I also feel sick not excessively but last night I did vomit. I had similar couple of times before but never this bad.

In regards to the diabetes I've had doctors tell me to address my diet and take exercise before they go down the route of medication but because of my eating issues I haven't done this.

It's interesting how some of you say you didn't get any ear symptoms

Aliasgrace1 · 03/02/2018 09:19

Please don't ignore your diabetes, it's such a serious condition if it declines!

My mum suffers with vertigo it's awful, hope you manage to see a doctor soon xx

letsdolunch321 · 03/02/2018 09:20

Have you got a walk in centre nearby to you?

If so, get a taxi and go there. They will see you

Lucky6266 · 03/02/2018 10:12

No walk in centre close by

You don't get ear 'symptoms' with vertigo / labrynthitis / Ménière's- it's a condition deep in the inner ear rather than an infection.

I've got Ménière's and have attacks like this.

Flump9 · 03/02/2018 11:05

Just to add what others have said, I too had this once and every time I moved I was sick for a few hours but from what I remember it was a lot better by the afternoon and gone the next day. Also no ear symptoms. I think seeing a Dr on Monday if it's still happening should be OK.

LoniceraJaponica · 03/02/2018 12:23

One of my friends is a doctor who specialises in diabetes. She says that 70% of type 2 sufferers would be symptom free if they were sensible about diet and exercise.

Can you ask for help with your eating disorder?

Just putting your head in the sand about your diabetes won't make it go away. The risks of stroke/heart attack, damage to eyesight and feet are the same with both types of diabetes. Why would you take these risks?

kimlo · 03/02/2018 13:40

iklboo I get ear symptoms with menieres. My hearing levels drop, my tinitus gets worse and then the spins start. My ent says those are the classic menieres symptoms.

iklboo · 03/02/2018 13:55

Kimlo - sorry I meant symptoms like an ear infection - posing, swelling etc.

iklboo · 03/02/2018 13:56

@kimlo - I get those too. They're like an early warning system aren't they?

kimlo · 03/02/2018 13:59

oh I see. Yes they are, as soon as I can't hear I'm praying it's a medium attack where I can stay upright and not a lying on the floor being sick one. I actually thing the waiting and not knowing how bad whats coming is going to be, is worse than the actual dizziness.

Whatever the cause of your current issues OP, please take this as a wake up call to stop ignoring your health issues and take better care of yourself :( diabetes can be very serious if left unmanaged. I sense you're not happy with having let your health go and neglected yourself, Do you think this could be a wake up call?

SavageBeauty73 · 03/02/2018 14:08

Please don't neglect your diabetes!

iklboo · 03/02/2018 14:56

Posing? I meant pain!

@kimlo - do you ever get any numbness?

kimlo · 03/02/2018 14:58

my hands go numb, I have never thought about it being conected though.

swimster01 · 03/02/2018 15:01

Sounds like vertigo to me - my DH had to take me to the doctors, was sick in the car there - it was awful but they gave me something to clear it up

iklboo · 03/02/2018 15:02

My face & tongue go numb on my 'worst' side as kind of the last symptom before the vertigo attack if it's a bad one.

MyBrilliantDisguise · 03/02/2018 15:04

I agree that it sounds like vertigo.

You haven't had antibiotics lately, have you? I had vertigo as a reaction to them.

Your ear won't feel different, btw. It's the middle ear that's affected.

PinkBuffalo · 03/02/2018 15:05

OP I had really bad sickness recently. It was so bad I couldn't drive either. I had to take a cab to go the Drs. Can you get a cab to a walk in centre? The medication I'm on has made a huge difference. The cab was expensive, but worth it so I could get sorted.

Idontdowindows · 03/02/2018 15:06

Every one of the illnesses you already have could cause this.

Why are you leaving your diabetes untreated?

lilabet2 · 03/02/2018 15:57

It sounds like Vestibular Neuritis/Labrynthitis, which involve the nerves to the inner ear but don't feel like ear infections and don't involve pain in the ear. It could also just be a strain of Norovirus- some strains of the infection primarily cause dizziness with vomiting rather than extreme abdominal pains. If you can send someone else out to buy 'Buccastem' tablets over the counter (an anti-emetic, which would also help with the dizziness) then I would do that.

However obviously if you have untreated diabetes it could be related to that- have you checked your blood sugar levels? If you are fairly sure it is related to untreated diabetes then perhaps A&E or phoning 111 would be the best option.

lilabet2 · 03/02/2018 15:59

Also I second the idea that you should get a family member/close friend to watch you and help if you think it's related to your diabetes.

However do keep in mind that it might be contagious norovirus so make sure to wash hands regularly and avoid sharing hand towels or handling cups/glasses etc.
