Skinny dip gone too far? Or spot on? You decide

Following another thread,

Call me old fashioned and may be I am I freely admit abit of an old prude - I blame my strict girls school. My dd just turned 12 was given this wonderful gift for her birthday.

www.skinnydiplondon.com/search?q=f*ck+it

All of her friends have been into skinny dip from top shop since they were 10 years old and upwards and the market is largely aimed at pre teen/early teens so why this??

The phone cover just takes the bloody biscuit!

Would you send your child out with this tat?

We were stunned when she opened it, and it was passed around. Granny spat out her tea and visibly blanched, my youngest sniggered having added that to her growing vocabulary that day.
Later we spent an agonising twenty minutes trying to find the right words for the thank you cards.

How is this ever acceptable??

And why haven't the daily mail picked up on this very useful piece of evidence that britain has indeed reached sewer level (they are never there when we actually need them!)

I was joking! All jokes aside, I am annoyed!

I can never tell here anymore Smile

Just tell her she can't fucking have it and if she wants swear words on her stuff, to do it properly with tipped and sharpie pens. Then wander around muttering about the youth of today. That always clears a room.

Battleax · 02/02/2018 15:00

Mrsterry

But at least FC had the good grace to mix up the letters, this to me is just screams of a grubby lack of imagination.

Since when did feminism become about swearing as much and as publicly as you can?

OP posts:
g1itterati · 02/02/2018 15:02

There is no need for this and I would chuck it straight in the bin.

Battleax · 02/02/2018 15:02

I think in the modern vernacular 'fuck boy' is an insulting term for a male person who has a lot of sexual conquests and sees women as notches on his bed post.

Oh yes that rings a bell. There was a thread about a proto-feminist DD being disciplined for crushing one. Isn't teen culture nasty?

k2p2k2tog · 02/02/2018 15:02

I have a 12 year old and wouldn't let her use that.

Celticlassie · 02/02/2018 15:03

A 'fuckboy' is a boy who cares too much about his appearance and treats girls like shit. Still inappropriate but probably sends a better message than the other things.

Flippetydip · 02/02/2018 15:03

No, no and hell no - that's totally inappropriate. It's offensive and yes, I probably am easily offended but I wouldn't want my kids seeing that whilst being carried by someone else.

AgainReally · 02/02/2018 15:03

If you google what a Fuckboy is it the case makes more sense.

I’d not be keen for a 12 year old.
15 I’d probably ignore it.

ReanimatedSGB · 02/02/2018 15:03

Oh do get over yourselves. The more catsbumface you get over stuff like this, the more amusing your teen will find your reaction.

Battleax · 02/02/2018 15:04

What's cats bum about telling them to pay themselves or do without complete tatt?

rocketgirl22 · 02/02/2018 15:04

Bluths

That is informative, as I didn't know what it meant. Never heard of it, being north of 40 and all that

how lovely to walk around with that then, I am not going to be another notch on your bedpost - very helpful in every day life then Confused

Bluntness100 · 02/02/2018 15:05

Yeah, I thought it would be a friend who thought it was cool.

I agree selling this to kids isn't ok, but it becomes difficult as they then need to age id them.

I also wouldn't have allowed my daughter to have it.

I'm not sure why you are surprised it got past the mother, is there no father present then?

Estellanpip · 02/02/2018 15:06

The brand's target market isn't children so I don't think they've gone too far.
Inappropriate to give as a present to a 12 year old, though.

Toomanycats99 · 02/02/2018 15:07

@MrsTerryPratchett

I had fcuk glasses. When my dd started at school she obviously sounded out her words. F-cuk is how that comes cross in phonics. We had to have a discussion around how that word is spelt not sounded out.......

rocketgirl22 · 02/02/2018 15:08

Blunt

Father works away overseas, and he would be furious if he knew, very principled old military type.

We haven't needles to say put it in the charity bag!

It is firmly in the recycled bin.

Just when I thought top shop couldn't sink any lower in my estimations.

I swear like a trooper, and my kids have from quite an early age. But this stuff is just tacky - all Oh Look at Me I'm so Cool. Actually no - it's just trying far too hard and really REALLY tacky.

In all the times I have been to topshop I have rarely seen anyone over eighteen. The market is firmly pre teens and up.

OP posts:
hattyhighlighter · 02/02/2018 15:10

Yes I'd have thought it was aimed at older teens/students
The mum if she's got 5 kids - are they older teens? If so she's probably just turning a blind eye. Pick your battles

lolaflores · 02/02/2018 15:11

How long before Pampers decide to do a limited edition with this on the nappies?

I vote no to this as well. FCUK wasn't as direct a message as this. Putting it in Topshop is cynical and typifies the kind of marketing that makes me spit.

Estellanpip · 02/02/2018 15:13

It really isn't. But yes it attracts teenagers who obviously don't want to be seen in Boden or H&M clothes.
Skinny Dip is an independent store, why are you going after Topshop? Do they still have a concession there?
You would faint if you saw some of my jewellery from Sourcherry.
Why donate the item you find so offensive? Just take it for a credit note or exchange.

All the girls buy in at school, and they are 11/12 and yes top shop do have major concessions everywhere. It is where she buys it. If they were looking to protect their reputation you would imagine someone to be checking this stuff no?

You clearly have good reason to defend this kind of thing. I really don't want my children to have it.
