To miss my DD after she’s gone to bed

My DD is 5 and gets energy from an alternative source. If I could bottle what she runs on I’d be a billionaire. She was always ‘that kid’ who was climbing the bookcase or looking into people’s cupboards or running across the road.

I have always found her exhausting but amazing. By bedtime (which always seems to take 2 hours, no matter what I do) I can’t wait to see the back of her. But then about an hour later I totally miss her.

AIBU? Does every parent feel like this?

I totally get what you are saying. I remember DH and I loitering about under my next door neighbor's bedroom window when my young DC were being babysat, and wishing we could just go bring them home. It was our first date night in months; pretty pathetic.

Now DGS's exhaust me half to death, when they sleep over, and I miss them the very second they are gone.

Such is love.

I must be the worst mother in the world as I dont miss mine at all in the normal run of things. When they are away with their dad for a week, as they do twice a year, then yes I do miss them alot. But bedtimes, nights out, sleep overs etc? No, sorry!

PyongyangKipperbang · 01/02/2018 23:14

I should add that that doesnt mean I dont worry about them, of course I do! I have to be physically restrained from texting "Everything ok?" if they are on sleep overs!

My son is 16 and I still climb into bed to cuddle him when he's asleep.

ILoveMrDarcy · 01/02/2018 23:18

And still miss him when he's not here.

Sohardyochooseausername ha ha!

Im sure I will say that to DS when he** is 40 too.

I’m the same! Sometimes I have a really hard day with her and can’t wait for her to go to bed but once she is, I miss her terribly. I genuinely look forward to waking up in the morning so I can see her little smiley face.

My dd would make the duracel bunny look like a bloody snail. She literally never stops, and will eventually just crash. She drives me demented, she pushes every single last button and there are times when I feel like I could walk out, shut the door and never look back.

And then I put my head round her door, watch her gently sleeping and I fall in love with her all over again. Its like all the mischief never happened.

She is a terror but she is my terror and as much as she drives me mental I absolutely adore her. She is my best mate and I love the bones of her

I miss DS. I am always secretly a little but happy when he wakes up between 8pm-1am and I have to go and cuddle him. When DH is out, I spend the evening in his room “just in case he wakes up”.

I’m not a major fan of him waking up between 1am-7am though. DH can deal with him then Grin
