To think 6 year olds should not be wearing this

Merchandise from a major dance show at the excel centre in London next month. They sell these, and tshirts from age 6 up.

I’m going to have to explain to a 10 year old why she can’t have a jumper...

only dirty minds think a child’s top is about sex

Sorry, have we not established firmly enough that the

_do it like

Turn of phrase was a thing that meant

has sex like

Therefore no one’s mind has to be in the gutter to make the connection.

Only dirty minds think a child's top is about sex.

Yup, all clothes for children are innocent

BlueMirror · 01/02/2018 20:49

And if kids are never to be exposed to double entendres that go over their heads I'm assuming none of the people clutching their pearls on here took their children to see a panto at Christmas???

silverlace · 01/02/2018 20:50

OP as an 80s girl I knew straight away what it meant.

For those too young to remember I give you the chorus to Wham's I'm Your Man

Baby, I'm your man. Don't you know that?
Baby, I'm your man
You bet!
If you're gonna do it, do it right (right)
Do it with me
If you're gonna do it, do it right right
Do it with me
If you're gonna do it, do it right right
Do it with me
If you're gonna do it, do it right right
Do it with me

He really wanted to do "it" didn't he?

Mind you I've just read all of the lyrics to that classic and they seem slightly dodgy by current standards but that's another story.

welliments · 01/02/2018 20:51

Trolls do it under the bridge

80sMum · 01/02/2018 20:51

Maybe this list of "do it" slogans might convince the doubters.

welliments · 01/02/2018 20:52

bluemirror

The last panto I went to didn’t make any jokes about children doing it with attitude.

Nor were any of them wearing tops alluding to it.

What panto did you go to?

TheGoldenBowl · 01/02/2018 20:52

You don't have to be 'really looking for' the rude interpretation Confused It's bloody obvious!

Yes, it could be a completely innocent sentence. But most people will see that it's not. It doesn't really make sense as a sentence on its own either; the 'it' is unnamed.

BlueMirror · 01/02/2018 20:54

Every panto I've been to for the last 8 years has had one of the male dressed up as a female characters making double entendres galore. What panto did YOU go to???

welliments · 01/02/2018 20:54

Can we have a show of hands

Those of you who now know what the clothing alludes to who would still let their child wear it, please raise your hands...

OP posts:
welliments · 01/02/2018 20:55

bluemirror

Not one that alluded to children and sex.

That’s the difference.

OP posts:
treaclesoda · 01/02/2018 20:56

OP now that I've realised the innuendo (which originally passed me by even though usually I notice these things) no way would I let my child wear it.

BoobleMcB · 01/02/2018 20:56

I read the 'It' as everything/anything. Like whatever they're doing they do it with attitude.

As for other do it slogans, you're having a laugh surely?

Nike's 'Just Do It' is obviously NOT about sex. It's a life motto as in 'Go For It' or 'Just Try' it's fuck all to do with sex.

Same with McDonald's. And God help your mind when with Maybeline, obviously an advocate for paedophilia their tag line 🤔

AuntieStella · 01/02/2018 20:57

"And if kids are never to be exposed to double entendres that go over their heads I'm assuming none of the people clutching their pearls on here took their children to see a panto at Christmas???"

Listening to smut, which she may or may not understand, in a theatre, is totally different from having your DD walk around so that everyone else can read the smutty joke on her chest.

DreamyMcDreamy · 01/02/2018 20:57

And if kids are never to be exposed to double entendres that go over their heads I'm assuming none of the people clutching their pearls on here took their children to see a panto at Christmas??

Exactly, double entrendes are even in pantos, they're double entrende classics! Love them, and the kids love them too. Smile
Anyone dare go after the panto for being unsuitable next...... Angry Angry

TheGoldenBowl · 01/02/2018 20:57

The panto comparison doesn't really make sense. Yes, the adults can enjoy a joke that floats over the kids' heads. That's a bit different from sending a kid - who is a dancer -out into public with a slogan about how dancers shag splashed across their chest. Hmm

BlueMirror · 01/02/2018 20:57

And no it's not the same double entendres. Isn't it just this one you have a problem with?
There was plenty of stuff like 'can you show me?' 'oh yes I can certainly show you a thing or two' . Definitely referring to sex. Children unscathed.

MagicWillHappen · 01/02/2018 20:58

I have the filthiest mind ever and I wouldn't look at that jumper and think 'it' meant sex.

Dancing is a performing art and I would see it as meaning dancers do things with dramatic flair - 'it' meaning stuff in general, not sex Hmm

It's a bit of a stretch IMO

MyToeHurtsBetty · 01/02/2018 20:58

It is innapropriate. Clearly everyone here is to young to remember all those old jokes. Teachers "do it" in the classroom. Scientists do it periodically. Bomb disposal experts do it carefully. It might also be a pun involving the word attitude but yes it does allude to sex

nokidshere · 01/02/2018 20:59

Of course it's meant to be smutty! And if you think 10-12 yr olds don't/wouldn't get it you are deluded.

There are lots of people on this thread talking bollocks

welliments · 01/02/2018 21:00

Really Bluemirror I don’t know how to spell it out more clearly to you.

There is a difference between a double entendre about sex and a double entendre which is about children and sex.

Dreamymcdreamy you are actually now making things up to be outraged about. No one’s after the panto FFS.

Next thing you know you’ll be saying they’ve banned Christmas Hmm

OP posts:
DreamyMcDreamy · 01/02/2018 21:00

Grin

How old do you think I am?! You don't have to be young to not be offended by this t-shirt! "Old people"'s minds don't automatically look at a childs hoodie and think sex quotes.

BlueMirror · 01/02/2018 21:00

Except it doesn't say shag does it? What do people actually think is going to happen if a child wears this t-shirt. I'll help you - absolutely nothing? aside from a few mumsnetters frothing for absolutely no reason

Nottheduchessofcambridge · 01/02/2018 21:01

Except it’s not a stretch at all. That slogan is about sex not dance.

DiseasesOfTheSheep · 01/02/2018 21:01

I don't remember the 80s, but I am familiar with this format of "joke". It most certainly is a sexual reference. I don't think it's appropriate either.
