To ban phones and other technology from my coffee shop?

I actually don't HAVE a coffee shop or any other business but I just wondered - hypothetically speaking, if it was a great place, with fabulous coffee and cakes etc. would you still go if NO technology at all was allowed to be used in there?

i would go in your coffee shop because im one of the minority of people who can actually go out all day and on holiday for a whole fortnight without having to be attached to the internet

ForalltheSaints · 01/02/2018 19:11

I would for the few days it remained open.

HappyLollipop · 01/02/2018 19:14

No way.

annielouisa · 01/02/2018 19:19

No I enjoy sitting with a nice coffee and looking at my emails, social media or playing a game (no sound). I am 60 next birthday so think I am mature enough to decide what I do with my tiny bit of leisure time

Gazelda · 01/02/2018 19:20

No.
I use my lunch break from work to catch up on admin, check appointments, make plans with friends, online banking etc. It's one of the few times during the week that I get a bit of peace to deal with all that stuff.

eurochick · 01/02/2018 19:22

Nope.

(Posted from a pub where I am enjoying sitting on my own having a beer and gazing at my phone while I wait for my flight)

ScreamingValenta · 01/02/2018 19:22

Going against the majority here, but I would. Happy to read a book or paper instead.

CauliflowerBalti · 01/02/2018 19:23

No. Going to sit in a coffee shop is usually a treat. I don’t want someone applying judgy parameters to my treat.

ShinyMe · 01/02/2018 19:26

I'm perfectly capable of managing without my phone, and sometimes I like to sit and people watch or daydream. But absolutely not on any level would I be a customer of a cafe that told me that I can't use my phone if I bloody well want to.

AfterSchoolWorry · 01/02/2018 19:28

No.

You can't un-invent the wheel.

DoubleLottchen · 01/02/2018 19:28

I don't have a smartphone and wouldn't use tech in a coffee shop anyway - apart from, I might very possibly need to send a text; if I'm in a coffee shop, it's quite likely I'll be waiting for/meeting someone.

But I would probably be slightly put off by a sanctimonious sign smugly informing me that I wasn't allowed to use a phone. It all seems a bit unnecessary So you would have to have really good cakes to win me over.

Riverside2 · 01/02/2018 19:31

OP, no.

wonder why you're asking though?

would def go to over 18s only coffee shop or restaurant.

ColinFlower · 01/02/2018 19:31

I'd happily come to your coffee shop but not if you have one of those patronising 'you might have talk to each other instead Hmm ' signs up.

A decent book shelf would be even more appealing.

PigletWasPoohsFriend · 01/02/2018 19:32

There is somewhere like that near here. They are always really busy.

Shoes that there must be a market for it.

April229 · 01/02/2018 19:34

Nope.

SingaSong12 · 01/02/2018 19:34

No
I do often sit and read a physical paper in a cafe. Sometimes I'm online, like to be able to be contactable.
Mostly though don't like the judgmental attitude I perceive in such a rule.

robertaplumkin · 01/02/2018 19:34

no i would not! ridiculous and annoying.

Branleuse · 01/02/2018 19:39

No If im having a coffee in town, i often like to check my phone.

I dont use the wifi, but that sign annoys me, Its passive aggressive. I dont want to talk to strangers.

LagunaBubbles · 01/02/2018 19:40

Nope. I can still use my phone if necessary and talk to my DH to, it's not one or the other plus why would you want to? People who don't want to use their devices still wouldn't, others would so why ban them?

Crispbutty · 01/02/2018 19:43

Nope. I like to go have a coffee and sit in peace but checking my emails /read the news etc.

hazeyjane · 01/02/2018 19:44

People might chat to each other.

Fuck that shit. I stick my headphones in so people don't talk to me!

ArchchancellorsHat · 01/02/2018 19:45

no, bugger that. I'm not going to pay anyone to be patronised and told how I can spend my time. If I'm old enough to have a job to pay for coffee and cake (it's never as nice as they think it is) then I'm old enough to faff on the internet should I choose.

PickAChew · 01/02/2018 19:47

Do what you like but I wouldn't visit. If I'm sitting alone with a coffee, I'd like to be able to catch up on emails, plan a journey, read the news or whatever else takes my fancy, while I'm parked on me arse with nowt better to do.

LostThePhone · 01/02/2018 19:50

Cafe near me has a big sign saying 'No WIFI, talk to each other'
Made even funnier by the owner leaning on it using his phone, all the time.

Ginorchoc · 01/02/2018 19:52

I have meetings in local coffee shops (always try and stick to independents) with clients so we need technology, phones and iPads, for a coffee shop open during business hours it wouldn’t make sense to ban them.
