To be really hacked off at all the beeping?

So I got a new tumble dryer and cooker recently. And I'm going mad. Everything beeps. The dryer beeps repeatedly if the filter gets any fluff on it. It beeps several times at the end of the cycle. The cooker beeps if you place something on it even when none of the hobs are on. The microwave beeps far more times than it needs to when it's finished, and if you don't immediately open the door it beeps to remind you there's something in it. The washing machine beeps several times when the cycle has finished. Why the fk does everything have to fking beep in the kitchen!! Is it just me?

OK so microwaves and induction hobs excepted, you can turn everything else off!

mirime · 31/01/2018 21:19

My old washing machine just did the one, very discreet beep. The new one plays a fucking tune that irritates the hell out of me. I did turn it off, but DS and DH like it/want to wind me up so it gets turned back on.

SingaSong12 · 31/01/2018 21:21

I have old appliances so they are all silent. Will need to be getting new ones. Just thinking about sounds I'd find useful

  • washing machine - none
  • tumble dryer when cycle finishes maybe three bleeps once
  • microwave. Bleep when finished cooking
Oven - one bleep when at temperature might be useful, otherwise only if there is a timer and I set it.

I hate it too. My new dishwasher makes this funny little ditty and the dog keeps thinking it’s the doorbell. Cue barking, running backwards and forwards, then sitting down confused.

My dad's kitchen/utility room stuff does this. Whenever we stay at his, inevitably they go off at about 2am when they finish and wake me up. I grind my teeth until I give in and go down to turn them off.

DF and DP and DD sleep through, grrrr

jenniferjane21 · 31/01/2018 21:30

Actually not all machines' beeps can be turned off.
Our washing machine manual said nothing about beeps so I emailed the manufacturer and was told there is nothing you can do to stop the b**y beeps

BadMam · 31/01/2018 21:39

I can't turn my beeps off on my washing machine, toaster or kettle?!?!

I can turn the dryer ones off but at as a compensating measure it does a full turn of the drum every few minutes Angry

RideaCockHorseOfCourse · 31/01/2018 21:57

The thing that hacks me off most about my washing machine is that you have to wait 2 minutes to open the door once it's finished its cycle, or if you pause it. I'm forever dropping a sock or pair of pants from armfuls of washing on my way down to utility room (it's downstairs from main living area, so from upstairs, there're 2 flights of stairs down to washing machine). I put the load on, then back upstairs to kitchen, only to find the odd piece of underwear on the floor. Back down I go with it, only to have to stand there for 2 whole effin' minutes whilst it decides it's safe for me to put my arm in! I told DH I want one of those new machines with the extra little door in the door so you can add to the wash. He just tells me not to drop anything!!! (It beeps too, of course, but because it's downstairs, don't generally hear it). But the microwave always gets sworn at. Tatty did just what you suggested - went & read the manual. Nothing about the bloody beeping!

RideaCockHorseOfCourse · 31/01/2018 21:59

Jesus - toasters beep now too?

raindropsandsunshine · 31/01/2018 22:23

Oh god yes it's irritating. I sometimes put a wash load on before bed and lay there an hour later listening to the beeps, over, and over, again.

Apanicaday · 31/01/2018 22:26

My fridge beeps if it's been open for more than half a second. It's light also flashes on and off. It's like it's having a personal monotone disco.

FiveLittlePigs · 31/01/2018 22:29

My fridge beeps when I'm standing in front of it putting food on the shelves. I may call it names. To think I wanted a cow pattern kettle and toaster that mooed when it was done! Think it may have ended up in someone's skip! 🤣

Glumglowworm · 31/01/2018 23:01

My mums washing machine beeps a little tune when it’s done but a good couple of minutes before it unlocks the door. I find it infuriating and I’m only there a few days a year!

Thankfully my washing machine is far more polite and doesn’t beep at all. It sort of clicks every now and again if it’s finished but I’ve not attended to it, like the door is reminding me it is unlocked and can be opened.

pineappleeyes · 31/01/2018 23:10

Our microwave does 6 high pitched, really loud beeps when it's finished. One day I'll take pleasure in smashing it up

BadMam · 31/01/2018 23:13

Unfortunately yes @RideaCockHorseOfCourse Confused

LemonysSnicket · 31/01/2018 23:16

Yanbu.

Our dishwasher, washing machine, oven, microwave, fridge and freezer beep INCESSANTLY.

Haven’t opened it when it’s done ? 10 mins of BEEP BEEP BEEP

Leave fridge open to pack shopping away ? BEEPBEEPBEEPBEEPBEEP.

It’s loathesome. Fucking new build.

mustbemad17 · 01/02/2018 07:38

TattyCat that is incorrect. Believe me I have studied the manuals inside out, back to front & upside down after a friend told me the exact same thing as you. I own three appliances that come fully equipped with unkillable bleepers. Well, i've yet to try the hammer method but as i need said appliances i'm holding off on that one for now

Jamiefraserskilt · 01/02/2018 07:42

New kitchen here and everything shouts at us. Freezer, dishwasher, ovens, hob, everything. However, once I have finished telling back at the inanimate objects i am grateful for their reminders ...!

TattyCat · 01/02/2018 11:10

I stand corrected. Forgive me - my appliances allow me to turn them off so I assumed Grin

But hell fire, toasters, kettles and fridges are now beeping?!!!! I'd rather do without... How can there be any point in a toaster or kettle beeping? When they're done, they switch themselves off for heaven's sake! The worse that can happen is you get cold water or cold toast.

Forgive me - my appliances allow me to turn them off so I assumed Grin

mustbemad17 · 01/02/2018 11:11

Tattycat wanna swap 😝😝

My toaster doesn't beep, thankfully. It's just the right size for me to launch out the f**king window if it did 😂

Rebeccaslicker · 01/02/2018 11:11

Anyone else picturing this?!

To be really hacked off at all the beeping?
mustbemad17 · 01/02/2018 11:12

OMG yessss 😂 The funniest bit ever when she finds the reset button & it isn't attached hahaha
