Wonder if social media pressure will make them reverse the decision.

No clues for us as to what it’s about?

Trinity66 · 31/01/2018 14:13

awww poor baby :( Some people really hate cats though

Littlebitshort · 31/01/2018 14:14

A cat has been banned from a shop. Cats arent allowed in shops. Why would they reverse the decision?

MiddleClassProblem · 31/01/2018 14:14

Maybe it was someone with allergies or just didn’t like the idea of a cat bum on the shelves?

I bought something from a sports shop because they have a dog in there lol. I’m the opposite...

TheCatsPaws · 31/01/2018 14:15

Yeah that is really weird. Some people are grumpy gits!

Thistlebelle · 31/01/2018 14:15

I imagine lots of people wouldn’t like this. I’m one of them.

I would not personally like to find a cat sitting in a shelf in a food store (as pictured).

I wouldn’t like to see a cat by the till either.

Littlebitshort · 31/01/2018 14:15

My husband has allergies so if this was our local shop he would probably complain. I dont like cats and i might possibly complain if i could be bothered.

Rebeccaslicker · 31/01/2018 14:16

Sorry Nicky, I fuck up every single link!

If customers were going to see the cat - I know if we lived there, my nieces and DD would want to go to the shop with the cat rather than boring Waitrose! - it might make a difference. There's also the calls for a boycott.

I'm not saying they should reverse it; I'm saying I think it was meanspirited to complain in the first place and I wonder if they will bow to pressure or hope it goes away!

There is a cat here who spends all day in Morrisons foyer. He’s a local celeb and has got his own fb page HmmGrin. There would be Daily Mail sadfaces left, right and centre if he got banned Shock

Thistlebelle · 31/01/2018 14:21

“Mean spirited” or just someone with higher hygiene standards?

melj1213 · 31/01/2018 14:23

I work in retail and people will complain about anything.

I recently discovered a couple of our store comment books from about 10 years ago shoved in the back of a cupboard which shows how often anyone does a proper clear out in my store and there was genuinely a comment that read:

"I went up to customer services where the woman was on the phone and was just writing things down. I asked her a question and she looked at me and said 'I'll help you in a moment' then went straight back to her phone call for another few minutes and apologised to the person on the phone for interrupting what they were saying! This is unacceptable, I shouldn't have to wait while she talked on the phone! Customers in store should be prioritised, I am disgusted at this service and would like a manager to call me to discuss this further!"

This customer admitted that the colleague was busy, they interrupted, were still acknowledged by the colleague and were then pissed off that they had to wait their turn and actually made a complaint ... unfortunately this is not uncommon.

Nicknacky · 31/01/2018 14:25

I don't want a cat walking about shelves with dirty paws then food packages placed on them which then go to my kitchen

Not to mention customers with allergies. Why would you complain?!

Rebeccaslicker · 31/01/2018 14:25

Well it depends. If you're going to shove stuff from the shop straight into your mouth without bothering to wash it even if it's been sitting on the shelf without a packet, or without taking it out of the packet before eating it, sure, perhaps that would bother you.

But as most people don't pick up their stuff without a packet from the floor/shelf and do wash things*, yeah, I'm going with mean spirited.

  • I even wash cans of coke etc, as I was once warned about mice or rats pissing on them in warehouses, urrrrgh!!!

In no way would you routinely wash packaging of food!

MissMoneyPlant · 31/01/2018 14:37

If I worked there I'd have called her to discuss her complaint, but put her on hold every few seconds while I "deal with a customer in store"...

ArcheryAnnie · 31/01/2018 14:37

This is a bodega cat! Bodega cats are brilliant!

(Disclaimer: I know this cat is in Bournemouth and not New York. It's still a bodega cat.)

SchadenfreudePersonified · 31/01/2018 14:41

I would LOVE to go to a shop with a cat in it! One of our local pubs used to have a parrot that strode up and down the bar demanding bits of people's bar meals. Everybody loved him and he was there for years until the family gave up the tenancy. He particularly liked sausages and could get very abusive if he wasn't given a morsel. Birds are much dirtier than cats, but no-one complained about him.

And on "Le Continong" I have seen cats and dogs sitting at and on tables, as well as going round the supermarkets in trolleys etc. This country worries to much about hygiene.

Some people are allergic to cats. If the shop sells unpacked food then it’s unhygienic.

KayaG · 31/01/2018 14:43

I'd complain. Animals aren't allowed in food shops, plus I'm allergic to cats.

StarWarsFanatic · 31/01/2018 14:43

I intentionally go to a slightly less convenient train station to see the station cat :)

I also used to love going to the little convenience store by my house as a child to see the shop dog.

Is the shop going to "ban" the inevitable mice and rats it has? I've never known a food shop not have them.

Notevilstepmother · 31/01/2018 14:44

Abusive parrot sounds entertaining though Grin

PopGoesTheWeaz · 31/01/2018 14:44

Cat is probably killing mice and rats so packaging and stores are cleaner than if cat wasn't there.

CourtneyLoveIsMySpiritAnimal · 31/01/2018 14:44

There's a ginger cat in Whitby that's in and out of the shops and there used to be a cat in Haworth that did it too.

I wouldn't mind it (in fact I'd actively encourage it) but I'm a crazy cat lady.
