So what’s to be done about the mysogynistic bullying infecting the Labour Party?

Harriet Harmon, massive respect, says the claire situation in Haringsy cannot he brushed under the carpet. I think it already has. Momentum who is controlling labour leadership has a macho bullying mysogynistic cult. How can we get our party back and women on board? Any ideas?

I'm a Tory voter - don't shoot me. As such it would be easy for me to say that I'm happy that the Government has no serious opposition now or seemingly into the future. However I can't say that because I believe the country is best served by whichever party is in power, balanced by a strong opposition. That has not been the case for some years, especially with Corbyn as leader.

I would say that part of the LP are not only mysogynistic but also racist which I guess is not surprising since Corbyn is chums with Hamas and Hezbollah. It's very depressing and I genuinely feel sorry for traditional Labour voters. They have effectively been left disenfranchised.

The LibDims are now an anti-Brexit one policy party and Green Party policies appear to be as loopy as ever. Not forgetting as you mentioned, OP, trans rights over women. That also goes for the Women's Party too. I don't see an alternative.

Can anyone else see Momentum being the death of the Labour Party?

ForalltheSaints · 31/01/2018 17:57

In the case of Haringey, I think those deselected should leave the party and stand as independents.

NorthernLightsAlways · 31/01/2018 18:00

Hmmm yes it’s a mumsent cabal of bitter centrists aiming to oust Corbyn! How dare we - isn’t he the most electorally successful leader the Labour Party has ever had?

DearyDearyDeary · 31/01/2018 18:18

Labour (and the Tories) succeed under the British system as they are both broad churches. If that stops, then the party(s) in the middle will gain ground....

Babycham1979 · 31/01/2018 18:27

Claire Kober is using 'misogyny' and 'bullying' as an excuse for her resignation. She had to resign because she tried to force through a legally questionable and morally repugnant 'regeneration' scheme that amounted to huge-scale social cleansing. She drove this forward in the face of massive local opposition, and it was this that made her leadership untenable. The fact that she is female is an irrelevance, apart from her attempt to play the victim-card after the event.

if anyone is guilty of bullying, it's her and her compromised Council Executive.

HelenaDove · 31/01/2018 18:38

Babycham do you have a link?

HelenaDove · 31/01/2018 18:41

Ive seen some of whats going on with a proposed redevelopment of the Elephant and Castle.

Clandestino · 31/01/2018 18:44

Corbyn and the Momentum brought Labour down completely. Considering the disarray the Tories are in, you'd expect them to be out there, motivating, fighting the increasing social injustice, fighting for people's rights but Corbyn doesn't do any of it and spends his time cleansing the party from the internal enemy. Like the old times of good old Yosif Vissarionovich.

KimmySchmidt1 · 31/01/2018 18:45

The thing about the far left is that every generation it emerges it is still made up of the same type - people are are crap at holding down a job. Not because they have no education, or are stupid, but because they are moaning disorganised avoiders who don’t want to be on the hook as responsible for anything. So they always burn themselves out quickly and then sod off back to whingeing in pubs and thanking god they don’t have to actually accomplish anything.

PigletWasPoohsFriend · 31/01/2018 18:45

Right so 'I believe you' only works if you politically agree with the complainant. Righto.

JoeyMaynardssolidlump · 31/01/2018 18:55

Claire Kobers allegations need to be taken seriously and properly investigated although if it’s the same shameful bollocks they pulled over anti Semitic there’s no point.

may you post soundbites to any question and then proceed to say ‘well the tories are mysogynistic and racist??

we old labour voters know they are but we expect better from labour

Problem is the far left like momentum and the far right like UKIP are always racist and mysogynistic and both have infiltrated main steam politics.

And the Lib Dem’s appears to hate women too with their support of men who identify as women.

Very very very scary. .

bsbysham Helena sorry no Harriet Harmon was on record today supporting Claire and asking for an enquiry.

If there was a general election tomorrow, for the first time ever, I probably wouldn't vote. As for JC and his Momentum storm-troopers, they can stick my vote up their mysogynist, anti-semetic arses.

I desperately want to see a new, centrist party emerge from this mess. I used to hope that the likes of Dan Jarvis would step up and lead the Labour party in a new direction. Now I think they'd be better cutting their losses for a new party. Remember it only took En Marche (Macron's centrist French party) two years to establish. OK, our political system is different, but the inspiration's there.

Babycham1979 · 31/01/2018 19:09

No, I'm sorry, I don't accept the mindless 'we believe you' shtick. We should listen carefully to any accusations, but not accept anything at face value. As we've seen worth Cathy Newman, it's all too easy to claim victimhood to distract attention away from your own failings.

If Teresa May were to claim misogyny and bullying by the EU tomorrow, would we have to automatically 'believe' her? Or would she be accused of a cynical and craven attempt to avoid accusations of incompetence?

PigletWasPoohsFriend · 31/01/2018 19:13

We should listen carefully to any accusations, but not accept anything at face value.

Yet you are dismissing it at face value.

You have absolutely no idea if it is true or not. None what so ever yet you are dismissing It, because you don't agree with her politics. That's wrong.

Justanotherlurker · 31/01/2018 19:35

I think the misogyny and bullying should be investigated.

However the scheme is not just a regen, it's a plan to transfer ALL Haringey assets into a part-privatised property fund, offering a multinational called Lendlease joint control. This would hand over control of Haringey's future development to a private company, accountable to shareholders, and away from the council and local communities. It would also tie the council into paying rent for 25 years on property it currently owns, at valuations made at the peak of London's property bubble.

The nearby Conservative council in Barnet, or elsewhere for that matter, wouldn't dare consider such folly, and if they did make etc would be screaming from the rooftops, so I can see why they ousted her.

JoeyMaynardssolidlump · 31/01/2018 19:47

Yes they should be investigated but they investigated anti semetic behaviour and look how that went?

I don’t think Corbyn is s bad man I think he’s being manipulated by bad people.

Very bad people who care not a jot for ordinary working people in this country just like UKIP couldn’t give a crap either. Far left and far right are equally loathsome.

My big big fear is Jacob Reese Mogg getting control of the tories and we might as well kiss goodbye to women’s rights to abortion.

I wish Harriet Harmon was our leader I think she’s bloody awesome. Can dream

A nice peerage, what's not to like!

As for Kober and her associates in Haringey, they represent the worst of Labour's recent past. They managed, somehow, to mix the worst of the Blair era - short-sightedness, anti-democratic values - with the worst of the old Labour urban machines - complacency, backstabbing and disregard for the public. So although I do believe it should be investigated, I do believe she should be out.

I do agree with with you re corbyn, but I do not think he is as principled as his supporters/momentum meme about. He is a career politician, full of all the soundbites and u-turn, but just naive, although he has kind of grown into the role. He and his cohorts are nothing more than opposition where everything basically boils down to whataboutism and evil tories.

I hope JRM will get nowhere near leading the party
