To think you don't store toys like this

Why on earth would you use an old liquitabs box to store toys for a young child? Came across this recently and just thought it was bizzare. Why would you want to teach a child that those boxes which contain such toxic stuff might contain toys, surely it encourages them to pick up the real thing. So AIBU and precious, or do lots of people do this?!

Is the point they're in a childproof box? Like, are you teaching them to open the box by letting them play with them? I don't think it's a good idea OP x

I have 4 DS and despite the fact that the full box of liquitabs is easily within their reach there is absolutely no danger of them opening it. They apparently do not understand that they are for putting in the dishwasher to wash dishes. My youngest DS is 26 BTW. Grrr! Grin

We kept our crayons in large king Edward cigar boxes and I'm pretty sure turps and white spirits were in glass lemonade bottles, but i do agree with you op why would you take the risk.

Preschool had some small toys in an unlabelled liquitab box, I think it's fine. I don't use them myself as they are a really uneconomical way to do your laundry as you can't measure them, dissolve some in hot water to wash your carpet etc.

YABU

I have given DD empty liquitab boxes with the lids taken off so she could use them to keep all her pens/pencils/crayons etc tidy and organised in her desk drawers, and she has also got a couple of them that she keeps things like LOL doll bits and bobs in.

TBH I reuse them all over the house as they're a handy size for storage. For example I don't have very much storage in my bathroom and what I do have is mostly open shelving so I have covered a few in patterned contact paper and use them for storage - I keep sanitary products in one, razor and spare razor heads in another, cotton buds/cotton balls in another etc - as they're a handy size, protect the items from the damp air they'd be open to if I just put them straight on to the shelves and they're prettier than just putting the packets on the shelf.

I never thought about it like that, I store plenty of stuff in old liquidtab boxes, but not until my kids were at least 3 years old. I've never had a problem with my kids thinking the liquitabs were play stuff. They were kept in the cleaning cupboard and they knew not to touch anything in there. The original boxes were clear and so with the labels all soaked off the kids could see what was in there and easily select the correct box. I guess every parent knows their own children and when mine where at a vunerable age the kitchen, where the cleaning cupboard was, was gated off, so they wouldn't have had access to it anyway. Now they are older they are past the point of shoving anything and everything into their mouths and would know not to eat or play with the detergent.
