To ask for your remedies for bloating

Posting here for traffic.

I get married in a few months and am working my butt off to get slimmer. My dress is rather unforgiving! For years I've struggled with bloating and I've never really been able to pinpoint the foods responsible for it, sometimes it just comes out of nowhere and I haven't even eaten anything!

So my concern is that on the day, even though I'll have spent months working hard in the gym, my body could decide to mimic a nice space hopper and there will be nothing I can do about it. The wedding is abroad in an all inclusive resort (relevant because of available food to eat) and it's at 3pm so not eating isn't an option either.

Do any of you mumsnetters have miracle cures for bloating when it happens? I'd like to be as prepared as possible should it happen! I'll be taking a stock of peppermint tea, but I'm literally open to anything!

Thank you

Interested to hear ideas too. I've been trying to lose weight so have massively upped my veg intake. Now I look 9 months pregnant and my stomach is killing me. I actually think if I was stabbed in the stomach right now, I'd explode.

IrrelevantPeasant · 30/01/2018 20:06

Peppermint capsules work a treat! Congrats on your wedding Smile

NeverRed · 30/01/2018 20:06

Boscapan is your friend here.

mumpoints · 30/01/2018 20:07

Peppermint tea. it really works.

treeofhearts · 30/01/2018 20:07

Wind settlers. In a blue box. Debloat me in record time.

Huntinginthedark · 30/01/2018 20:09

Charcoal tables apparently Work

Lovetheseaside778 · 30/01/2018 20:09

Epsom salts bath and fennel tea. Drink plenty of water.

Huntinginthedark · 30/01/2018 20:09

Tablets!!

NoChella · 30/01/2018 20:10

Thanks everyone, peppermint tea doesn't seem to have an immediate effect on Mr which is why I'm concerned if it happened on the day. I was thinking buscopan too, so I'll stock up!
Thank you irrelevant !
holytoast keep going with the veg, I'm doing the Body coach and the veg was awful to begin with! I've found courgettes are gentle on the tummy if that helps

If an increase in fruit and veg, ie 'healthy eating' is going this to you, in all likelihood you have IBS.
Try following the FODMAP diet and see how you get on. It's a bit tricky to get your head around (white potato ok, sweet potato not).
It's totally sorted out my bloating and other unpleasant symptoms

Congratulations on your wedding, hope you have a lovely day Flowers

Try cutting out or cutting down on wheat and foods that contain wheat e.g. bread pasta pizza etc. Wheat can cause bloating.

Lellikelly26 · 30/01/2018 20:12

I use buscopan and peppermint tablets (amazon). Also peppermint tea. The worry is that it is stress that will bloat you. Get some Spanx as well? Though sometimes pressure round my middle makes it worse

PasstheStarmix · 30/01/2018 20:12

Charcoal tablets are great for bloatation

NoChella · 30/01/2018 20:18

lelli same here, pressure around the middle makes mine worse and sometimes brings it on. Unfortunately at my dress fitting last week I was told because of the style of dress, spanx is a no no anyway.
It's just frustrating that I have no idea what triggers it, I could eat the same thing every single day and one day my body would just pop! I could cope with the discomfort on the day but I'd be so sad that all my hard work down the gym would be hidden behind a big cloud of air in my tummy haha wind settlers also sounds like a good idea, perhaps might give them a trial run so I don't have any embarrassment down the aisle!

Red bush tea helps with my bloating

ObscuredbyFog · 30/01/2018 20:36

We cut out all white fluffy carbs and the instant absence of gas was astounding. Also try good gut bacteria.

Boopear · 30/01/2018 20:37

I’ve doing low FODMAP for bloating at the mo. I’m 4 weeks into the elimination phase - not easy but has really worked. All my bloating (and pain Angry) has gone. There are lots of books/info out there but also a great NHS app - it’s called FODMAP and can be used to scan barcodes to assess whether you can eat something. Elimination phase is no wheat, dairy or onions/garlic + various others but it does seem to work (and you can have wineSmile) Highly recommended by my NHS dietitian friend.

squareinch · 30/01/2018 20:37

You need to cut out sugar Sad

PoohBearsHole · 30/01/2018 20:41

What do you drink on a day to day basis? Literally give me a list of your regular abdvirregukar drinks inc alcohol!

Lolimax · 30/01/2018 20:41

I lost weight a couple of years ago. I found the bloating went when I gave up bread, potatoes and pasta and drink at least 2L water a day. Good luck!

NoChella · 30/01/2018 20:55

pooh I drink 3 litres of water a day. On a weekend maybe 3-4 glasses of prosecco and once a week a can of diet coke (on average, not every week)
I've tried to work out the triggers for the past 18 months / 2 years. I've done FODMAP too. Generally things are fine, I'd say I 'blow up' maybe once or twice every 4-6 weeks, and I genuinely look about 5 months pregnant and my tummy is rock hard and round. It will be just my luck that it will happen the morning of my wedding I bet! Thank you all for the diet suggestions but I'm after an immediate quick-fix just in case it happens on the day

Bellriver · 30/01/2018 21:01

have you tried Aquaban? They’ve always worked for me

babyccinoo · 30/01/2018 21:01

Fennel seeds boiled to make a tea.

PoohBearsHole · 30/01/2018 21:01

I was curious as I gave up Diet Coke for NY and my bloating has seriously decreased! (Was drinking 3-4 per day 😳)

Giving up wheat helped

Fizzy drinks don't big thennwd all know that 🙂

Ask your dr for an allergy test - I discovered I'm allergic to carrots which I'd never have thought but which lays havoc with me :)

BIWI · 30/01/2018 21:03

Keep following a low carb diet. And drink plenty of water. Keep drinking it - bloating is usually a sign of water retention, and although it seems counter intuitive, that means you should drink more water
