I want to lose just under a stone to get back to pre-children me but I don't have an overweight BMI. I'm 5'6" and weigh 9 1/2 stone.
I am relatively fit (I competitively horse ride and look after my horse) but don't do much other sport at the moment and my eating habits are just abysmal. I need someone to help me restructure my eating habits into healthy patterns and remind me of what is or isn't healthy.
I've known loads of friends who've done SW and have said it's a great way to lose weight and that you're not always hungry, which wouldn't work for me at all!
I just worry that I'd get negativity from a group if I turn up already at a weight that might be well below goal weight for others there.

I'm sure you can do it online?

Bunbunbunny · 30/01/2018 12:00

No one will care, honestly you’ve got a target you want to get to and it helps going to group. If you are on Facebook join the pinch of Noms group for SW ideas or look up the website

MrsPreston11 · 30/01/2018 12:03

No not at all.

As long as you want to stay within a healthy BMI range then go for it. The SW food plan is a really good way to retrain your eating habits and there are people of al sizes at my meeting. (In fact only 2 "really big" people, most of us are pretty normal and a few really rather slim)

Really good to help you find a healthier way of eating for the whole family.

Benefit of not having much to lose is it won't take you long to get to target and then you get free meetings!

Whatshallidonowpeople · 30/01/2018 12:04

So you think everyone at SW is a massive heifer and you'd are too skinny to Go?

Jaygee61 · 30/01/2018 12:08

You don't sound like you NEED to lose weight at all. Unless you are really tiny and birdlike in your frame 8.5 stone is a bit light for someone of your height.

Jaygee61 · 30/01/2018 12:10

Just concentrate on eating healthily, and see what happens. Don't waste your mo st on SW.

Jaygee61 · 30/01/2018 12:10

money, not most.

ThisLittleKitty · 30/01/2018 12:14

Tbh everyone I know that does slimming worlds is overweight. I don't the op said anything offensive.

GoldenBlue · 30/01/2018 12:35

We have quite a few target members in our SW class. Some are lighter than the OP. You would not be frowned upon for going at your weight. We have everyone from 15 stone over weight to slender young things that want to be 8 stone. All are welcome

abbijay · 30/01/2018 12:37

I want to get to about 8st9, 8st3 would put me in the underweight category so I'm still comfortably above that.
I'm certainly not saying all SW members are "heifers"! Most of my friends that have used it have been a little overweight but have always had a BMI of being overweight before they've started.

Trinity66 · 30/01/2018 12:41

Nah go, I joined nearly 4 weeks ago and was only very slightly overweight, I'm now in the healthy weight category (I only had to lose half a stone to get there) but I want to be at my target weight, everyone going there is a different size with different amounts to lose

BarbaraofSevillle · 30/01/2018 12:47

They might not let you join if you're not actually overweight. It's easy to follow the plan without going to classes though, although your weight loss might be slow as you don't have much to lose, although being active will probably help. I find as long as you restrict the obvious junk, it doesn't really matter if you have full fat dairy instead of low fat as long as you don't stuff yourself silly with piles of cheese.

It's just a calorie reduction/healthy eating plan simplified so not much dull counting/weighing/measruing.

So as much lean meat/fish/eggs, veg, fruit, pulses and plain fat free dairy as you like (I have 6% fat cottage cheese instead)
Small amount of wholemeal bread each day - one small roll or slice of normal bread or two slices from a small loaf
Small amount of milk or dairy (half pint milk or 30/40 g of cheese
No more than 2-300 calories a day of pretty much everything else (choc, crisps, alcohol, cakes and other processed/junk stuff).

Cook in spray oil and no fat unless synned - if you are used to cooking from scratch it's easy to just make your usual curries, stews, tray bakes etc with no/minimal oil.

shoeaddict83 · 30/01/2018 12:53

No one knows your weight anyway except the consultant and weigh person. I’m on the social team and we have to sign confidently agreements before we can weigh or take payment from people.
You can join as long as you have at least 7lb to lose that would not bring you below the lowest healthy bmi range.
They will take your starting weight, you can tell them a goal weight or amount you want to lose which we enter on the computer and it then would fire up an alert if this takes you to an underweight bmi so you’d just adjust your target.
I could Advocate all day long about sw as I think it’s fantastic and very easy to stick to as it’s so flexible, I’d definitely say give it a go!

shoeaddict83 · 30/01/2018 12:54

And the above info is incorrect-you most certainly do not have to be overweight to join. You can join in the healthy bmi range too you just cannot go UNDER the healthy bmi range

Jaygee61 · 30/01/2018 18:19

I find that a bit sick and disturbing actually, that they will accept people who are a healthy weight and slim, but who want to be thin. We are so fucked up about weight as a society.

NewYearNewMe18 · 30/01/2018 18:21

SW wont take you (a) if you have less than 7lb to lose (b) your target is an unhealthy BMI

MrTrebus · 30/01/2018 18:21
Biscuit
UpstartCrow · 30/01/2018 18:22

You ride competitively? See a sports coach instead. You need to keep your muscle mass and SW wont do that.

helpmysonwonteat · 30/01/2018 18:23

My friend joined at your weight, wanted to lose half a stone.
My target weight is your weight Grin and we are the same height (says more about me than you tho, I love wine and chocolate way too much!)

PipGirl404 · 30/01/2018 18:27

Slimming world only really works for significantly larger people.

Richie Howey on FB explains very well, albeit annoyingly, how people with a normal/slightly overweight BMI will not benefit from it.

The whole free food thing is a bit of a farce and a somewhat skewed view of food, but that's just my opinion.

Jaygee61 · 30/01/2018 18:31

SW wont take you (a) if you have less than 7lb to lose (b) your target is an unhealthy BMI

Being a healthy BMI does not mean you are a healthy weight for your particular body shape, natural build or frame size.

ColinFlower · 30/01/2018 18:31

I joined under similar circumstances and was made to feel stupid by some members.
I was half a stone over weight and found the diet plan didn’t really work for me tbh. I stayed the same weight.

EnglishRose13 · 30/01/2018 18:32

To be honest, people will probably just think you're a target (or near target) member and won't bat an eyelid.

octonaught · 30/01/2018 18:33

SW is a great way of re-educating your palate.
I think the free food is great as it actively makes you incorporate fruit, veg and salad into your diet

PipGirl404 · 30/01/2018 18:38

But chicken & vegetables have calories. As do fat free yoghurts & all food that is considered 'free'.

Pork has a ludicrous 300 calories per 100g but it's 'free'?

It makes little sense to me as losing weight is absolutely nothing more than less calories in than out.
